Top antelope hunts in Oregon???
Oregon

In your opinion what are the top three hunts in Oregon either bow or rifle? I am getting up there in points and hoping to draw in 2010 I'll have 14 points.
I am hoping to beat my first antelope 69 6/8 P&Y that I took this year in S. Dakota.
Tks Jason
W. Beatty Butte is a good one. My friend killed a beautiful buck there this past year. Tough conditions! It was 105 degrees!
Forgot to mention, it took him 13yrs to draw that tag!
With conditions that hot I'de be fighting the pronghorns for dibs on the waterhole.
Thank you for the replys. I had been applying for North Wagontire for the last 12 years, and figured I would have drawn it by now.
I was thinking Hart Mountain, Juniper, W Beatty Butte, but I have never set foot in any of those units.
ORARCHER:
Have you hunted Hart before?

Check your odds of drawing here, it is still the 2008 info though
Thank you for the link. It appears I will have 100% is whatever unit/weapon I apply for.
Now I just have to decide what unit will have the greatest trophy potential.
I don't know any of the area's mentioned above, but have seen 4 - 82"+ goats at a friends taxidermy shop. I know all 4 came from somewhere over by Burns.
Jay I have not hunted Hart Mt. but with a rifle I am certain you could connect with a great trophy.
Hart Mtn (bow tag available), Whitehorse No 1 (No bow tag and the lopes in the 2nd season are really spooky). Good luck.
my vote would go for juniper. i think that may be where MT. MAN may be talking about.
hey there jay i have spent my entire life speed goat hunting! East beautys butte is one of the best with a rifle for the avg of seeing the most nice animals. with as many points u have u could draw hrt mtn archery. the state record was shot there in 2002(archery) almost any unit will produce 80 inch class buck if u do your homework good luck and let me know what u decide to do

I think it is down between Hart and Beatys butte. It appears that 2010 I will have 100% drawing regardless.
I am just trying to decide which of those units I want to devote my attention towards.
If it was you which would you choose? If you dont mind me asking.
If you are going for an archery tag you should draw with 13pts. this year either tag.
Snag:
I have to apply for point saver in 2009, I dont have enough vacation time for the antelope tag and my trip to South Africa.
Jason
South Africa...come on get your priorities in order! LOL I am assuming you are going to hunt there..?
Jay,
I just looked at the point summeries for 2008 u should be able to draw east beautys rifle and heart mtn bow either one. Im not sure which one i would do i am leaning towards east beautys though there is alot less hunters and alot more land to cover. 2 years ago i was on heart with a deer tag and saw 3 people walk away with unfilled goat tags because of no water there was 14 water holes for 20 hunters! A 70 inch buck should be very easy with a rifle in east beautys.
Snag:
I know I know, antelope tag vs plains game...it's a toss up...LOL I'll be hunting in SA July 12-21st.

I was surprised by the amount of tags they give out for antelope in the East Beatys. Something like 102 tags, sure seems like alot of tags for that unit, but then again I have never been there so I believe you on your recommendations.
http://ronwold.googlepages.com/top20hardesttodrawhunts here is a drawing odds list for Oregon the top 20 hardest hunts. Looks like hart mtn is #2.
I would not waste your points on Hart Mountain without talking to hunters from last year first. The largest bucks taken during the rifle hunt were around 14" and not that massive. Lots of broken horned bucks. I know a guy who went on the rifle hunt with his cousin, these guys are serious hunters and they ended up disgusted and took a 14" buck, the largest they saw. I had heard this type of report from a blm bio in burns, but found it very hard to believe.
I hunted hart 3 years ago and killed a 75 inch buck,i spent alot of time doing my homework.I found a couple water holes off the beaten path. The next year I went with a friend and the drought severly affected the water holes and i saw 5 people kill bucks out of the same blind all were average bucks. As far as the hart tag I will never apply anywhere else the experience was unforgetable!!! hart hands down with the moisture we have been getting should be great by 2010..
