Tresspasser, Caught on Trail-Cam
Connecticut

After coming home with an SD card yesterday and putting it into my computer to see what I got.. I noticed I also have a picture of a guy walking down a path of my hunting area, then 2 minutes later walking back. In over 1 year of using 3 trailcams on my own private land, I never caught anyone on film. This land is posted, has an entrance gate, and would also be extremely tough to access. Around the gate itself and ALL borders is brush I had let grow in which reaches 6-8 feet in height and very thick. I don't know how or why he's walking through and don't know if there's a certain way to handle this. He's not someone who lives near my land... maybe he's looking for a lost dog? Maybe a poacher looking for a good spot? Should I go to the police with these photo's? Should I post them here, maybe one of you guy's knows him?
Bowman, Perhaps he is just looking for a lost dog or something, but I certainly would advise against posting here. This isn't a good place to identify your tresspasser. If it were my property, I'd keep my cams in place and monitor for any further activity by this individual. Maybe it was a one time visit, but if you see this guy messing around on you land, you can take the photos to you local authorities, and they can patrol the area. Just my thoughts on this.
Could of been some one just going for a walk even if its posted they think it is ok .I had people come walking by my stand at 630 in the morning walking there dog when I called to them fron my tree they s--t there pants said they didnt know any body was here never came back they lived near by .Keep up the cameras if you see them again I would put a sign on that path and there photo an tell them the police are next that should smartin them up .STEVE
Thanks for the info. I guess I will leave the camera in place to see if I catch him again. If I do see him on film again, I will certainly bring the pics to the police to see what they can do in identifying him and also post a sign as steve suggested right on the trail with his picture. These photos of him are on a small side trail that deer use and are off a main trail I use to drive in on and its about 200 yards from the entrance gate. I will also move another cam I have to the main trai to see if I can catch him. Funny thing is he was oblivious to the camera which was set up about 5 feet off the ground on a telephone pole. And he walked right past it, twice. The picture of this guy kinda startled me as well, he doesn't look all there... head facing straight head but the picture shows him looking to the side of the trail with his eyes only, while at the same time his left hand/fingers seem to be poking himself in the head. Kinda weird photo, but very clear. It didn't seem he knew a picture was being taken thats for sure. Thanks again.
I know it can be rather unsettling to get photos of individuals we had no clue were there. I've got a strut zone ridge out behind the house 400 yards where I always get pics of turkeys strutting, deer, bear and an occasional moose. I've had a camera there for at least 6-8 years and never even seen a hunter in the area. This May I got a photo of two turkey hunters at first light as my camera flash blinded them. They never bothered the camera but the spot was compromised so I took it out, but they now know someone else is hunting that area. I always save photos of hunters just in case something shows up missing.Could you tell if the intruder was a hunter? If I were a trespassing poacher I'd be dressed in camo. Also, most competent hunters would have seen a camera openly attached to a pole 5' off the ground, where JohnQ citizen wouldn't have a clue. I wouldn't be too concerned just yet if this was your first pic of him in a year.
scout24..He wasn't dressed in camo, and was not carrying anything but does have the look many hunters have. Not that we have a certain look, but you know, jeans t-shirt, trimmed beard... rugged build. I'm telling ya if I saw him walking down this trail on my private property in this area, I'd be startled, and scarred too, probably soil my pants. Only because no-one is ever out there...I don't know him..and this area is very thick and trail is well worn but narrow. Like I said camera was on pole, its actually a cl&p powerpole, and also thought it may be one of those guys...but at 6pm? They don't go out that late to check pole or vegetation...and he probably would have stopped and looked up and at the pole. This guy walked past it. This trail also leads to "the big-woods", with no marked trails or paths.. so I figure he walked up to that point, looked around and didn't know which way to go next(because there is no defined trail from that point leading to my hunting sites), and I have always from that point on go a different route so-as I don't establish a worn trail. I decided to take the 2 pictures to the police dept., and file a report on this/him. Maybe they can identify him.
Maybe it was the local game warden?
Isn't a game warden always in uniform? And only spend less than 2 minutes checking out whatever he was checking... ?
Maybe he was taking a pee!
I caught this guy 4 Days before the season (2006). He had a pole saw in his hands and he pruned a few limbs around a tree for his climber.
I found out who he was and told him that the land was Posted and no hunting without permission. He said he had verbal permission and he asked if I had a slip. I told him I was the owner and please respect the boundary's. Never seen again.....
I ran into a warden 15 yrs ago wearing coveralls in dark green only. It was almost dark about 1/3 mile to the nearest road. Long time ago.
I would say do not take anything for granted, just by nehunters post guys that are looking to hunt somewhere will have a few tricks up there sleeves because they are seasoned to the act. My partner and I have a property we have been hunting for years, this guys comes sneaking onto the property from the woods, mind you he comes in from military property that has no hunting with a gun, we whistle to the guys and he nonchalantly goes back to where he came from. The funny part is he checked to see if no one was around before he came out. We were in climbers so he disappered before we could get to him, told the warden and nothing happened. I would suggest that you bring the pic to the authorities and at least have them check into it. Private property is private property nothing honestly irritates me more that the landowner disrespect that goes on. Another propert we hunt gets intruded onall the time, more by partying kids, the landowner is never around because he travels a lot and is running his business, he put up a chain last year to keep people out and gave us keys, someone had the nerve to cut the chain off that protected to property, a couple of infrared cameras will go in by weeks end with another chain, there will be no hesitating bringing the picture to the police.
