Thinking Ground blind in the AM due to forecast rain. Tree stand in the PM.
Should be good conditions for stillhunting. That's where I'll be. No treestands up this year.
I'm sleeping in, then a midday still hunt, followed by a nice evening sit at the base of a tree. It's my normal Saturday hunting routine.
I can only get out in the afternoon/evening. Work night shift tonight, don't get home till 8:00am.
Enjoy, good luck and be safe. Jeff
Do I need a crossbow stamp to bow hunt? Can't find that info in dah book..
Sitting in a hedge row between to standing corn fields in Ohio right now. Rain just stopped, clearing a bit to the west now. A big boy came through here Wednesday at 6:30 PM according to my camera. Wind Is steady and perfect. Nice night to hunt. Couple of nice bucks are bedding in the corn pretty regular
Mike
no stamp required. crossbow is covered with your archery stamp.
RC, can I borrow your crossbow? I can't hit a thing with these regular bows. You can print stamps on the computer, btw.
Ok Mike, don't have to rub it in! :). Should have posted that last week for you!
Treerat,
Get a recurve or longbow and still hunt in the corn during midday. start on downwind corner and work your way into the wind across the rows. Poke your head in a row look right look left if no targets step in to next row, repeat until you pop out the other end of field, then move down about 20 yards and go back to the other end. Continue traversing the field. Works best on windy days .Wind is not so critical. On a windy day inside the corn the wind will mask any noise you make with the rustling of the stalks and leaves and also has a tendency to swirl your scent around. When your scent is swirling around and deer catch a whiff of it they will first determine where it came from before evading you. Swirling wind makes it very difficult to determine your location. I always wear quiet outerwear. Cotton, fleece or good old wool camp shirt. Shots will be under 20 yards and in tight quarters. This is perfect for non-compound bows. I do this on those days when I have issues with the alarm clock. I usually wear Predator Fall brown, 6 color GI BDU camo or the best corn camo made, ASAT.
Just want to say good luck and be safe. Can't wait to be in stand with or without rain. Awesome to just start another season that we love. This year, have fun, be safe, and enjoy another fall in God's Kingdom.
Going to get on a stand seems like the rain is not that bad.
Two Hawks that's good advise, maybe I'll try it.
