September 15th... Early Doe season. I guess that counts?
Bob Anderson Zipper Extreme, 55@28... 60"... Trad Only carbon shaft with Woodsman broadhead. 20 yard shot, 30 yard recovery.
Last night in my dreams. 10 point with a 20" spread. Shot him at 15 yards and he ran 50 yards and folded up. Then I woke up. Hey, I can dream can't I. LOL. Good luck everyone,
At 7:30 a.m. this morning I doubled lunged a spike. Went about 40 yds. and fell over. My morning ended quick, but I have alot of seasion left. Good luck to all. I was by myself so I got no pics.
Hunted all day and did not see a single bear. I'll head back out on Monday.
I hunted in the rain this smorning and didn't see any shooter bucks. I am holding out for a 140 class buck. Raining to hard this evening so I watched the mtneers.
Passed a spike with one horn broke about half off. That was the only buck I saw. Thinking I should pay more attention to my name on here.
According to" ask a conservation officer "you do not have to check deer in in any order on the reg lic or RB tags , go figure .
Jack
I shot just under a beautiful 8 point this morning. Oh well. Saw four bucks and 4 does before noon - fun stuff!
Jack,
I read that in the regs. I have not followed up yet to make sure it means what I hope it means.
I never could understand when we have too many does in some areas the law was made to discourage a person that may want to try to take two bucks with the bow (during bow season) from taking a doe on the first tag.
Scott
Was out with my son today both morn. and eve. at 6:15 this eve. a doe came in to 20 yards and gave Jared a good look, and the arrow flew just high over the back of the animal. May not have come home with a deer but have some good memories. Be safe, Later Tom O.
Sarah also hunted all day in the rain and snow without seeing a bear. I am happy to report that she still wants to go hunting this week. I was concerned that she would not want to go as we did not see a deer all day as well.
I saw a bear and I saw my arrow go right into a pine branch one tree over from my stand and over the bears back.
I'll try again later this week
Didn't have a deer wander close enough yesterday. Only saw 3 in the morning and none in the evening. My son saw the big boy but he stayed out about 50 yards.
It's not a deer, but it's my first WV black bear
Congrats gobbler. Nice bear and nice picture.
Nice looking bear. how about telling us the story behing it.
that should be behind not behing. sorry
Not much food for anything to eat in Monroe county this year. Found a wild cherry tree that they had been feeding on regular, lots of purple dung with cherry pits in it, He came in about 6 , made a 15 yard shot, and he piled up in about 30 yds. It happened so quick I didn't get the shakes until it was all over.
JR what are you doing up so early? Nobody called for breakfest.
What is breakfast ready? LOL
Shot in Belmont co. Ohio on 10/15/09. Field dressed 185# Ruff score 141 1/4.
Jed Reed
That's a keeper! Congrats. Love the 'curve too.
A custom made Dick Robertson. Made for my Dad Tim Reed and passed down to me. Every deer I have killed has been with that bow.
Congrats jreed nice buck!
really nice buck! wish we had some up in northern wv where im hunting
Nice buck J Reed. He is a dandy.
Hey Epling here, I killed a small button buck on tuesday October 20th. I got it in the lungs and went under 50 yards so it made it pretty easy trackin. I have no pictures but congrats to all who have killed and good luck to everyone for the rest of the season!
Nice deer J Reed and a nice bear gobbler.
Jack
Tori and her first deer ever. It is a button buck and I think I yelled louder than she did when it went down in sight of the blind.
Congratulations Tori. My first one was a button buck and I remember it like it was yesterday. I'm sure you will too. Roger congratulations to you also. The kids first deer is better than any deer you will ever take.
Congrats Tori! You will always remember your first deer. I know I'll always remember my first bow kill. And the excitement never stops
Congrats Tori. That is awesome.
Congragulations! I love it when kids especially girls go hunting.
Man it's tough hunting this year as far as seeing deer numbers, this is just the second deer i've ahd under 40 yards .
Man it's tough hunting this year as far as seeing deer numbers, this is just the second deer i've ahd under 40 yards .
I have yet to see a deer on my land this hunting season.
Try to post again this morning :
Sorry about the bad picture.
Congrats on the buck Jack! If I might add, you are the epitomy of a true sportsman and display every ideal of being a great conservationist! To go after one with trad equipment only isnt chanllenging enough for you, but you have to take it one step further. I mean to have your contacts reversed to give the deer every chance you can is just unheard of. YOU THE MAN! :)
Congratulations Jack. That there is gonna be some good eatin'.
