That said I've often said that if the deer contracted some disease that the only thing that would happen to them would be they no longer grow antlers it would be the best thing to happen to the sport. People would no longer hunt for horns. But people being what they are would probably start measuring hooves or something else to judge the deer.
Do you honestly think the "shows" are doing the sport any justice? There are many non-hunters, that may not care either way, that flip through and see these "shows". They would very easily get the impression that bowhunting has turned into a sport to kill an animal only for the bone on their head.
I was flipping through the channels last night, after the game, looking to watch an elk hunt or something like that and saw a young boy talking to his grandpa about the buck he just hit. He was in a vehicle, talking on a cell phone to his grandpa, explaining the buck and the hit that he made on it, saying it was a little back. They waited until the next day to trail it, which they should have with a gut shot deer. They found it, after the coyotes did, and said that the coyotes did a good job with it and all the boy said, was that he was just happy to get the rack. Nothing about feeling bad about not getting any of the meat or wishing that he had made a better shot. That really didn't sit well with me and I know it wouldn't for someone on the fence about hunting.
Oh yeah......I really like the shows that put a tape to the rack as soon as they can.
But what can we do? It's a free country and I don't think anyone should be saying what they can or can't put on TV, if that were the case I wouldn't allow 90% of the crap on the other channels as well! Stop watching them is one way as if they don't have the viewers they aren't making money and they will go away. But good luck with that because the masses will still watch them.
Truthfully I think way to many hunters don't do the sport justice either. They are trying to raise deer instead of hunting deer IMO. Having "guess the score" threads doesn't help either, nor does putting a picture on the web with the score on it. I will never let a tape measure touch another one of my deer. Maybe a scale so I know how much meat I get but not a tape measure.
Big Joke.
Nobody can argue the amount of time and money you have invested. Can I ask what your ultimate goal is? Will a 150 be nothing in your future and talks of 200 will be the one killing batteries on your cameras and calculators? Will you become bored?
I like to video but do not get into the fist pumping chest thumping thing. No video this year just hunting. Hunting is not a spectator sport. A lot of these shows are a joke and I no longer watch them.
That alone will have impact on a number of guys that could ripple outward.
If you can afford to purchase and manage land like November, you can implement rules that follow your value system.
Hunt with your kids or take some other kids hunting. Plant some seeds.
There's no need for a revolution. We just need everyone to push from where they are, relentlessly...like grass in a crack in a sidewalk.
This was to the south... to the east was another large unhunted tract..
Clearly a great area to catch big deer in between... and we did for a couple years...
Then upon arrival to the area. We always cruise the areas mud roads before we check into our motel. And guess who's trucks were parked all over now filming their show on the Cabelas property...LOL... hint.....From Bloomer... named after a beer...
Yep.. Once we realized they were there... We knew the days of decent hunting was over from that publicity.
But that's not the worst of it.. they stayed in the same town at a much.more lavish place. .. they were sending every hunter they could talk to to our area of public land to make sure pressure kept the deer in their Piece of heaven so they could film kills.. they did kill several deer on that piece that made their show... but they also ruined a great piece of public ground thru publicity and referring all to it...
Needless to say... I am not to fond of those father son bozos.
It is all about money gentlemen and lot's of it. Everyone like getting a piece of the pie and some - not all of them cheat to do it.
And we are the idiots that keep this crap rolling. We watch the shows, we stand at the booths opening our wallets because we all want to shoot the biggest buck of our life and these folks know how to do it (at least we think they do) and if we hang on their every word...well, maybe they will give us a good tip.
It's a joke. It's all marketing!
But we do it over and over again.
It will never, never go away. We refuse to let it go away! We as a hunting community...we love it.
Sad.
