I am new to Oklahoma hunting. As I understand it, I can take 2 bucks and four doe with archery tackle and I have to drop $20 on each tag.
The guy at academy in texas had me confused, I'm sure he was wrong though.

You are correct, but you can only come hunt Oklahoma if you take a tick back to Texas!

I live in Oklahoma. This will be my first year hunting though. But I still work in texas so I'll try on the tick idea

In theory, yes, 2 bucks- 4 does, with archery tackle. As a resident 2 bucks is all we can harvest. Firearms (rifle/muzzleloader)one each but that would leave you with no bucks for archery. Take both with Archery gear and your finished as far as buck hunting in the state. It can be quite the juggling act if you harvest (buck)early with a bow. Check the Regs on firearms hunting for does, it varies on days and locations. Invest in a Lifetime license, it's well worth the cost.

ipaggie,
It was just a joke, no harm intended. I am all for Texan's hunting in Oklahoma lots of revenue for our Department of Wildlife.

Just to note, if you put in for and draw a special hunt, bucks harvested on those tags don't count against your 2 buck allotment....for future reference.

Thanks for the info. I do it understand that the limit is six deer, no more than two bucks, is the limit for all seasons combined. I plan on using my recurve all the time anyways. The guy at academy was trying to tell me I needed one archery deer tag for six deer...
And Stevieray36, I knew that I was joking too! Haha!

Get the Lifetime Combo Hunting/Fishing license. It's well worth the cost. If you get the lifetime the only additional thing you will need is the HIP permit (which is free) for migratory birds and a Federal Duck Stamp if you waterfowl hunt. Most everything else is covered. I got mine years ago and it has more than paid out. Go to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife webpage and you can find all the information and how to get it. The turnaround time is pretty quick. Also, if you get the lifetime and move out of state, the license is still good. You can come back to Oklahoma and hunt without having to buy a non-resident license.
The guy at academy didn't know what he was talking about. 1 tag = 1 deer. So, go buy 1 tag and if you kill a deer, check it in and buy another tag.

Ipaggie, You can kill all six deer with your recurve. No more than two can be bucks. There is also the holiday antlerless season around christmas. Not sure about the regs on that one. Good luck