Well Chris I found out that I had the wrong contact in, the ones that are for my right eye are for reading and left eye for seeing at a distance . I have discarded all of the close up contacts and put a long distance one in my left eye and see below for what happened this morning :)
The gods smiled on me again :)
This morning was a beautiful warm morning here in Appalachia with all the fall colors . About 8 o'clock I see a buck walking a bench above me , he turns and decides to come walk around the logging road I'm set up below . At first I wasn't sure I wanted to shoot him this early in the season , but glad I did after looking him over. Not a monster by any standards but a nice kill here in this area . I hit him almost where I was looking ,but he ran uphill 50 yards and stumbled back to my stand and gave up the ghost. I used a KME sharpener and couldn't be happier . Shot him with a Schafer Silvertip 60" 50@27" , carbon express 90's and a 2 blade magnus head .
No comments on the smurf hat because it was made by George Colemans wife and she is a sweetheart .
Again Jack, congrats another buck!
Nice buck Jack! I also like the "hottie" hat. Have one myself.
Saw 9 deer Saturday (October 24th). Had out some Doe-N-Heat lure and had 4 bucks cruise through. Shot the biggest one, this decent 7 point at 20 yards.
Jack & Ben congrats, great bucks!
Nice Bucks Ben and Jack.
Love the curve Jack!!!!
Here's a buck the 2010 TBSWV Pres. Bobby Graham put on the ground yesterday evening. I was set up close and got to see him hammer it, which was really cool! Drove a 4-blade Magnus Stinger down through the lungs and straight through the heart, complete pass through with a 40# recurve. Stevie Wonder could have followed the blood trail!
Had a buck come through around 9:00 am this morning. He was cruising looking for some company I guess. He was standing about five feet from where the three point I took a week ago was standing when I killed it. He is not a wall hanger but a good one in my opinion.
Great Buck Chris, not to shabby for 70yrds. behind the house.....
I love these suburban deer , nice deer Chris .
Jack
Good buck Chris, If you don't want the horns I can use them to rattle with.
Yes Jack the suburban deer are often overlooked. But if you can find the isolated woodlots that are funnels, they can be quite productive. And TomO, I think it is closer to 100 Yds from the house.lol. But hey, it is all up hill!
Nice buck Jack and all of you guys. I was holding out for a 140 class deer but might have to shoot a spike here in Pendleton county. LOL
Jr if I hold out for a 140 class deer I will starve , just like you would in Pendelton Co, :)
In Pendleton county terms, the 140 class buck JR is waiting on means a buck with 1 point on one side plus a 4 inch spread plus 0 [broken off on the otherside] points. 1+4+0=140= JR's trophy buck. Not Pope and Young, but Hatfield and McCoy. Jack, does that explain JR's way of thinking?
Here is the buck i took in Logan County Last week. Do not mind to end my season at all with this deer. Heading to Ohio for a ten day trip Friday.
Wow! Congratulations. I agree with George. That is a pig and a half. That will be a hard one to top in Ohio. Good luck.
Great Buck Congragulations! Logan County and Ohio What do they have in common to help produce great deer? Maybe a one buck limit.
That is a great great one
GOBBLER: couldn't agree with you more
Wow. How do I go about getting the pic of my baby deer off of here. I am ashamed to have it on the same thread as that moose. Congrats on great buck!
My what a nice deer , congrats .
Jack
Nice deer and what gobbler says. Be nice if we had that statewide. Where is 1buckurout
He is not quite the deer that DH1123 killed but I got the same feeling when he came in with his ears laid back ready to fight. 20 yrd. shot 75 yrd recovery. at 6:30 this morning. DH1123 that is a great Buck. Congrats. Later Tom O.
Congrats on the buck TomO. Now kill your typical biggun!
Yeah I heard the phone ring this morning and it was Tom saying he had shot one , to say he was excited was an understatement , congrats .
Jack
Those are some great looking deer fellas, congrats to all.
Thank you to Al for posting my ugly mug up, I pounded dust last year, and I ain't ever been to picky with a brown coat spending too much time under my stand to not try a shot either.
I had to work all night last night up at White Sulphur Springs, back into Pipestem and on over into Princeton. I don't know how I didn't hit one, because every deer in the state was out last night in 3 counties. I passed bucks trotting and sniffing, a couple of close calls with does running like crazy, it's almost that time.
Good luck to everyone, wear your harness and be safe.
I'm here. Preach'n to the choir again Dr. J.R.? lol lol
Congratulations everyone.
