You can head about 30-40 minutes north of Danbury and do some fishing on the housatonic river in the Cornwall Kent area. Small mouth bass is typically good this time of year on flies.

Squantz Pond and Candlewood offer good fishing and aren't a long ride from Danbury

I think there is an NWTF dinner on the 7th just down the road from Danbury in Monroe...you could try that and maybe even meet a few people with the same interests you have

I always recommend a visit to all the Firearm Manufacturers while in CT. Colt, Winchester, Mossberg, Ruger, Marlin, oh wait ... never mind.

Bowsite Headquarters is still here, I bet Pat could arrange for a tour.

You could always go to Redding and help count Deer, how good are you at Math? Can you add up all the deer you do see, plus the deer that you don't see, and come up with an accurate count? If so then there is a Tick Study that has some Federal Funds they are looking to share.

Seriously though, coming from WI, you probably won't be all that impressed with our freshwater fishing. The salt water fishing either in Long Island Sound or further east offshore might be a nice change of pace.

Just remember, NO SUNDAY HUNTING here, so don't even think about it! We can however now buy booze on Sunday, (since a year ago!) after all, we're not Puritans ya know.

Are you bringing Rancid Crabtree with you from WI? That guy always made me laugh.

Where are you staying in Danbury? I can recommend some good places to eat, what kind of food do you like?

If it was winter I would've recommend to barrow Steve's quad and plow Ace's driveway.

Any open shoots in those 2 weeks? We don't have one at my club this month otherwise I would tell you to come and shoot.

Our favorite thing to do in Connecticut on weekends is go away to other states. I'm going to Vermont where people are nice more like minded. I just hate having to comeback.

Nothing outdoor related you can do in CT that you can't do in Wisconsin.

You can get on a train and go to New York City and see the sights, go to show or something like that if your looking for something unique to the area.

" I can recommend some good places to eat, what kind of food do you like?" As long as it's Equadorian, Brazilian, Columbian you're good.

There, finished.

Visiting the CT gun companies is a good idea., but MARLIN closed at least two years ago and is now in North Carolina. Visit the rest while they're still in CT, cause they're all leaving the state soon!

Good food = quick Greek food at Nikos, next to the Christmas Tree shop on Backus Ave, west of the mall. quick Southwest food at Desert Moon, 113 Mill Plain road. Don't know if you've ever heard of Panera Bread, but they serve tasty food, and the asiago cheese bread is fantastic toasted. They are also located just off Backus road, next to the mall. Rosy Tomorrows, or Square One, are also on Mill Plain road and are popular stops for a drink and food. If you like Indian food, Kolam in Monroe, on RT25, is an exceptional authentic experience.

The Eric Sloane Museum(Thurs to Sunday 10:00 to 4:00) is filled with early American hand made wooden farm tools. That's north on RT7 in Kent, a scenic drive along the picturesque Housatonic river.

In New York, you can visit West Point or possibly the FDR Presidential Library/museum in Hyde Park. The Vanderbilt Mansion is nearby and also a tour.

If you do get to eastern Connecticut, the Pequot Museum is really nicely done. The Submarine Museum in Groton is very interesting and the original Nautilus is open for inspection there.

I'm on vacation this week and have made three visits to Rocky Neck State park beach, probably crowded on the weekend, but typical New England.

Great bbq at the cookhouse on rte 7 in New Milford. About 20 minutes north of Danbury. Also The Foundry Kitchen and tavern in Sandyhook (part of Newtown) Cant go wrong. A little pricey but always very good. In Newtown You can see a movie at the Edmund Town Hall for $2.00 Also in Newtown, Then hit The creamery at ferris acres, a dairy farm, awesome farm made ice cream. A nice evening on the cheap! In NYC you can see the 911 memorial. Mystic Aquarium in Mystic ct. Take a ferry to Block Island for the day. Great Party boat fishing on the BlackHawk out of Niantic ct.

If you fly fish, bring the 4 wt and go hit the Farmington. It's a bit of a drive from Danbury (not bad, maybe 45' or so...) but, it's on par with any trout fishing. The river's personality, is different than say the Kinnicinic out your way, but it's fishing experience is equal to those better driftless area streams.

I would pack up for the weekend and head North. Travel the Maine seacoast, go to Vermont see the ski mountains.

Go to Mass and go to Cape Cod (traffic sucks) Plymouth rock (very small rock). New England is small you can be in Vermont/NH/Maine in about 3-4 hours.

The Saltwater Fishing is really what you should sample while you're here. This is a link to the Charter and Party Fishing Boats.

Closest to you would be the Stamford/Norwalk/Bridgeport area, all less that an hour south of Danbury.

A Charter boat might be hard to get on short notice for a weekend, and expensive enough that you'd want to share the cost anyway.

A party boat is a walk on type fishing boat, the cost is about $50-75 depending on how long they stay out. Usually all equipment is furnished or available to rent, and they can offer some great fishing. This time of year they are likely fishing for Fluke and Black Sea Bass and maybe Porgies on the bottom, and Striped Bass and Bluefish if jigging. They also might do a mixed bag type of trip. It depends what's been biting.

The Middlebank is one of these types of boats. It's out of Bridgeport.
