Looking for a good way to spread agg lime....really wanting to make a drop spreader something similar to the rhino limer any suggestions?

Since you only need to spread Ag lime once every 4-5 years to me it makes more sense to rent one for 60-70 dollars a day from the Ag. Dept. You get to keep it for 24 hours which is plenty of time to put down all you need. Of course you have to have or borrow a tractor.

I don't know what a rhino limer is?

I just looked it up, looks pretty neat but unless you're going to be on level ground I don't know if an Atv can pull a ton of lime uphill and I don't think I'd want to be in front of a ton on an atv going downhill.

Well that's the thing I can't find one to rent anywhere they don't do it at farm bureau here nemore and the atv is no problem on pulling stuff got a 6x6 ranger and really isn't much of a hillside here and I'm figuring I can come up with enough scrap junk to have my brother weld me something together and make it last for years to come and with my job I'm always on call so would really like to have that I can just hook up to and go anytime I need

I understand, but I can't help. I have enough trouble using things much less building them.

Haha think I got a pretty good idea and think I got everything to do it with now it's just a matter of getting time to do it

How much lime are you looking at? Heck, I put out a thousand pounds this year in my push-behind lawn spreader.

When I relimed my plots 2 years ago I put out 36 ton. Depending on ph it can take 2-4 ton per acre.

look into Solulime at Southern states coop,, one 50 lb bag is suppose to equal 5 bag of other lime,, we been using that suppose to work 3 weeks after hitting the ground,, now Im not sure how long it lasts,,, we just got a pull behind spreader from lowes to pull behind the atv

Well instead of building or renting one I found one while I was out working the guy said he wasn't or hasn't used it for years and had it in a scrap pile and pretty much got it for nothing now just need to show it a lil TLC and it should be good to go for future years of use!!!!
