Been toying with the idea of moving to oregon from colorado for work reasons. curious to know how the hunting is there for your average joe on public land. Drawing tags, land access, other hunters deer/elk populations/management, etc. ive heard some good things about the state but when looking at maps of the forests, most of them are littered with roads and im wondering how that effects the hunting. ive looked at the odfw website but im looking for some sort of insight from hunters. would you recommend oregon?

Going from Colorado to Oregon will be a definite down grade. Too many roads, too many predators, too many over sold hunts. Poorly managed game populations. Only 3 units are managed for trophy bulls. So if you want to draw one of these hunts it will take many years.

it has a huge effect on the hunting imo. my frame of reference to compare Oregon is northern New Mexico and Colorado when it comes to elk and deer hunting, Idaho for bear hunting and Wyoming for antelope hunting.
your conclusion on the number of roads and subsequent traffic on Oregon public hunting land is spot on. it is the worse I have seen and as posted above, is a down grade from what big game hunting Colorado has to offer. if you can avoid it, I would recommend you do. there are much better options imo. good luck,