Seriously? Actually, I'm shocked at the responses to your thread. Let's look at your other thread "New Equipment":
" I was thinking about some of the new equipment I have recently purchased. For the most part I have been disappointed in my purchases . My HSS Safety Vest Harness the "Elite" is so heavy I don't want to even put it on . My 3 blade Rage bounced out of a deer I shot at . The string loop I my new Mathews is black and difficult to see in low light . My Mathews draw cycle will rip your shoulder off if you just inch in a little. Most of these items get a lot of hype from the TV celebs and the print publications"
Your seriously talking about a revolution when it appears you are a "fan boy" based on your purchases. Didn't you lift up you "elite" harness prior to check out? How about talking to the tech who set up your bow with that D-loop and requesting a different color? Didn't you draw the Mathews back and/or shoot it prior to purchase? And Rage 3 blade?
EVERYTHING has been marketed in hunting from the beginning. Did Fred Bear market his shows and equipment?
I'd imagine you have this same meltdown with sports too. Heck, you probably call for a revolution for the marketing going to the grocery store. " they said no fat" or "light beer, less calories". God forbid you ever watch a NASCAR race;)
Take it for the entertainment value. If you don't enjoy watching it, don't. No one ever told you that you NEED a Mathews, Rage 3 or that harness(obviously if you would have asked someone, Mathews don't have the kinetic energy to deploy a mechanical head;). You as a consumer have the ultimate choice.
My release and arrows have "Bone Collector" stamped on them. Do you think I believe there the best because of the endorsement? Nope. Is there better out there? Probably. Did I purchase them because the release felt really good and the arrows flew good out of my set up. Yeppers.
And for anyone who states marketing is the biggest problem with hunting..... I hope you stay true to your word and never figure out the cam that makes a supersonic bow with a real good, smooth valley. It would suck growing old with that tech hidden away in your basement;)
Seriously people......it's TV
I know it marketing.. has been for decades .. everyone thinks if they just had this or that they could be a big buck hunter just like they are...
Helloooooooo. ... they hunt in controlled environments... We do not... you can have every gadget known to man in your pack ..If the deer are not there..guess what??? You ain't gonna be a big buck hunter ..
I don't buy anything for hunting anymore basically because of this BS... I shoot a 9 year old bow with 10 year old arrows and 15 year old broad heads with fresh honed blades.... I find myself time and time again at Gander walking out with nothing but a laugh...
We simply need to move on to better things more in tune to todays culture. Hunting is not it, mechanical advances and greed ruined that.
Realy? The compound bow ruined hunting? Aluminum arrows ruined hunting? Do you hunt with a branch and string made from a vine and arrows from a stick?
Greed? All the companies that supply the hunting industry are just greedy corporations? No they are not. Most are passionate hunters that saw a need for an item and made it. Do you realize how hard and expensive it is to bring a product to market? They have taken great financial risks and some have paid off. And yes marketing is how you sell a product.
I do agree that some of the shows are a joke. The canned high fence hunts with the bait piles is not sporting at all. There must be a want from their audience for it or they wouldn't be filming these hunts.
Those that say the xbow has ruined hunting better agree that the compound did too or that would be hypocritical. It was the exact same story decades ago with the trad guys when the compounds came on the scene and the kill rate went WAY WAY up. I don't believe compounds ruined hunting.
That is a well stated post Dan.
Bowhunting is dying as many have abandoned their bows for crosscompounds. The number of bowhunters is in serious decline ( watch the license sales the next few years). The number of deer hunters with any weapon is in good shape, crosscompound use is rapidly expanding.
Therefore...bowhunting is dying, deer hunting is alive and well.
agree 100%..... what is being sold to the public today is NOT bowhunting
- Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac
Is there a single industry that has not had technological advancements?
Everyone has choices but I bet very few of those complaining about technology are hunting in loin cloths with wooden bows and arrows. I bet the vast majority of them even shoot compounds.
I bought a range finder lasy week. The store wanted $ 20 more for a realtree covering. I said black or no deal. The young man discounted the unit when I started to walk away. Smart.
One of my grandsons just bought an underarmor teeshirt for 4 times what its worth because it says Underarmor. What a scam. Times have changed.

Bowhunting seasons were created for the challenge, we already had rifle seasons. Bowhunting was a step backward, and that was the justification. Now the technology and horn porn slobs have eliminated the challenge. I vote for one deer season, the hunter can use any weapon. No need for separate seasons, bowhunting is on the decline ( simply monitor the bowhunting license sales).