(aka: 1buckurout)
had a stud chasing behind my shop at school,, hard to teach drafting with that going on behind 6foot by 25 foot windows and even harder to explain to 6th graders what hes doing lol,,,
Nice buck Tom. Nice buck guys.
Remember some of us don't have the big money you guys who preach "the one buck and your out" sermon and go to other states and hunt. How about lets make it two bucks and your out or some antler restrictions??? Better yet - lets limit the numer of non-resident hunters!
I enjoy hunting and like the chance to kill two bucks a year without have to go to another state and hunt. That is why I saved and bought the land I have now. Now I will get off of my soap box! Sorry.
Congrats to all those who have connected so far!
All I'm saying is that if you look where 95% of where the big bucks are coming from today is where they have a 1 buck limit. Bow or gun. It takes away the excuse of shooting a small buck then "Trophy" hunting, where 90% of times another small buck is killed. I own land in WV too, and with the exception of once every 3-4 years going out of state to hunt whitetails WV is the only place I hunt whitetails.
I understand your thoughts Gobbler but I do not agree. PA has had a one deer and your finish forever and they did not start seeing bigger bucks until they went to antler restrictions. I think antler restrictions are the way to go. I just worked hard to buy my land and put alot of work into it and kill some nice bucks off of it using some self-control not killing the small ones. I like that I can hunt two bucks a year on my own land. The WVBA worked pretty darn hard to get the extra tag I hate to see it taken away because we will never get it back. Lets do a one buck and your out for out-of-state hunters. I am sorry again wrong thread to be debating this.
JayD
If you are saying one buck for out of state hunters and thats for the year I can agree with that. Being a former resident could live with that. With the economy being what it is the state can use the additional money that's brought in by out of state hunters.Antler restrictions would help!
Not the place I know, but
Congrats to all the awesome bucks the palmation on DHs is amazing!
Antler restrictions would definately help. I agree nonresidents should be limited to one buck, but I doubt the DNR would ever go for that. Too much of a cash cow for them. They could up the nonresident license 20.00 and make up for that. They would hear some complaning but I guess they are used to that. I had to pay almost 400.00 for my wyoming deer tag, and never pulled the trigger.
Hey guys, nothing personal but please get on another thread and debate this again.
Oh come on, it's more fun to hijack threads to help advance a personal agenda. Besides, it wasn't brought up until that stud from Logan county appeared. And I was talking about the deer, not the hunter. But you're right I'll try to behave.
Today is the first day of Fox season . I had just got down out of my stand on another deerless morning , while packing up my gear I saw a fox cross the ridge about 70 yards out . I licked the back of my hand and started squeaking like a mouse , I continued this on and off for about 5-10 minutes . I saw a flash of red go behind a tree , I stood and drew my bow in one fluid motion . This gal was trotting towars me at 14 yards when I released an arrow and watched her run over the hill.
Great bowkill! I haven't seen a red fox on my place since the coyotes moved in a few years ago.
I would be very excited to see a fox but I'm not sure it would make me lick the back of my hand and start squeaking like a mouse. : )
Nice job Jack. Great picture too.
Good job Jack!!!
Red Fox = nice trophy!
Congrats Jack. You are making it tough on this compound guy to keep up with ya! Bert could probably make that into one heck of a back quiver.
Congrats Jack! Man you are a bowhuntin killin machine this year.
Hey Aharon Davis,
That is an incredible buck....the mass is amazing. What did he end up scoring? Give me a call with the details.
Hey Aharon,
My new # is 304-433-1532
Cool Jack.Nice trophy.Good shot also
My brother scores in Wyoming Co.
Hey Jeff.. Is that the world famous "Mutt" ? If so, send him my congrats. He take it on the lease where Aaron & I have been hanging out?
No Horn Hunter, He got it around Saulsville. It has 20 inch inside spread. It will gross around 160.
sorry for the extra pic i was just wondering if anyone could guess the age of this deer
Three and half. If you have one of him from the side, it could be a little easier to tell from his body structure.
17 yards slick tricked em
Not sure how old he is but he will be a dandy in a couple years.
Hey wv24874..check your private message..hit me back
Dang guys no one take any does? The big old logger heads ( no disrespect ) are the sharpest animal in the woods and worthy of trophy statue IMO. One of my buddies Pat Reed took this one at my place a week or so ago . This was his first recurve harvest .
Nice one Pat !!! Jack is correct if you can beat her sences you are a better hunter for it.
