4PT RESTRICTION REMOVED FOR 6 COUNTIES
Missouri
Contributors to this thread:
CWD was found in north Missouri and the counties of Macon, Adair, Sullivan, Linn, Randolf, Chariton no longer have a antler point restriction on bucks. The antler point restriction was removed prior to the 2012 season. Now several other north Missouri counties have gone from unlimited doe tags to two. Add in the blue tongue die off last year with lots of CRP land being lost looks like the the last 10 years or so prior to 2012 will be remembered as the glory days.
The APR needs to be removed from every county. What a joke, the state dictating what animal you choose to fill your tag with. As far as CWD they know exactly where it is coming from and still choose to do so little about it that it is also a laughing matter. The APR make me so mad. They claim that the majority of hunters wanted this regulation. Well if that is the case then let the majority choose to do this on there own, in the end you will get very similar results without ruining folks hunting experience by dictating what animal one can harvest. But it goes much deeper than this, it is about dollars. Case in point, QDM. Just do a little research on who is paying the salary for some of the QDM employees' and see if it does not throw up a red flag. You and I, the tax payers, are footing the bill to have QDM's agenda shoved off on us. This is scary.
Did I call it or what? Bad news is we have not seen the bottom yet. One way we can speed up the recovery is spread the word....many casual hunters have no idea what is going on.

Forgot...why the hell was the antlerless only season not cancelled if they saw it coming.
Seriously, if someone really needs that season on top of the bow/gun/alternative season to still kill a doe for the freezer....oh wait MDC says it's a opportunity for landowners to manage their herds on a local level...what herd?
your right we shouldn't have to be told. although mo hunters have killed twice as many bucks as does for the past three years. that will not make for a balanced herd. the hunters are to blame for that
Predator Where did you get that information?
I think the APR has helped re establish a age structure that helps the deer heard and stronger older animals doing the breeding is almost always best. I remember seeing little scrawny animals years back and thought why are they that way her and across the river 20 miles from me in Illinois they were big stronger healthier bucks and does. We enjoy those deer now. I agree you should have a right to kill what you like but what about the health of the herd. Just my .02 cents worth. The limitless slaughter of does is now being felt and we are now blaming it on disease open your eyes you cant kill six or seven a year and expect the herd to grow and thrive. It hunters killing them and MDC horring out the deer for financial gain. Good day to all!!
I agree take out APR and move gun season to December first. maybe someday MDC will do what is best for our deer herds and forget about the dollar
Moving the season won't do much if you don't have deer. They need to put a restriction on the doe tags and cut back on the days allowed to hunt antlerless deer during rifle season. They do that and you'll have more button bucks making it. They can grow big then.
we did not have any doe hunts here in se mo, or point restrictions but people down here still don't believe in shooting does for meat, instead they kill the spike or fork. im afraid it will catch up and bite us down the road
It's not that we don't or won't have any deer, it's that we want better deer. 2013 results were 252,574 total for Missouri with 53.8% of the kill being made up of antlered bucks and button bucks. Illinois' kill was 180,811 total with 56% bucks and Iowa's was 99,400 total with 52% made up of bucks. I think our buck to doe harvest percentage is right inline with the big boys but do we really have that many more deer than those states? I would agree that we need to move the rifle season out of the rut. That would give bucks a better chance to reach maturity. But I also would keep the 4 point restriction, I think it's been a good thing. It has finally started to change the old ways of thinking.
We as hunters can't fully blame the Conservation Department for is happening to the deer herd. We knew we were looking at the worst EHD outbreak in modern history and we still had near record harvest in 2012. Now here we are at the end of the 2013 season and everyone is wondering what happen to all the deer. We need to realize that just because we have 6 or 8 tags in our pockets, that doesn't mean we have to fill them all. I'm all for less government but I'm not sure we all can be trusted to make the right decisions for our deer herd. I know there's a lot of experts out there but they all didn't graduate at the top of the class.
Something else to consider. Several deer processing shops are being paid to process deer free to the hunter if the deer are donated to "share the harvest'. I know several folks who routinely fill as many tags as possible and dispose of em this way. Share the harvest is a good thing, but not at the expense of our deer herd.
If the majority of hunters want APR's then let them do it voluntarily. You would get the same results in the end although it might take a few more years. Don't dictate to folks what is and what is not a successful hunt by getting into a measuring contest of calcium deposits on a animals head.
I personally manage my 350 acres pretty close. I will not shoot a deer under the age of 5. I do not kill button bucks or any fawns(6 month old deer). this past year I hade a good herd of young bucks. ended up killing a 127" five year old during gun season with my bow. Since gun season I have found 11 dead bucks and the neighbor found four. my other neighbor is a gardener and hates deer he said he was shooting them through the guts to keep them out of his strawberries. warden can't do nothing.so its more important to convince your neighbors than conservation. I strongly wish they would move gun season to December 1, it would also help keep out of state hunters out.
Just received a survey fom Mo Conservation. Anyone filled one out yet? Now is the time to make your voice heard.
Predator does your property adjoin state owned property? Just wondering why such hatred toward out of state hunters. They kill such a small percentage of deer in Mo. it shouldn't matter.

Had a pleasant experience with a couple Kansas hunters during firearms deer season. My son killed a nice buck way back in the sticks and those guys took time out from their hunt to help drag his deer to our boat on the river. One of the mens name is Lester. Didn't catch the other name. Thanks again guys.
I got the survey, sent it in. Hopefully we will see some changes especially moving the rifle season back.
