OK Peeps,

The time has come to request my vacation time at work. I will have about 7 days to take off.

9/15 is a no brainer. 9/19 before all weekend worriors are out is also a must.

Now, If you guys had 5-7 days to take, what days would you take? I don't like to take more than 2 days back to back because by day 3 I can't wake up.

I know it's early to talk about the rut but I want to block the days so nobody takes them at work.

I always see a bunch of bucks the first week of november. That is when I have a week off every year.

Wow - I agree with the first week of Nov, unless you're hunting in the same spot where I hunt, and then I would suggest January. :)

However,....remember one thing, I don't shoot unless it's really old, like me.

I'm 54 so they have to be at least 20 inches wide and close to the road .I really limited to what I shoot.

If you can, wait to choose the days in accordance with the weather forecast. Best chances of pre-rut/ rut buck are when it us the COLDEST...

Buckiller,

the scientist say weather has no effect whatsoever on deer movements or habits. Don't know if that's true, but I know crappy weather keeps most hunters at home, so maybe that's why it seems better for the rest of us??

Yukon

I'm 63 and there's a couple of spots on state land that I hunt that take me an hour of steady walking before I start hunting. Never saw one big enough to shoot, or maybe I just didn't want to drag one that far ;( Either way, I love going over the next ridge.

Crow,

I prefer to avoid the full moon due to the ability it provides deer to frolic under cover of darkness.

This year the last quarter moon phase is Oct30th with the full moon on Nov 6th and the first quarter phase is Nov 14th.

Based on this if you want to spread your days out I would go with 10/31 & 11/1 then 11/11 & 11/12 and 11/14 & 11/15.

Crow, save 3 of those days at the end of Sept and come to MD with me to chase Sika Deer. Something exotic, Free Range, reasonable, and delicious.

Hey Crow I have been takeing the last week of bow season and the 1st 4 days of gun season off for the past 10 years and If I had to pick a 2 day block of time off it would be the 19th and 20th of november. As luck would have it i have killed 3 slobs on the 19th of november for the past 3 years..Now its really hard to catch any zzzzz's on the night of the 18th for me..I have seen alot of rutt activity from the 14th to the 23rd typically in my areas of the state that i hunt. Good luck with your choices!

I don't have that problem lol, I'm off from oct 20 to dec 8. But as mike in Ct stated I think this year nov 11-20 should be a hot time due to the timing of the full moon. Although many big bucks have been harvested during the full moon period if you don't mind sitting all day, usually real good mid day movement 10-2, but for me I can't sit all day so I prefer the week after the full moon as I prefer dawn and dusk hunts. Good luck