It's BS.... and the Bowhunting Org that use to represent bowhunters and fought for us caved
To save face from the shame of an able bodied man using a crossbow. Because some want to claim they have done things the hard way, but will take the easy any chance given. Plus those that want to put a buck in the book, but can't if shot with a crossbow.
Who really cares about P&Y? If that is the reason people hunt, then all I could say is WOW. P&Y didn't allow compounds at first. Then they didn't allow 50% let-off. Then they didn't allow 80% let-off and now they allow 85% let-off if not mistaken. P&Y didn't allow lighted nocks and now they do. They seem to change as the money moves forward in technology and membership is needed. Again, P&Y strictly points to the horn porn that most are bitching about above in regard to technology and TV shows.
To save face? You mean with the 18 year old blonde at the registration station? You think she cares what you shot it with? All she cares about is having to touch the icky deer. And next year with phone in registration even she won't know. You guys are really grasping at straws!
today you buy a compound arra launching device with 80% let off , a release aid, a mechanical fall away arra rest , fiber optic sights , lazer range finder , carbon arras , flip open heads , 5 different camo suits with scent lok technology in different camo patterns, several hang on stands , a climber, a couple tent blinds , an ozone machine , an electronic deer call with remote , 6 or 8 digital spy cameras , 1 or 2 satellite linked spy cameras , a tractor with tillage tools , planter ,fertilizer and seed and a pallet of buck grub ............ and you go hunting expecting to kill 3 or 4 does to "donate" and a couple "book" bucks for the wall .
Yep ........... I'd say that either we have had a revolution or we need one now .
Walteman, some blame CWD efforts, too many does shot and wolves with a drop in gun hunters. While some of that may be true, we're in a different time; when beginners don't see much — or it takes too much effort to get something — they seem to give up easily.
The bow kill when I started in the 70s was a tiny fraction of what it is today. Archer numbers have only doubled since then, yet the kill in the past decade has often been 7-10x what we used to shoot. Not only is that a reflection on advances in equipment and other technology, but it's that many more deer that aren't available to gun hunters either because the deer are shot or because they're aware of hunting pressure and therefore become less visible.
I have heard of a few taxis in northern WI who have plenty of evidence of bow tagged gun shot deer... .22 slugs in the head... Muzzle loader and rifle holes in the cape... Air gun pellets in the head.. etc... it's already happening.. that's before xbows...
What?.. you think these xbow easy way out guys are of some different integrity level...?? LOL.. ya... ok..
Has the look of a fishing boat changed in the last 40 years? Have all the gadgets and gear made fishing more fun and effective?
Cabelas, Basspro,Gander, Scheels and this website all thrive due to this market demand. Name a hobby where advances in equipment hasn't changed the sport the last 40 years.
If xbows actually affect the herd dynamic then the rules will change affecting vertical hunters equally. Whining on a forum won't will away xbows.I choose to smile and play on vs. taking my ball home and going fetal.
Correct, nobody is forcing people to utilize technology. Everyone opposed can be out in the loin cloth with their wooden sticks and arrows. They can take the scopes off their 30.06 and use iron sites while sitting on stumps. Hunt as you like and don't worry about what others are doing if they are hunting legally.
You know Howatt some time ago I knew of a self-proclaimed bowhunter who crowed his accomplishments far and wide. Big Man on Campus. He was the pre-eminent expert on sausage-making, the smoking of ribs, fish and wild game. Leathercraft too.
That was, of-course, before he was taken down a notch for a violation. You see, he shot a witless spike buck off of a corn pile with a rifle. That's pretty low.
I own an x-bow because I have degenerative arthritis. It's progressed enough that I had a hip implant at age 56.
Your belittling remarks are reminiscent of the violator. IMO you might consider a long tall drink of humility.
Readers might take you seriously as a consequence...
