Any thoughts on this area? It is 45 minutes from my house and did hunt it 3 times, setting up in different areas since not really having the time to scout preseason (new child). Anyone with insight on this area in Union would be greatly appreciated. Even if it is just success non success in there. I did jump deer on the way out the first two times, but haven't seen them while on stand. You can PM me if you don't want to post to everyone too :)

I hunted there a few years back. Actually I hunted just outside bigelow in nipmuck. Whenever i scouted i jumped deer. The sign is there but the few times i sat i didnt see any but they are there and you just have to figure them out.

Ive hunted that area for the past 5 years and have had ZERO luck. The signs are there, pictures on cameras etc. No luck. Not going back this year. Not sure if thats Zone 4A but I know its close and there must be a reason only allowed 1 deer unless its changed.

I hunted there last season like others sign is there but while on stand nothing at all. To many dog walkers hikers and last yr ran into a uconn study group have a picture of a monster 10 point on camera but both pics r from midnight not another pic during the day the deer r there but very very very tough to hunt

If u I were u I'd stay more on the nipmuc side of things bungalow side has a lot of human traffic which in my opinion pushes the deer deep I won't be going back there this yr either

PM sent BigZ. I found Nipmuc to be about as good as Z9 here in MA, at least the Z9 area I hunt (basically the North end of 190 if your familiar with that area.
It's not a deer behind every tree, but, there are some corkers and more deer than a lot of central MA.

I can't offer much of Nipmuc around Bigelow Hollow but Nipmuc is fairly large and relatively unpressured in a lot of areas. My buddy has some land bordered by a smaller section of the forest and we normally have the forest to ourselves for much of the season until gun starts. Taken some decent deer there and seen a few real nice ones. In the past 5 seasons I have hunted it I have only ran in to one other bowhunter.

Pat, I have gone in by the upper part of the road near the town hall. Came out Friday and there were two different trail markers going down the ridge. Only 100-200 yards off the road. Then more a little farther in. Found another one in the dark Saturday morning while walking in, though much deeper. There is plenty of sign, but nothing while on stand. It doesn't appear to be many hunters in there at all.

Did you get my PM? If that upper spot has people traffic, try the spot I noted that was about .5 Mi down. It's a longer walk in, but, fewer folks too :)
Good Luck! Will

I drive through there two days a week, very few vehicles. The only place I see Deer is the apple trees 1/4 mile North of Pat's house ;)

Will, I did...thank you. Just read it this evening. I am going to print it out and either go out to hunt Saturday or Scout on Sunday. Depends on what the wife has planned. I'd rather make her happy and sacrifice a day now than later in October. She calls herself a Fall Widow once Pheasant season opens here in MA too.
