SO, I have 100 pics over the last 10 days......Legal? Pig roast?
Not 1 deer pic on this cam....I wonder why? LOL...Jeez, beyond aggravated...
I worked on my grandfathers cattle/ hog farm all my young life,,, them aint wild hogs,, unless someone just let them loose very recently or more likely they got out,,,wow what a problem to deal with
Dang! What a nightmare. I have a friend who shot 2 hogs this morning on his lease in SC. They had a few random pigs the last few years but this year they have a large herd that is eating all of their deer bait and have destroyed their food plots. Their season has turned from fun to war. I hope your new visitors belong to a farmer and he rounds them up soon. Hating this for you!
Wait for hog season and go up there with a few buddies and have fun and eat good
yeah, I would say someones hogs got out, but I couldn't tell you ...this is way out in the middle of nowhere..
I cant keep from laughing, I saw all the sign and thought I had a herd of deer in there..LOL
Those are somebody's hogs that they are letting roam free( probably to fatten up on acorns and your corn) . When we first got our lease we had problems with cattle and horses.
Looks like Iam going to need a bigger freezer..LOL
How bout a guided hog hunt?
deal..trade you a hog hunt for a spike hunt
May look into it a lil more may not actually be a wild hog but I do know in florida they's a lot colored up the same way and they are wild I haven't ever heard of a farmer turnin hogs loose to fatten em up if anything seems like it would make them lose some weight

you need to do what gobbler and I did on our lease call the dnr and see what you need to do,,, they may be legal to kill,, we got to the point on our mingo lease that we had 20 head of cattle and 8 horses grazing on our reclaimed strips,,, we even knew who owned and he wouldn't come get them said he had the right to use land as no one was using it ,, seems to be a problem in areas of old reclaimed strips to turn em out to fend for them selves then gather them up if they can,, finally they disappeared few at a time,,, not sure how,, may have helped when the game warden stepped in
I talked with our lease Pres today and it looks like a gentleman let the pigs go on an old abandoned strip that borders the lease....looks like he has done this in the past...
We have a DNR officer on the lease, so he is going to touch base with him to see what can or should be done.
The lease pres told the owner that they needed to be picked up or the DNR was going to get involved, and the owner kinda told him he didn't care..
I just hope it gets cleared up one way or another, because its jacking things up bad right now..
If he doesn't pick them up, I hope the DNR lets us take them, that would be some good eating right there...LOL
I wonder..........?
I don't think there's any code concerning feral hogs. I'm guessing you can shoot them at will, without any permission from anyone other than the property owner.
Jim, I think you are correct. The only problem is if they belong to a neighbor or someone and you start killing them and they find out, the future trouble they can cause may not be worth it in the long run. Such as vehicle or atv damage or stand damage or theft. Especially when you lease it and are not there much.
If the property owner leases the land for hunting then they have some degree of responsibility of providing a reasonable hunting experience especially if you are paying for hunting rights . That does not include hunting in a hog lot.
I would get the landowner and DNR involved to let th do the dirty work. That might help keep some of the anger directed away from the hunters.
Just my humble opinion.
Perhaps I misread. I thought the owner had reached the point he "didn't care" about the pigs. At that point I'd call them feral and not loose domestic livestock.
I'll guarantee you one thing. If those were on my land, and the owner didn't care about them, I'd be putting them in my freezer as fast as possible (before someone else did). Those rascals are in gooooooooood shape. lol lol
If they're not dealt with, it won't take them long to make a lot of feral hogs running around.
You may be right , but when we dealt with the cattle the guy that owned the cattle told us he didn't care what we did, which ended up meaning he didn't care what we did he was going to keep them there. That's why we had to get the company and DNR involved.
Those are big healthy hogs which translate into several thousand dollars at the butcher . Maybe he dosen't , but I just can't imagine he would give them away volunterely .
But if he really dosen't , I'd be filling my freezer with bacon and sausage this fall. LOL
I think bacon and sausage is bad for your cholesterol. Lol
Waiting to hear back from game warden.....My understanding is the owner did this last year with some of his hogs, but they finally went off the lease....But with this large group, nobody knows if its the same group from last year, some from last year and new ones he has let out or all new ones.
He told the club president he didn't care what we thought, he was going to let them roam....
It looks to be around 40 or so in the group, maybe more, with several little ones in the group, still nursing on some of the sows..
As far as issues with cars and atvs, our lease has 9 gates that the timber company put in last year that keeps most of the guys off, but we still get the occasional atv rider or 3 come thru...but I always park inside the gates.....At least make them work for it..LOL
And I agree, those look like expensive hogs, but, if the DNR gives us the OK, I will have lots of pork in the freezer, maybe we could do a Bowsite pig roast...Compliments of the local farmer...LOL
I wish that they were in Wyoming co.
Here's the things boy's. Your never going to round up all those hogs. Never. They were turned lose to start something. Anybody who knows anything about pigs knows you are never going to get them back. They have to much food. If they don't interact with people routinely, they turn wild quick. Kill them. Kill them now. Kill them all if you can. And kill them with a vengeance. You'll likely not get them all but, hopefully you will. God Bless
I'm confused with what you are saying? You say the landowner let th loose, but then you said the timber company?
Is it a landowner next to timber company land that you are leasing?
And NO, you don't want them in WY county. Multiple states are having severe problems with feral hogs. They will breed like rabbits, and out compete native game for mast and food. If feral hogs get a firm grip in the Archery counties you can kiss the trophy deer hunting goodbye within a few years.
feral hogs totally ruined my father inlaws farm in south carolina in a matter of few months,, rooted up ground,, stopped cotton corn and soybean production, and they can have couple of litters a year,,,, it was a war on hogs till they were gone and theres still hogs there in them swamps they can't seem to kill ... fun as they are to hunt you don't want them
I wish I had a farmer around me let pigs go. Heck even some feral cows would be great as well.
I hate landowners that think they can do whatever they want on other people's land.Of course, he wouldn't want you or any animals on his land. Kill em all.
Didn't we use to have a season down in those counties? If the breed a lot how come there are no hogs there now. Don't worry the good ole boys will kill em off. And remember one of the things that started the hatfields McCoy feud was a hog. Lol
Up here in these Mtn counties those hogs would get shot. And these guys would have never mentioned it to anyone.
I hear ya J. R. , same here, we would be eating tender loin for breakfast !
Ron Miller
we had same problem at our lease,, had a fellow that had total disregard for who owned the land didn't care if we leased it or not or if it was timber company land or not,,, and left the cows there no matter what you , dnr or land owner thought....like gobbler said you kill em you may have a range war on your hands Id let the law take due process if they will.... cows were a pain but at least they stayed in the reclaims and rarely in the woods,,, hogs will go anywhere,,, you have a real problem if you kill em then you got locals looking for your property for revenge and gates won't stop them,, seen gates pulled out by coal trucks and log loaders as well as dozers,,,, a lot of resources to borrow from after work is over....I have heard many stories of folks turning livestock out on reclaimed strip mines not caring who owned the land,,, the stories gobbler and I could tell you would amaze you,,, I really feel for you and problem
Yeah Gobbler, the farmer turned them loose on an adjoining strip job, his house-farm is on the other side. The old strip is between us...
We lease the land from the timber company..The hogs came right off the old strip onto the lease. I guess the farmer was using the strip to try and fatten them up on the free.....IDK
I just know iam going down there to hunt tomorrow, hopefully DNR gives us the green light to go Rambo on them all..LOL
And I agree, now is the time to thin them out before they take over everything down there.....
