It helps to be with a group that has been to the AAP before especially if you are not in a group. Groups that have a vehicle that can seat 5-6 hunters get 1st choice on spots. If you are a loner you get the scraps and have to find a group to tag along with.

They are super strict on lighters, cameras etc. in the munitions area. $500.00 fine and a quick trip to the front gate. Not even any spent brass in your truck!

Hominy, same week as mosshead and troutguide. I have a good deer creek spot where we went 3 for 3 two years ago(2 does and a small 8). All 3 of us missed one too. if someone wants to trade secrets....lol. Have hunted Hominy and Boggy as well, without as much success.

I talked to the contact for my hunt and realized I had to try to hitch a ride with some random group and get out wherever they parked the truck with not much decision where I got to hunt. Also found out you were not able to walk from camp which would of been good for where I was wanting to go. Was on cloud 9 this morning after 6 years of putting in then realized I was walking in with 5 other guys possibly crashing through the area I am hunting.Kinda getting bummed! Anybody have a positive outlook on this and how it works with other hunters and getting your own spot?

Moss dont sweat it. Get there early and start talking to people and find a group you feel okay with or better yet surf around the net and find someone to hook up with and make plans before you go. It is always a little bit of a crap shoot as to where you will end up and who will be in the area, but you can still make the best of it. The first year I went I hunted with one other friend and we got to drive alone and park exactly where we wanted. The next yea I went back on a quality pass and hooked up with a couple guys online and we did the same thing. Just be flexible and try to make alternate location plans. Deer are everywhere just some areas make the hunting easier. Do not get bummed no mater what, it is a really unique experience and we are going the first week things start getting good. I hunted earlier 13-15 or so a few years back and they said the bucks wouldn't get killed till the end of October, look at the numbers killed each week and you will see the trend. We should have first dibs on the good bucks as they start to rut. They are strict there so read the rules twice and keep your ears open when they talk and you will have a blast. Hell we missed a turn and got escorted back to camp and frisked, we still had fun.

If you are not on a vehicle, they will work with you to get you with a group that is going where you want to go. I have seen on a couple of occasions where a single person got to drive in if there was no one in an area close to where they wanted to park. they just want to limit vehicle traffic on the base.

They used to allow walking from camp but people that walked were neglecting to check in at night so they cut it.

Don't get bummed. We have had folks hitch a ride with us and it worked out great. Most people are really friendly. If you have a king/extended cab pickup volunteer to drive no matter what. YOu might be the one picking up the random group.

Moss you will get a few hours after the briefing and assignment of groups to scout and put up your stand or blind on Thurs.

Dont spend a lot of time hiking off of the main roads. The deer will walk right down them at times. Deer have been killed by guys sitting on top of the bunkers.

Be ready to sit all day in your stand. No deer have ever been killed in camp. Don't think you are are going to stalk up on these deer. They are as wild as they come. Guys start tromping around and blow it for other guys.

I have been several times, but no luck this year.

Hunt close to the roads. The deer us them all day and stay in stand all day if you can. Seen most big boys from 1pm-4pm. Good luck to all who drew.

Got Boggy this time will be there on Oct. 18-21. Have not been on Boggy since 03 or 04. Missed a giant there but had a blast on that hunt. He was one of the 5 P&Y I had seen on that hunt. Been on deer creek several times over the years and have been on Hominy once also since 1997. Deer Creek is a really good area just like everyone else said do your scouting and listen to the white caps and talk to Bill and the other guys who work there. Good luck gentleman and ladies on the your hunts.

Drew Deer Creek on Nov 8 - 10. Never hunted that area? My buddy has been injured and can't go - so I'll be a loaner. Any tips on the Deer Creek area appreciated! Missed a 140 class last time there; and had two other P&Youngers almost within range, hunting Bear Trap. Met a real nice white hat guy that let me use his deer stand! 6 inches higher and I would have weighed in a whopper! Looking forward to another great experience! Good luck to all!