The last couple of year we have had so many people [hunters ] walking through are propertys I cant count them some with clinbers on there back .They say I didnt know you were hunting here we tell them you dont have permision and get out some are still hunting we ask them what they are doing they tell us I didnt know I was off there property when the propery they came from has no hunting ,some say I am looking for a deer they shot 2 miles away. The worst is some one how knows you are hunting a small property [2 acers] and trys to get the landowner to let them hunt there too, through some relative of theres I have one of them just last night . STEVE
nehunter, Did you blow that guy's head off with a cannon? LOL! His head just looks like a bloody stump. He does look like someone walking with a "purpose or mission" though.
Didn't want to get in trouble having someones face on the Internet.
That guy lives 1/4 mile down the road and hunts wherever he wants. The Farmer next door has kicked him out many times. I guess catching him red-handed keeps him away.
He is walking down a Deer run that runs thru an old orchard. I blew the picture up and he is carrying a wooden pole saw. I found some fresh cut trees further down the Deer run.
I totally understand not wanting to post his face. Good move actually. Some people huh? They think just because they can walk, they are allowed anywhere on the planet. Permission or not. Some guys are persistent even after getting kicked off a property. I've seen it. Anything short of a brick to the head won't work on some idiots. I know one property owner that let's me hunt his land. Last year he walked up on a guy in a treestand on his property during bow season. The guy had a high powered rifle, and was dropping his empty beer cans under his stand while he sat there drinking/poaching all day. The landowner was afraid to confront him so he called the cops. The guy was gone when they came, but his beer cans were still there. Nice huh? Scary stuff!
Why is the individual wearing gloves and a heavy jacket in August...I know many DEP Officers from around the state and that is not a DEP Officer.
Here is the picture of the trespasser I as well as the local police are attempting to identify. If anyone knows him please PM me, and I will at that point give the info to the police. The police indicated that him walking through like that did not seem random, and he wasn't lost. It also is NOT against the law to post his picture for purposes of identifying him like this. So if anyone know him please let me know. At this point I do not want to have him arrested, I just want him to know he was caught on camera and not welcome on this posted private property.
One photo shows him with gloves and long sleeves and the other shows him with no gloves and short sleeves. Very interesting!
He must be blind to not see your camera!
Sneakers? It looks like he was on just a walk... Not a scouting trip.
He dont look like he is scouting more like he is lost or hot .
First off 2 different photos from 2 different people,.. no biggie. and hopefully he is wasn't scouting just out for a walk or maybe lost? And yes walked right past the camera which is a moultrie d-40, kind of big, and exposed on a power company pole, within 1 foot of path.
Looks like he did see your camera and was about to cover his face. Thats why he averted his eyes and explains the "salute"
He looks pretty upset to me lost dog/kid or maybe a suicide! Watch for crows. Scotty.
He walked out of this area, but I will keep my eye's out for any crows, hawks or vultures. No word yet from the police. oh well I have gone out there a few times since I got this picture and am being extra cautious and aware.
He has sneakers on, probably just hiking and got nosey?
Hiker? That guy's hiking days are long gone.
I really wish I'm able just to find out who he is and why he was walking down this path? Maybe just nosey. Hope he's not some crazed madman looking for someone to go after. I hate to even think that, considering I go out there with my kids and young nephews. He doesn't look like he was carrying anything or have a weapon on him, but you still never know. Here's the picture leaving, 2 minutes after he walked in.
would you be so worried if he was a hot chick instead ?....your freaking out DONT shoot him even if comes within range,he might be somebody important
Look for a dark green area in your woods????
It does appear that he is clovering his face. Sneakers and a t-shirt is perfect for scouting without causing suspicion.
I would be very careful in the woods. Look what happenend to Ned Betty in "Deliverance".
yes.. I will cover my backside.
I am heading out there right now, And if I did see a hot looking girl out there alone I would think it even stranger. (her being alone in the woods like that) I would then feel she was definately there to hide something.. or cover-up someone.
I'd say by the look on his face that the deer ate his pot plants.
Look at his eyes. Nothing stable about them eyes......
I even asked the mail man for this area if he ever saw this guy, he never had. No hot girls out there... nothing. Got a new ladder stand up though.
If you see a hot chic it could be a trap, dont get caught in it! Run Bowman Run, dont look back, RUUUUNNN!
There is no doubt in my mind...He is checking his Marijuana plants...Its almost time to harvest his plants...Each 6' foot mature Marijuana plant has a estimated street value of approximately $1000.00 dollars.
I wouldn't give more than $995 tops.Joust joking. Be careful if your playing with somebodys income especially that kind of money things could turn very ugly and dangerous.
I recently had a intruder on my property. About a year ago my family bought 64 acres in harwinton. This past summer i put up two trail cameras. On a trip to check the cameras i found a larg pile of feed. Over the pile of feed was a trail camera. Keep in mind baiting is illegal in that area ( i understand it was hunting season yet). Trying not to cause any problems i removed the SD card from the camera and brought it home to try and identify the man. Went back next day to leave a note to please call me to clear up the matter and by the time i got there the camera was gone. Now i have numerous stands and cameras on the property. It's hard not to worry they will come up missing this season. I only wanted to let the guy know the land was puchased and he obviously does not have permisson to be there so stop trespassing. THe problem i think legally is we have no posted our borders yet.
james...I always carry my digital camera with me when I go to check my trail cams...if you had one you could have written a note, taken the sd card out of his camera, put it in yours...taken a pic of the note, then put the sd card back into his cam...that woulda sent him for a loop the next time he checked the camera. :)
James, he still should not be on the property obviously. People are unbelievable!
