Was blessed by the good lord above on opening morning to get a shot at this guy with my GW Flanagan longbow!
Yea... that's good stuff, Shiloh! Let me guess... 22-3/8" wide? :)
WOW! Congrats Medicine Man! Awesome buck and with trad gear no less. Nice pictures as well. Gotta love big main-frame 8 pts. Give us details about your hunt? Bow and arrow set-up, shot distance, recovery, what part of the state, etc.
wow thats an awesome buck medicineman!
Bowme2- That is an excellent guess my friend! ;)
Well, I was shooting a GW Flanagan single piece longbow. Started out the season shooting my target bow set up, but after a hunt in Texas a week or so back I decided to amp up my hunting rig a lil bit so I pulled out my 56pounder (target rig is 46). I was using carbon express thunderstorm arrows with a 145gr Magnus 2 blade broad head with 65 additional grains added to the back of my insert to get just a little extra umpth. I was dead set on not taking any shots over 20 yards as I just didn't feel as comfortable with the heavy bow as I did my target bow mainly because I had only got to shoot it for a little over a week prior to season and I'm not used to heavier bows at all. Anyhow, I had another buck toying with me all morning that was a definite shooter in my books and I actually passed up a couple shots around the 20yard mark or so hoping he would slip in closer, but it never happened. He actually spooked and left out and came back 3 different times before finally leaving for good. No wind that morning really had all the deer on high alert. Ten minutes later, the eight point strolled in and wouldn't ya know it, he stayed at about 25 to 27 yards. He to kept acting a little spooky so it had me on edge the whole time after my ordeal with the other buck. Finally, he circled in a little closer and by that point my nerves were past shot and I gave up on a closer shot. Before I knew it the buck was at about 22 to 23 yards and I was at full draw and letting an arrow fly. All I honestly remember is staring a hole behind his shoulder and seeing my arrow bury up in that spot. I guess my instincts just kicked into overdrive as I don't really recall ever drawing my bow back. Anyhow I felt the shot was good as he was heading out and lost sight of him in the timber about 50 or 60 yards out. He left a great trail and only ended up going about 65 yards or so. It was by far one of the most memorable mornings I've been blessed to have in the deer woods. He was actually the first buck I've taken with a longbow and the first buck I've ever taken with a 20"+ inside spread. The good Lord must have known what he was doing when the other buck toyed with my mind over and over again before this guy came strolling through. Truly just blessed beyond belief and can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds.
Congrats, awesome deer. The good Lord will bless you when we least expect.
Congratulations on a great buck with your longbow Shiloh!
-Matt and Cheryl
Nothing close to Shiloh's beauty but I took this 8 pt opening day. Arrowed him at 20 yds and gathered him up 50 yds later. Good Luck, everyone! Matt
Very nice medicine man! Congrats! What county did you take that bad boy in?
Nice bucks Matt and Shilo
Nice bucks, hope we see more soon.
First recurve deer 10/11 am. Seven points, 120# field dressed. Got him with my Martin Hunter and 125gr magnus two blade on beeman mfx classic shaft. He ran into some tall weeds (taller than me, and i'm 6'1) where I lost the blood trail. Drove down to get my buddy and we looked and looked and couldn't find anything. Feeling disappointed I decided to check out one more spot and walked up on him in the weeds. Nothing changes your mood like seeing that white belly laying in the brush!
grats on your first recurve deer squirrelsticker1.
Congrats it's tough with a recurve
Well not the big boys that others have posted but i got two does saturday, one at 7:40 am and another at 6:50 pm. was a warm weekend but several deer were seen.
Doe #1
Doe #2 She looks smaller in the pic but they were within 3 pounds of each other, 85 and 82 pounds respectively.
Heres my monster Thunderchicken. 11 1/4 inch beard 19 1/2 lbs 1 inch spurs.
Awesome buck MedicineMan. Nice kills everyone. I got lucky and thumped this one yesterday morning.
Thats a sweet buck Ghost.
Grayghost,
Awesome buck! Looks like an old deer. Any idea on his age? Great shot placement as well!
Nice mature buck Steve congrats!!!
wow nice buck great mass in those antlers what part of the state is that from?
Got lucky again Saturday. Had a buck come by I thought was gone. He had not shown on camera for a month and I was setting in a spot almost a mile from where he originally hung out. Pig hunters have pushed a lot of the deer off our spot and they must have pushed him to the opposite end of the place. That or he just got a hanker'n to move. His traveling days are over.
grayghost you sure picked a couple fine ones to put your buck tags on.
