In terms of gear for this backpack style hunt, anything that I may not be thinking about that could be a valuable piece to a pack?

Yea I agree with the spotting scope, maybe a range finder, and make sure you carry more water than you think you will need. I found out the first time we bowhunted the Ruby's.

I heard the rubys are loaded with water. Hope to camp next to a good source and stick it out for 5-6 days up high bivy.

Not so... This is a dry year and very little snow and water up high. Do your homework... Ed F

Bring some game sacks to hang your meat in, depending on how long you are out there. Lots of lions in the Ruby's.

Depending on the weather- the thunderstorms can get pretty hairy up there.
