Redding Residents 1 - White Buffalo 0

Redding, CT., White Buffalo, Inc. employee Andrew Walter tried to shoot deer on 420 Black Rock Turnpike, 3/17/14 and was meet with fierce resistance from the surrounding neighbors and local residents. The DEEP had been requested to oversee White Buffalo, Inc. but the residents were given a resounding " NO ". The group of residents positioned themselves between Andrew Walter and the deer in the Redding land trust property. Redding police were called several time and opinions were exchanged from both sides. No arrests were made ! Andrew Walter left at 8:35 pm without taking a shot, but later at 10 PM contacted neighbors and said he would be back tomorrow. Neighbor 416 BRT remarked, " Bring it on ".

Don't think for one second this is good. We will be met with the same resistance this coming hunting season when we go hunting. They won't differentiate between WB and hunters. The whole thing is bad publicity for everyone. The one thing we have on our side is that we play by the rules. This season is going to be important for every hunter to be extra careful doing everything by the book.

Why isn't this front-page news?

Tell the Antis that some poacher is shooting deer out of season. They'll be out in force wearing green pins and singing koombaya.

I agree that this is not good for many reasons. What happens if the antis start to think they can do this in every town and be successful? They dont know white buffalo. They know a hunter was stopped. While the whole premise of this "study" is suspect. It is something that should be handled by hunters if this hunt is unjustified then we need to contact deep . Maybe we should also let the antis surround other hunting areas if they believe too many tags have been used in it or maybe have the antis come it when someone uses a shotgun instead of a bow even if it os legal. We can go on but this can never be good.

Gives hunters a bad name in the eyes of space cadets who don't know the difference between hunters and their tax money hard at work hiring out to kill deer.

If the town and state thinks this is such a great idea they should do this on their property. Would you want somebody shooting a center fire rifle within 500 feet of your house because your neighbor thought it was a good idea? I have been through this numerous times with DEEP and I understand this is not hunting but why is the baseline for hunting 500 feet and any thing goes for snipers?

How about the 10 acres for rifle in ct ? Do they have that ?

They did operate on town land. No written permission. No public notice. No referendum.

You can gaurantee that David Streit will be on Channel 12 news defending White Buffalo and trying to convince the Town and local media that his team of night killers are helping Redding and that the residents are over reacting etc..Unfortunately, him and the Buffalo team are no good for hunters or the Town of Redding...Its time for the Select person to end this wasteful project

If Hunters don`t step up and stop what`s happening in Redding, CT there won`t be a deer season in Redding or Fairfield County. Whats next for White Buffalo and the DEEP Wildlife Division, Ritchfield, Weston, Westport ? Lets not forget about Sunday hunting which you fought so hard for. Without enough deer there will be no Sunday hunting.

Snipers ,hunters ...the diff is a hunter is told who, what, when, where and how a "target" can be put down. Both shooters are to hit their point of aim..and we have to pay , which also pays contracted shooters

Lymefree No hunters that hunted town land this year will be permitted to hunt town land in the fall of 2014. Is this Redding ? Are they trying new hunters or just gave up ? STEVE

Dave Streit aka"Lymefree" is now trying to settle the score from years back when the Wardens in Redding would not let him play with them. He doesn't play by the rules. He has been pushing the "kill all the deer" idea since '06. Its like "scared streit" in Redding. He goes around telling people that they and their kids are going to be crippled by Lyme if they don't let hunters on their property to kill all the deer. Heard he killed thirty just last season and not a one in Redding. Go figure, he says there are still too many deer.