Let's also look at how these shows assist in recruiting. Women in the outdoors is the largest growing group right now. Most of these shows highlight women, youth, disabled and vets in at least one if not the entire show. As some might rip on Lee & Tiff or Pat & Nicole, they do show women in the outdoors and probably more importantly, show a woman can hunt AND still be pretty and feminine. Other shows, like Jay Gregory's, revolve around the entire family involvement in the sport. In order to produce shows, they still need $$$ and the only way is by endorsements.
Heck, if you guys want a revolution on the commercialization of hunting, why are you posting on Bowsite? Double edge sword. Just look at all the advertising and sponsors.
I love the show Raised Hunting and all it stands for. I met the family at DeerFest this year.
What is killing me in this thread is that people who are complaining about the technology, are using it in some manner when hunting. Name me one industry which has not evolved due to technology and I'll show you a dead industry.
The problem is intense competition for the few decent buck deer that are walking in most of the state...
In some areas .. very few areas... There are plenty of decent bucks to hunt for most all who hunt these areas... but for the vast majority of the state... it is over hunted.. over harvested ... and there simply is not enough decent bucks to make hunting enjoyable for most folks..
When this happens as it has over the last 10 years or so.. folks use things to increase their odds.. always trying to one up the next guy or neighbor.. little more feed on the pile.... little faster bow... xbow... scope.. lighted feed piles...lighted shack feeders.. .22 in the bow stand... etc... etc... etc...
So what would change this..?
Killing less buck deer..
So what does the DNR Do? Make most of the decimated over hunted areas buck only to further decimate the buck population ...then they allow the Xbow besides which also will add to the decimation...
They cant ban deer baiting to reduce the buck kill... folks aren't smart enough to hunt with out bait..
So what's left??
Not much!
Do you mean the state of WI which has one of the largest whitetail kill rates of all states annually and also puts more P&Y and B&C bucks into the book than other states? I think there are plenty more than a "few decent buck deer" in this state. People just don't realize how good we have it here in WI.
"So what does the DNR Do? Make most of the decimated over hunted areas buck only to further decimate the buck population ...then they allow the Xbow besides which also will add to the decimation"
BTW, the DNR did not allow xbows, the Legislature did. As much as I am a HUGE Walker fan, he signed it in.
If you take away a few counties buck entries.. The rest of the state pretty much enters nothing.. kills almost no book deer...
Why... cause most of the kazzillion hunters are in these areas as that's what's left to hunt ... so.. These areas are over harvested...If they are not over harvested.. why does just a few counties provide all these record entires?? Why are they not better spread through out..??
You put the hunters per square mile in Langlade County in Buffalo or Waupaca county and your record entries will be gone...
It's about over hunting and over harvesting forcing fighting over the deer... this then forces guys to use every trick in the book to steal the deer from the rest ... it's done all across the decimated area... it's not a local thing... this is where the problems come from..
Guys si my are not smart enough to hunt deer without bait... that's a big one in most of the decimated areas... add in cheaters with Xmas lights or solar lighting... shack killings... and now the xbow
Really.. There isn't anything left to waste a 24 dollar tag on... you can't shoot a doe for the freezer... and if the only bucks wandering g around are little...
I won't waste the jing...don't pay... There isn't anything to hunt?
AW, the three counties you named had only two of the top 40 highest-scoring bow and gun bucks in Wisconsin in 2013, and in 2012, Buffalo County had exactly ZERO of the top 40 WI gun and bow bucks (and only one each in Langlade and Waupaca). Several dozen Wisconsin counties had top 10 B&C/P&Y typical/non-typical bucks in WI the past two years, including eight in the north.
But it won't happen with hunter greed...
And don't worry... big money for tags means less nerdy hunters and I am A OK with that if it costs me a few bucks... I have never had a bad hunt out of state.... not 1 and been hunting several other states public ground for nearly 20 years...never stumbled onto a illegal bait pile...... never found someone's wounded buck they shot with low light and gut shot and never found... never got into a bitch with another hunter over a tree...
All are very common in good Ol WI deer woods.
Quality costs money... make our tags 75 bucks for a deer license and you get only 1 buck tag.... you can bet things would improve state wide.. Even if they left the baiting problem here.
When skills are no longer paramount...
Integrity is removed...
