Shot my first deer with my bow today, lost my first deer with my bow worst feeling ever. My shot was off which I don't understand I practice 3- 4 times a week. Blood trail was spotty bright red no bubbles spots then a pool spots then a pool then onto an adjoining property. Called the landowner and could not reach. Then it was dark still couldn't landowner. Very bad feeling. Lots of coyotes in area I know it will be gone in the morning. Really sucks shooting an animal and not recovering it. Very bad feeling never lost a deer before.

Go back and look for sure, but, do you have a sense of where you hit. Bright, non bubbly blood is often a muscle hit. Very often, it's an over the spine OR shoulder blade or brisket or chest, but superficial.
I note that, because it's possible it was a non fatal hit.

It looked high and forward arrow had muscle tissue with little blood but saw 3 decent blood pools where she stopped.

No one wants to loss a animal,But it does happen. And do remember, nothing goes to waste in mother natures woods.I have been bow hunting for 40 years and have lost 3 animals,Which one was a pope and young black bear. The next day I took a great pope and young black bear with and white blaze on it head.so keep on bow hunting.

I've lost 2 chuck so I understand how u feel bud one was taken by another scumb bag hunter I tracked it all the way to the gut pile it died right next to the main entrance of the property I was hunting. And lost a monster 7 point that would have been the biggest buck of my life this was 8 yrs ago and another hunter that was on that property found the skull the following yr and kept it rrrrrrr that really pissed me off but anyway it does happen buddy chin up u could have deflected off a small sapling and didn't even know it it happens it sucks bad but does happen

Thanks appreciate the support. On the bright side a local bow hunter had some time to track for me today he hunts the land that my doe ran on he picked up my blood trail and followed it jumped the doe and it started raining and lost the trail. He said it was high and looked like a survivable wound but he is hunting in the tomorrow and will keep an eye out for her I unfortunately have to work. And again thanks for all the support with any luck he will spot her if not hopefully she will make it.
