Anybody have a name or names of a good outfitter for brown bear with a bow ?
Cole Kramer I’ve not hunted with him but he’s a friend and as solid as they come. P & Y world record just killed by one of his hunters last year.
Talk to Shug. He just killed a beauty.....
Check with Stan Parkerson of Denali Hunts in Fairbanks
Friend and I both hunted with Jonah Stewart last June. Was a bait hunt. We both killed brown and black bears. Pm me if questions.
Lots of options and many depend on what you’d like in a brown bear hunt.
Bow/rifle? Coastal/mainland/SE AK? Spot and Stalk/Baited 30K+ vs 20K Spring/Fall
Lots of ways imo to waste a sizable chunk of money when going after brown bears, the best hunts aren’t cheap but I truly believe you get what you pay for. Most guys go several times for an archery brown bear so be mindful of that. A baited Hunt has much higher success rates and after doing both several times, they are far more exciting than glassing for 15 days straight. But getting close spot and stalk is very exciting too!
Stan Parkerson does not offer brown bear hunts, his are for Grizzly Bears.
Jonah Stewart imo offers the best baited brown bear hunts on the market today.
Several great guides for both Kodiak and the AK Peninsula but you’ll pay a premium for them.
Best of luck on your search!
Awesome picture and great info, Nick!
If only that bear was twice the size, he walked by us at about 15 yards.
I know Sam Fejes is good.
Good video of him calling a monster brown bear with a varmint call to one of those PSE guys.[when you watch the vid, know this; He adamantly instructed the hunter to hold perfectly still as they could easily get charged]
Something tells me ranging that bear multiple times at under 25 yards wasn't what Sam meant.
I remember when baited hunts first came out, $8,000 was the going rate. I thought about doing it then with the thought prices would increase after a couple years.
Thanks for all the info , greatly appreciated !!
I have been doing a bunch of research and am finding out that a lot of outfitters don't want to take bowhunters. The good ones that do are pretty much booked for 2019. I talked with Jay at BSC and he suggested their hunt on the north end of the peninsula but the likelihood of a 9 foot bear was less but had more bears. I may just end up booking a rifle hunt just to get one but not sure yet. Another thing ive found is some of these outfitters are horrible about returning messages.
These hunts are booked a couple or three years in advance. That’s just the way it is. If you want to hunt with one of the known bow specialists for 2021, I’d say you best book before most of the western hunting conventions have happened within the next month or so. I felt lucky to barely squeak into getting a 2020 hunt date, several months back.
I “squeeked in” for spring of 2020 as well a couple months ago with a great Outfitter on Kodiak. I had been waiting for quite some time and when the opportunity came up I jumped on it.
If I was going to do a baited archery hunt, I’d get on Jonah’s list.

I met an long time outfitter last summer that just started baited brown bear hunts and has openings in a new area. Lots of black bears as well. The price is a lot lower than the Kodiak/Peninsula hunts, but still not cheap or guaranteed.
I hunted and shot mine with Pete Barela Barela’s Alaskan Outfitters
[email protected] (907) 775-3833 It was a great hunt and Pete was great to hunt with, after I shot my Bear he could have finished it with his rifle but said he could see the arrow and it was bleeding good so he held off, but he did have to yell at it as it was coming straight at him from about 12 yards.
Just spent the last 4 days with Cole Kramer in Dallas. I know him well and have his contact. He booked my father for this April. Great guy!
I just booked with Cole, cant wait til Oct now.
