Turkey/ Pheasant in central CA (Kern)?

Hey Guys, My GF and I are new to bow hunting, and wanting to hit Pheasant/ Turkey season. We live in Bakersfield CA, and looking for a place to find pheasant within 2 hours from us? Any input on places, equipment, techniques... all appreciated. As we have only shot paper up till this point. Im running a Mathews Creed 65#, shes got a Bowtech 45#. Thanks!
