The Pope and Young Club is currently looking for bowhunters in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire who would be interested in becoming an official measurer for the Pope and Young Club.

If you have the desire to contribute to the Pope and Young Club and its Records Program in this volunteer capacity, now would be a good time to initiate that process by completing a P&Y Measurer Application.

Being an official measurer for the Pope and Young Club is a great way to support and serve bowhunting, helping perpetuate the Pope and Young Club’s goals of promoting bowhunting, promoting fair chase and ethical hunting, and honoring these great animals. It’s a volunteer passion, and more. It’s a great way to get more involved in the Pope and Young Club. It can become a lifelong hobby. And, it is often noted by fellow P&Y Measurers that it provides the opportunity to meet many fellow bowhunters and to hone one’s own hunting skills and field judging simply by having a fine-tuned understanding of the scoring system.

The Pope and Young Club, in partnership with the Boone and Crockett Club, uses the B&C scoring system for bowhunting records. This system is the “gold standard” for scientifically recording North American big game animals. The value, credibility and success of our program are derived from its enduring standards, its historic relevancy and its time-honored consistency.

The first step would be join the Pope and Young Club as a member, if you are not already. You can join online or download an application to mail in:

www.pope-young.org/join.asp

Next, if you have the desire, commitment and time to serve as a P&Y Official Measurer, please complete and submit a measurer application:

www.pope-young.org/pdfs/measurer_application.pdf

Completed applications should be sent:

a.) Scanned and emailed to [email protected]

b.) Mailed to: Pope and Young Club, Box 548, Chatfield, MN 55923

c.) Faxed to 507-867-4144

One of our measurer training workshops will be held in July this summer, in the Albany, New York area. Thus, it would be beneficial to get your application in as soon as possible.

Applications will be reviewed, references contacted, and selected individuals invited to a training workshop in the near future. Successful completion of the three-day training workshop is the next step in the process of being appointed as a P&Y Official Measurer. The intense, hands-on workshop covers the scoring procedures for ALL North American big game species. There is no cost for the training workshop, itself (limited to 20 individuals), other than the individual’s own travel, food, and lodging.

If you have the time and interest, consider being a part of the special corps of volunteers that are the backbone of the P&Y Records Program.

Measurers still needed. The class will be in Albany, NY from July 19th to the 21st. It is rare they have a class in the East so take advantage of the close proximity.

Call Glenn Hisey at P&Y Club 507.867.4144 to discuss.
