Okay all you woodsmen out there. Can anyone give me some good tips as to what kinds of places are likely to have morels growing. I've only found a scattered few even though I look quite a bit when I'm out turkey hunting. I've heard they're sometimes associated with dying Elm trees, aspen stands, old orchards, etc. Surely someone out there has some tips on the kinds of environs that produce in NYS?

The leeks up here are close to being ready....look a little slower than most years...soil temperature maybe. They're coming along. Potato and leek soup is hard to beat.

I've heard about the old orchard thing but I've never had any luck finding any.

Never really looked in ny. My inlaws place in VT holds a lot of them. Usually on the east side of this steep mountain. About halfway up the trees turn from mature white pines to mixed hardwoods. It had Ricky faces and plenty of water.
