i should draw this year. I've heard all the doom and gloom about numbers being down from ehd. i will be hunting around keosauqua on a friends farm. ive never been there. how's the area? any restaurant recommendations? im not concerned with killing a deer, that would be a bonus. he tells me there are some nice ones running around. I'll have around 500 acres 1/2 timber 1/2 farm land to spend a week in early November.

Deer numbers vary from greatly reduced to business as usual. Just depends on hunting pressure in your immediate area as well as whether EHD was a factor. With the acreage you have available you should do well. May have to work a bit harder than normal but you should see some nice bucks if you put in time and effort. Riverbend restaurant has very good pizza, pork tenderloin sandwiches, and giant soft shell tacos. The rest of the menu is pretty forgettable IMO. First Street Grille is probably the most popular with hunters and has better overall food than Riverbend. You can get bored with Keosauqua restaurants real fast. If so, consider a field trip north to Fairfield which has a much greater variety of restaurants.

If you like catfish you should have friends take you to Arbela, Missouri. Only 1/2 hour drive or so. Best catfish buffet around. The chicken is really good too And if you go on the right night they serve frog legs on the buffet too.
Besides that the restuarants in s/e Iowa suck.

Agree with the Riverbend and First St Grill comments. I live outside Arbela and the Catfish Place is not bad.Im from the South and like my catfish filleted and fried crispy. CP cooks them whole and they are soggy. Try the Grouper sandwich at First St Grille

If you have the time, to celebrate you successful hunt, take a trip to Albia. Bogeys Steak House is top notch. They have a replica hanging of the world record Non typical Albia buck.