That deer appears to be at least 3.5, maybe more. I've never seen a 2.5 year old with that many stickers
Jack
You are correct the toughest hunt I ever had was an old doe. Ended up taking her with a rifle the last week of doe season. I never could get her in dow range but had a 15yrd shot with a rifle. She will always be a trophy in my mind though. The second toughest taken was also a doe. I hunted a spruce ridge with only 1 oak tree on it. That year it was loaded with acorns and she would use her hooves to fend off all commers including a nice 9 point buck. I ended up taking her on Nov. 2, 1994 and was happy to do so. To take a mature doe now that's hunting. No luck involved there no hormones to make it easy.
Awesome buck, Cool double throat patch
I got this bruiser 11/11/09 22 3/4 spread GOTTA LOVE WYOMING CO. WEST VIRGINIA
Took this 8 pointer yesterday around 5 PM. Sorry for the pic - my wife had to work tonight and the camera is in her car with the better pics - took this pic with my phone.
I was wondering when you guys down south was going to put those big ole boys on here ,
Nice deer .
Jack
Man are you guys killing some great bucks this year. Those are some dandies! I hunted the last three days and have been seeing a lot of bucks. This little guy was the first to give me a shot and I didn't look a gift horse in the mouth. A little meat for the freezer. Congrats to the rest of you guys.
Aaron
Here's a slickhead from Shady Springs
Hey guys – I killed my first buck with a bow 11-7-09. At 3 pm a small 6 came in and was going to let him have it but he ran off. An hour later this 8 along with the 6 came back with a little doe. The doe and the 6 came in close enough but the 8 stayed back a while so I waited. Tom O is the only one that has seen me shoot so he may be the only one to really understand the rest of the story but I’ll tell the rest of you anyway.
I shoot a compound with a draw lock. I put a mouth piece on the end to steady the bow for the shot and help me aim. If I bite down on the mouth piece my peep and sight don’t line up so I have to open my mouth slightly to line things up.
I’m sitting there with my mouth open…..doe and 6 inside of 20 in front of me waiting on the 8 to emerge….and I start to drool. It was running down my chin but I wasn’t about to move.
Now….was I drooling because my mouth was open or because the 8 was coming to a broad side shot inside of 20 yards?
Randy Benear
Randy, that is just awesome. Congratulations.
Randy congrats on your first buck :)
Great Deer Randy, I know how hard you practice and hunt every year and to have just one opportunity... well I just want to say congrats to you and the people you have helping you fullfill this dream. I can't wait to see the mount at the hunt show in the Hunter Ed. Booth. Later Tom O.
Yesterday evening, Bobby Graham and the Magnus Stinger struck again with a perfect shot from his Titan longbow, dropping this fat slickhead in less than 40 yards from his stand.

Finally killed a deer w/ my DAKOTA Pro Hunter longbow. I don't know what it is w/ me & button bucks, but this young'n will eat great. This was my first ever longbow kill, & I could'nt be happier.
Killed this guy 11/20/09. Scored 146 2/8ths
Killed this guy 11/20/09. Scored 146 2/8ths McDowell County
Once again, congratulations to everyone who has taken one this year. I was blessed to get a couple of this year, last year I couldn't even buy a look at a deer.
Randy, you sir are a true inspiration, congratulations on your buck, it is well deserved.
Thanks to my great friend Al Leftwich for posting the pics, he usually always has a camera, I usually have everything else under the sun in a bag somewhere.

Thanks Bob!
Outbackarcher, with some wicker you could make a nice chair out of that rack! What a hoss!
here is a side view of the 13pt does it help on how old he is? or what he might score
here is what showed up instead of the 13pt but i just couldn't pass it up. just hope noone gets the other buck.
Man, I'm diggin' all the traditional bows I'm seeing on here. If you guys haven't checked out the Kanawha Valley Traditional Archer's web site then go to www.kv-ta.net
Justin, I think I am gonna start posing with my stick bow. Even if I kill with my wheels, I think it looks better to pose with it with a stick bow. LOL.
I would say he's a 133" 3 1/2 year old
The good lord was looking out for me Nov.28,2009 check out my monster.
Here is another pic. There's nothing like Wyoming county. 13 scoreable points
Awesome buck Jarrod. With this one grossing close to 160 it might create a little family competition.
Congrats on an great buck!!
My son finally connected in Wyoming County.
Wow is all I can say, congrats guys on those nice bucks.
Jack
Looks like Wyoming Co is where its at this year. Nice buck.
My brother's 11/20/09 bow kill, Lincoln Co.
Nice deer guys, I need to find someplace in Wyoming County to hunt! Went to Ohio this year and got a decent 8, but saw some real bruisers, but couldn't get a slam dunk shot on them. This guy was taken on the last morning I had to hunt that week.