With no integrity ..... how is archery to defend itself?
With no defense of the archery season and nearly all weapons made legal in it including a bunch of gadgets that should have been disallowed...
You no longer have bowhunters
But it appears folks are fine with that...
I am not... so ... I won't do it here in WI... it's not a big loss... The north is decimated ..full of feed piles and xbows ....it really is not a loss to not be a WI bowhunter..
But i still am a Iowa . Nebraska . Illinois. Missouri. ..bowhunter...but it will spread there as well as kazzillions of fed up WI guys find better hunting on public lands in all these plus more close by states..
Taxes are more than hunting g land is worth... land is for sale everywhere... that tells me a lot of folks realize it's not worth it.
;)
talk about dope and idiot, add liar as well
I'll let the DNR reg book and the PY club define fair chase. One can always regress to 100 year old equipment.clothes....Have at it.
Many Utes, with far more stress on them than prior generations will enjoy great weather and a positive hunting experience this weekend. Or do we revert to the ol' days when lilJohhny endured smoke filled bar rooms, was dropped at the crap stand with crap equipment and was really only in camp as a bird dog with an extra bucktag.
Personally attacked? What's next, play the race card?
Ya... you guys keep thinking your not part of it ... and you keep tolerating the deterioration of the what use to be the bow season...
Won't be long now... she's all over but they fat lady singin.
But you keep telling yourselves .. Play the role.. tell your big buck BS stories...make yourselves feel better how ever you like..
Drink heavily.. what ever works.. but you no longer have a bow season in WI..
And when your hang over is gone and your ex wife has her lawyer calling you for your late child support... When that's all said and done... you still do not have a archery season in WI
Huh? which is it?
this thread has existed for one week..LTL Jimmy please explain what YOUR perfect world would be regarding deer hunting.
When I started .. The compounds if they even stayed together shot like 170 fps...they were not that big of a advantage over a recurve. So most of us clung to our fred bear...
Now days... it's not just the fast bows.. it's fiber optic lighted sights.. drop away rests and every single gadget any bozo can market and sell to make it easier to kill the deer.
Then we think baiting/training/feeding deer like common farm animals is what needs to remain ...as it is legal..lol..
Then that's still not easy enough.. so we allow xbows with lighted magnified scopes with 30%+ more effect range... and then this now allows rifle hunters to sit in their heated.. baited... and lighted in many cases enclosed condos and point and shoot while taking their pick.
Here is what I propose to reinstate some skill requirement for bow hunting in WI
#1 get rid of baiting and feeding 100% triple the fines for this violation.
#2 set a max draw weight for weapons allowed in the archery season. Of 70 lbs peak draw weight.
#3 pass regulation that prohibits discharges of any weapon from a enclosure ..building of any sort. Violations penalties to match the new baiting /feeding fines. Allow pop ups only with 2 square foot blaze orange flag 3 ft above any occupied pop up for any use in any season
#4 go to a 75$ deer tag system that is not season specific .. 1 buck tag with applications for a second with antlerless harvesting in over populated counties.
These measures would restore some of the integrity loss ed by tech stuff and the never ending quest for the deer to fall over dead 10 yrds from your truck ..gut itself... tag itself...where the hunter has almost zero to do with killing it except pulling the trigger..lots of killing ..very little hunting is what the issue Jimmy is talking... I agree
So you would like guys to dial their bow down after elk hunts and retune it? Yep. That'll make bow hunting a little more difficult.
" I think killing animals for sport should be the most difficult thing you ever do."
I'm very glad that you are up for the ultimate challenge...take some small kids bowhunting with you!
Are you shooting wooden bows and arrows? Please don't tell me you shoot a compound and say it is the most difficult way to bowhunt a deer. Try hunting without showering and wear some smelly blue colored clothes and hunt them from the ground. That will help your challenge.
+1 again November. I like how you think.
The Choices are clear. Do you want to be part of the DNR’s army to kill And/or Do you want to be part of the Drury Dream Team so all can see how awesome you are at killing. You can get your very own personal camera close up telling everybody about your great achievement .
