Opening day 8 pointer in velvet!

Went out yesterday evening after work and took this nice 8 pointer still in velvet off private land in wallingford!! What a surprise to get this guy on opening day I wasn't expecting to take something this good!!! Had a bachelor group of 3 bucks come in on me (all good 8 pointers and all shooters for me) and this one presented a broadside shot at 15 yards. Now that will get your adrenaline going this is my 3rd season bowhunting and I really love it!! This definitely takes the pressure off for the rest of the season but I'm already itching to get back out!

and we only had pics of one good eight that we knew was in the area so lesson learned you never know what's going to show up at any time of the year so you just gotta get out there!

Awesome a few years ago in CT they shed a little late and we saw velvet bucks for the first 2 weeks but never did connect.

I shot a big 8 in velvet on Thursday afternoon.. couldn't believe he was still in velvet... all other bucks on cam were hard horned. He was just starting to peel in a couple of areas.

a buddy of mine still has a couple of little ones in velvet as of yesterday in NY. Crazy. I shot 2 small bucks in velvet the past 2 seasons. The one I shot this year was just starting to peel last Thurs when I shot him. crazy.. because all of the small bucks were out of velvet, and he was much larger than the next smallest... and he was full.
