Hello. I have an opportunity to re-locate to the Vancouver area. I am wondering if there is public lands available within and hours driving time for hunting there specifically for big game? Also what species of big game are available? And what is the residency requirement?

Hello, There is deer hunting up towards Hope B.C. These are blacktail deer.If your moving to the country, you will have to check with the Gov,t to get a hunters number. You can buy a tag as a resident and go hunting for blacktail in a lot of areas. I don't think there is any pig hunting in the lower mainland, San Dan.

Stix you need to be a resident of BC, I believe for 1 year and then apply for a hunter number after which you can aply for " limited entry hunts " . There is ample public land hunting within 3 hours and moe of Van. for open season mule and whitetail deer bear and game birds. Further afield you can hunt elk, moose sheep and turkey in an open season.
