Looks like a deer but not sure. Keep in mind this is only 4 foot off of the ground.

You don't have any stray moose in your area, do you? That looks a lot like what I've seen in New Hampshire while moose hunting.

No elk. Bear, porcupine? Bear usually rips the tree it self though.

I would say deer. Moose usually thrash bushes like willows etc and they eat bark of certain smooth bark young trees and it looks like feather vanes on an arrow. I saw a show where a guy makes cut poles and wires them sideways across a deer trail and then he put up cameras and watched and the bucks loved usuing horizontal rubs and they are simular to how the branches are.

That's a bear porcupine can't break branches like that . If its 4 ft off the ground and you have no moose it had to be bear
