As I remember, almost all D zones are 3rd Sat in August for 23 consecutive days (4 weekends) and the Coastal A zone is the 2nd Saturday in July for 23 consecutive days also. There are some other zones and area specific archery tags with different dates....What area (zone) are you interested in bow hunting?

All the D zones are first Saturday of Sept then close 23 days later.
So in 2013 the bow season will be Sept 7 through the 29th.
General season is second saturday of Oct so the season will be from Oct 12 forward 23 days.
With a D13 tag, you can hunt D11, D13, and D15 with a bow during archery season and any weapon during the general season.
But with an AO tag, you can hunt any A, B, or D zones during the archery and general seasons with a bow only.
Rereading your post, I dont think you're asking for D13, just CA in general. The earliest is the A zone which opens mid July.
Follow the attached link and you'll see the PDF for the big game book at the top. DL it and scroll down to page 26 and it lists all the date for 2012. They'll be different for 2013 by 0 to 7 days, but you'll get the idea.
Idulwildarcher, whered you get your info? D zone archery opening on sept 7? Its never been that late. It usually as joe said the third or fourth weekend in august. Archery Opener in d zones has never been that late. Ive been told archery season opens august 13th or 24th.
So Cal D zones are different then the ones farther north. I was assuming he was talking about unit D13, but he was actually talking about 2013.
I have no bead on D3-11. My source who is a DFG Warden who has no say in season allotment said it'll be either the 7th or Aug 31 down here.
Opening archery deer to open first is A zone and that is always on the second Sat of July..