Or do you want to be an elitist like me . I just got done putting a new beaver fur rest on my longbow .LOL Those choices are easy .
The following questions are a little more difficult , and might sting a little . Why do you feel the need to spill the blood of a majestic creature like a deer? Should we think about that? Should we ever question the how and the why ? Seems like not the worse idea . I mean we are not talking about a chicken in a pen are we ?
A Whore I love your list , I just don't think we are ready to have a list . We need a time to detox from all that currently is . We need to ask and than ask again Why and how .
Do you profit from a kill in anyway ? Does it validate your existence in anyway ? Does it fulfill you in some way emotionally ? Does it help sustain you ? Is it just something to occupy your time ?
I know this to be true . The first Wi Deer Bow Hunt started with a man’s fingers actually touching his string . And his boots were touching the ground while he killed the deer. Another elitist he was .
I bowhunt for a) enjoyment b)Herd/forest/ag health c)tradition. I also choose to bowhunt with a 303 fps 7 pin wheelie bow. I have run into the stick bow elitists in the past. Hats off to You. Reminds of the pipe smoking barbless flyfishing $1000 Orvis rod crowd as I rip lips with a coffee grinder and treble hooks. I doubt 5% hunt on the ground with stickbows and loin cloths. Goodluck with your movement.
It's deep....read it twice ;-)
You are completely correct. People need to focus on their own agenda and stop focusing on changing someone else's belief. It is about time I stand up for myself and quit trying to change someone's mind set.
Thank you! Thank you!
Little Jim and I will be getting married soon. Wanna come to the wedding? The world is much happier now for sure!LOL
Happy Happy Happy Hunting in this hooray for me the hell with you world!
I think all Jim was saying is it would be nice to see a change in the TV shows and get at least some reflecting simplicity without the tech stuff. I can see the TV guide now... "The Elitist Bowhunter"
Novemberforever you seem to have made a few bucks in the Cali Real Estate rip-off a few years back. How bought financially backing or sponsoring a few Elitist in a show??? Something to make Eichler look techy???
A little statistic for you. Every year, we humans advance techno-wise twice what we had the year before. In other words, whatever we ever knew from cave man time to the year 2014, we will double that in 2015, and each year after. It might not "fit" in the world of archery for some, but you have the choice to make it more difficult, or use the latest greatest.
What remains certain, is you will unlikely convince anyone that whatever you choose is best for them. That is why that other hot topic is more related to this topic than you might agree to, and that is why I took the same stance on that topic as well.
I started in 1980 using a recurve, cedar shafts, finger tabs, shot insictive, climbed trees with no seat let alone stand, only played the wind, used plaid clothing as camouflage, rode my bike to where I hunted, shot anything, the list goes on. Technology allowed me to improve upon my equipment etc., and today? I'm very far away from 1980. It makes sense. Could I go back in time? Of course. Would killing a deer be more difficult? Of course, but that's a decision I have, you have, anyone has, to make for themselves.
I'm currently typing this message from my smartphone, I could paint on a cave wall, but you might not visit said cave, or see my response. Technology has certainly changed man. And I might agree that all....is not good!
Why do we allow more and more tech that reduces the challenge ?
No offense... but if any one and everyone does it.. it's not that tough.
It's like if all Ball carriers ran for 200 yrds and 5 TDS every game... who would know who was better??
Generalizing all of us Hunters as equals is where the issues with this comes to light ... We are far from equal... never have been or ever will be equal..it simply can't happen.
I'm not making any personal attacks directed at one or two but this entire thread/thought process is idiotic.
Where exactly would you like to dial back technology to? A certain point or just how you believe everyone should hunt?
Self bows with home made arrows and bone/stone broadheads? What kind of challenge is that??? You need a string to propel an arrow? Don't even think about driving that truck out to hunt, way too easy. Better grab your horse.
Don't even think about those clothes. The only real challenge is a loin cloth and a spear, jumping out of a tree.
That's unless you really need a horse, loin cloth and spear..... Us REAL men walk naked to our hunting land and run down deer and choke them to death.