Watched this guy for a couple years and passed several NICE bucks to get to this result. Be patient and they will come :)
That's a nice buck, Lowell! Congrats!
Steve... You the man! Well done on those bucks!
Shot this guy on Thursday morning at 7:45... came in and made a scrape at 50 yards away and walked down broadway. :)
Nice job, Rick! Congrats.
Nice job, Rick! Congrats.
Took this buck Saturday evening came by cruising looking for does
Bowme2 what an awesome buck and great picture. thats why a man goes to the woods, dont get that kind of quality very often, very nice.
Well he isn't much compared to what everyone else has been shooting but I am happy with him. 150 lber. Shot him on November 8th, in Welch, OK. Sorry the picture is so bad after a long drag by myself that is all I could do. Double lung he just ran away from the truck instead of towards it. Always a good feeling when you see your deer fall and you know you don't have to trail him forever!
I apologize for the pic. But, I was alone. This buck came in to hit a scrape. 12 yard shot. 30 yard recovery. 11/13/2013 at 5 pm.
Not the best pic since i was alone and used my trail cam. This morning at 755 he came to a rattle.
Congrats Jason!
Ralph, that's a nice deer! Congratulations!
I was kinda bummed out when I thought I lost my memory card that had the pics of my big 8 I shot last week. discovered that it was in a different camera. :)
Largest 8 pt. Ive ever seen... 40"+ of mass!
If I look high in that photo I apologize, Im really not... it was a VERY long exhausting day.
Not the biggest but always fun on Oklahoma public land
Nice eyedoc. I know just how you feel. ;) I love big 8s!
Went duckhunting for a bit before the season closed yesterday. Bagged 2 wth my Greatplains Longcurve.
Pan seered with a wine reduction. Served with homemade cornbread dressing and savory/mushroom wild rice. Mmmmm mm.....
Lowell... that's a GREAT 8 point!
Trevor... haven't seen you in a while! Well done on what looks to be an easy PnY public land buck! Nice shot placement also.
Rick, its amazing how focused on one or two deer we can get in a period of time, almost to the point of obsession....
Some "wanderer" shows up weve never seen, pops out infront of us, presents an opportunity, ... and it all goes right out the window!
So true, Lowell. I shot a "wanderer" and never saw "the one". Those big ones are just ghosts... sure make it fun to stay on stand and creates such a mental chess match.
There's still time... :)
Gulfcoast, Any buck any day is a great day.
Rick, This has been a horrible hunting year. I have only been on 4 hunts this year, and I didn't run a single camera. Hopefully I will get one more late season hunt maybe at lake canton wma or thinking about going and trying crosstimbers wma.
Well put Eyedoc! 4 or 5 years ago I wouldnt think of passing ANY buck that didn't present a shot!
Your picture with that great public land 8 is a perfect example why NA Hunter ranked the state of Oklahoma #1 for whitetail deer hunting this year!
My son killed this 6 point with his bow. His first.
That's pretty awesome, Allen! How'd that make ya feel? :)
That is awesome. Congrats on the first with a bow.
Shot this guy Nov. 12th on a morning hunt. One of the coldest days at the time and it was 9am. My best bow kill and his gross score is 165, 38 in of mass.
I was excited to be able to share the moment with him. Now we will see if we can get dad a buck deer. Its been very slow in woods county.
Big late season doe down.
Nice job guys. I'm sure all that harvested have great tales to tell and memories to recall. Good luck to all for the remainder of the season. Perhaps I will get a chance to finally get to the woods soon. Has not been a good year for me but next year will be. Congrats to all. Hope everyone has a safe and joyous Christmas.
My late season buck. I actually passed on this ole boy in Oct 2012 and took a 160" 8 pt instead. He won't score well, but he had great mass and was 7.5 years old.
Matt
killed this young buck near Daisy,Okla. he came in so fast i couldnt stop him until he was almost directly under me. I was left with not the best angle, but it was shoot now or not at all. The rage didnt dissapoint me, feel real blessed to get this buck!
This is a buck I've been hunting now for five years. I have had multiple close calls and I've taken thousands of photos of this buck. I figure him to be at least 8 if not 9 years old. He finally made a mistake on the last day of the season Wednesday. Gross 143.75. This one is extremely special to me.
Congrats, good looking buck! Looks like he has alot of grey hair!
Wow! Nice job Oakie. Great late season buck!
Congratulations on the late season successes fellas!
Anyone going to the BCO banquet?