And to think this all started by a guy upset his new Mathews bow rips his shoulder off and his Rage bounce off of deer. I think we're all stupider for reading this thread;)
LMOA .... you're grasping for straws ... Bowhunting was intended to be a challenge ...... that does not mean you have to live your entire life as if you are living in the 40's or 50's when bowseasons were first opened .It is perfectly sensible to type on a computer and live in a modern house and drive a 2014 truck and then go to the woods during a season that was once called a primitive weapon season and use equipment that keeps the challenge in the game .
I have restored a couple 60's muscle cars . If I was to enter a drag race for original muscle cars would you show up with a 2014 Shelby and then bitch because they wouldnt let you enter the race and at the same time make the claim that your shelby was really not that much of an advantage ? Should I also be required to drive only 60's cars and trucks ? No modern trucks allowed ..... LMAO
Technology has its place But IMHO in bowhunting hitech should have a shorter season and be called what it is ..... HITech hunting ..... having animals killed with all the gizmos and gadgets entered into a record book that was originally designed to prove that recurves and longbows were legitament hunting weapons and therefore Bow seasons should be allowed is a joke .
At the very least hitech kills should have a higher minimum score . With bow killed whitetail minimum set at 125 and B&C set at 170 ,Hitech minimum shouold be set at 150 .
dontcha think ?
OK, then you set the parameters. Is it "ok" to use aluminum/carbon arrows with a recurve or must they be wood? Broadheads.... must they meet a minimum "tech" grade? Are we using scents, horns to rattle and calls or are they to "hitech"? If we can use them, what are the "tech" requirements? Camo? Do tree stand need to be homemade or are we forbidden to use any sort? How about ground blinds?
Of course, as soon as we are all abiding to your standards of bowhunting, along comes another "jimmy" who states we are taking the easy, "hitech-ish" way.
Let's not look at the possibility of a increased gun season since archery harvests will trend downward with your new standards.
Maybe it would be just easier to give your revolutionist a Merit Badge and "atta boy" for your harvest;)
In the 80 ' s and 90 's I hammered my share of big Mulies and Whitetails . I started to get bored so I went bqck to the Recurve and wood arrows . I now shoot some of each type of bow .
Now No trailcams , no rangefinders , no treestands , and no bucks under 130 gross . Try that for a CHALLENGE .
Awesome hunting
yup ... I guess so ..... there would be fewer deer killed with REAL "stick and string" equipment ....... so why is that bad ?
I suppose "we owe it to the deer" to use hitch 80% let off arra launching devices so that fewer deer will survive the bow season .
oh well I guess if thats the case we can have a few more gun tags and it will all balance out in the end .And we keep the "stick and string" in the bow season .

The bomb saved 1 million soldiers, besides the fire bombing campaign killed way more japs than the bomb did.
So tell us Jimmy what equipment and how do you hunt? Do you gun hunt as well?
A stickbow only season would mean expanding the gun season/ag tags for herd control.
Is it like Viagra for you? Do you get one lasting 3 maybe 4 hrs or something? Wow...
LTLJimmy, please tell us what equipment you are hunting with.
Why stop at xbows... We are all for one and one for all...?? Right??
I want to hunt with a rifle in the bow season ... who are you to tell me how to hunt..??or that if you hunt another way .. I shouldn't be able to use my rifle??Because it isn't what you use??
What a idiotic defense to wasting our archery season...
Wouldn't expect any better from those turds..and it is exactly why you have the xbows... heck... I am willing to bet the so called bowhunters who claimed they came up with this separate tag BS idea are already hunting with xbows and passing themselves off as bowhunters...
That's why there is no archery season... The only group founded to defend the bow season was infiltrated by xbow pushers so they could hide as a archer and use a easier weapon and perpetuate lies...
Nice folks.
Ok...not a problem for this Bowhunter.. I won't support what has happened to bowhunting in WI...I just cant.
I say one short season, use whatever weapon you choose. Bowhunting is dying much faster in Wisconsin than it grew.
Agree with AW.
You want hunters?? Or nature lovers..Hunters need targets to hunt... without them your just a bird watcher.
