John French is running in district 29 (seat formerly held by Don Williams - we all know who he is) This is the response I recieved. I will be supporing him.
We are overtaxed. 1. I would like to reduce the gas tax to compete with border states and keep CT money in CT. 2. I'd like to have the state take over special ed cost. That would help reduce local property taxes. 3. I oppose Common Core. As a local board of Ed member I think control needs to be at the local level. I oppose most anything the Feds want us to accept. The feds have seldom created a program that is successful . I don't want to leave educating our children in their hands. 4. Yes I support background checks and protecting law abiding gun owners 2nd amendment rights. I have been endorsed by NRA and CCDL. 5. Don Williams has personally stopped Sunday hunting. I believe you should be able to hunt on your private land if you so choose any day of the week including Sundays .
Vote out ALL the democrats if you want change in CT, period. Otherwise, nothing changes and we can all look forward to the same downward path for the next 40 years. Is that what everyone wants for their children?

If you are going to be away you can get an Absentee Ballot, they are already available. Last week a friend of mine was telling me that he sold his house, and is moving south. I asked if he's going to be around on 11/4 and he said he may have to be moving some stuff between houses in preparation for the big move. I reminded him about getting an Absentee ballot and he did, he called me and left a message "I voted for Tom Foley". I have to admit, the message made me smile!
Ace's Link
And while I have the soapbox, I'll throw in my endorsement of Tom Foley for Governor.
Dan Malloy has been a disaster for gun owners. He has also increased sales tax, gas tax, income tax, and others. Despite saying he was FOR Sunday Hunting, it didn't even get called for a vote while he was in office (or only got called in one chamber).
I have heard all the arguments for the 3rd party candidate Joe Visconti, some say he's better on the gun issue. The problem is, HE HAS NO CHANCE OF WINNING the election. So why bother wasting a vote on him that could go to Foley, who promises to back our rights as sportsmen?
Also the Attorney General Candidate Kie Westby says he will actively work to repeal the new gun laws, HE needs out support big time.
He's supposed to be included in the next couple of debates and said that if his numbers don't go up after the debates he'll throw his support to Foley. I'm curious to see how his numbers are effected by the debates.
Remember, it only takes one idiot to nullify your vote. if we convince just one person each to vote our way, we'll do fine.
Now find your idiot and and switch his/her vote. I hope Rudy doesn't find out he is my idiot :-0
As Legislative Chairman, it's my job to report of topics that matter to Hunters, Gun Owners, etc. I usually keep it pretty down the middle, encourage everyone to register, research your representative's positions, make sure they vote, that sort of thing.
Tuesday Night's meeting was different. I took the tact that every single person in that room was significantly affected by the New Gun Laws. I said we all now need to prove we are worthy before buying Ammo.
We need someone else's permission to give a firearm to our spouse, or our child.
Magazines that we may have had for years, and firearms that we may have had for years, or wanted to purchase are now considered Assault Weapons (or 'High Capacity') and we can no longer buy them, and need to get the permission of the state to keep what we had.
I explained that the current Governor is strongly behind all these new laws, and totally supports them, and in fact I have it on good authority that in the next Legislative Session they will be back for more. More laws like One Gun A Month, and Liability Insurance for Firearm Owners ...
About the time I was really getting going, and suggesting that everyone REALLY needed to vote for Foley, a member spoke up, (he happens to have the same last name as our Governor, and happens to have the same parents). He pointed out that the new laws are nothing but a minor inconvenience and "reasonable", and will make us safer. He said that preventing Felons from purchasing guns is obviously a good idea.
Let's just say that while I didn't exactly lose my cool, things got a bit lively. I pointed out several flaws to his logic. Obviously NOTHING that his brother passed would have prevented the shooting in Newtown. And despite his description of reasonable, they were still significant infringements on my GOD GIVEN Rights.
I reminded him that before the last election, HE told me that his brother isn't against guns, but doesn't want people running around with Machine Guns. I reminded HIM that since machine guns have been federally regulated since 1934, we obviously don't have to worry about that.
I pointed out that he enjoys the right to free speech, but what if the state decided he could only use it a certain number of times a day? I asked him to explain to me how making me ask the state for permission to give a shotgun to my Son makes anyone safer?
His response was "well these laws are a starting point, they can be tweaked".
THAT IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU ELECT AN ANTI GUN GOVERNOR! Laws that are passed without Public Hearings "that need to be tweaked".
Anyone who doesn't vote, or votes for someone other than Foley for Governor should be ashamed of themselves. They'll be part of the (continuation of the) problem.
Rant over.
Yep, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Do as I say because I know what's best. Of course what's best for you is not the same as what's best for me".
Not in Connecticut. They just planted a bag of votes in Bridgeport the other day.
So implying someone isn't a sportsman because they don't blindly wave pom poms is pathetic.
If everyone who says Visconti is not electable would vote for him and talk to others I bet he'd win in a landslide. While I love that he has vowed to repeal SB 1160 (hope I got the number right.. not checking tonight) I think his plans to REDUCE taxes speaks to every taxpayer.
Do you know anyone who would NOT want their taxes reduced? This is the ticket to getting those who have written him off to start thinking.
Negative? Maybe you don't remember the letter writing protest I proposed to pressure Republicans to resist more gun control legislation. Larry Cafero, House Minority leader(a Republican) who voted for the gun control legislation, has decided to bow out of politics. For that, I thank God. Where were you?
I will hold my nose and vote for Foley, but I seriously doubt much change will be made in our gun laws. Once in, he works to get re-elected, that means, the economy/taxes. He will stay away from the gun issue, because should he turn the state around in job growth, why stir up controversy. And Damocrats, who want to toss him back out of office will put forward more gun laws, not especially to pass, but to paint Foley "pro gun", and demonize him.
As we all know, the outcome of politics is the will of the majority. I've been in this state long enough to see the change in the people and their values. It doesn't look good to me.
By all means, vote, it's the least anyone can do.
When the poles are 43-43-9%, voting for the one with 9 is a waste of a vote.
I those cases, you are better off voting for the lesser of two evils.
That is what I'm planning on doing. I just want Malloy OUT. So, not that Foley is a lesser of two evils but he is the only electable candidate to get rid of Malloy.
Vote with your brain not your heart.
$0.02
Wild Bill, to answer your question where was I? I haven't always been an outspoken advocate but I always vote with the best interests of sportsmen in this state and encourage everyone I can to do the same. I started bowhunting only three years ago and now I am more involved in getting out the word.
Chriscsg, I'm not asking anyone to wave pom poms but demonstrating negative attitudes helps other people to feel the same way (voter apathy). Let's be positive and work on getting our friends and relatives to make a change. You already know what doing nothing leads to, look at our state and our country.
well said!!
Vote for every republican candidate on the ballot. Send a message and help save us all.
You have to put everything on a valance and then decide who you agree with the most.

I don't think you were ever a republican, and certainly not a conservative republican. You're in the right party with the Dems.
I say abortion is pro-life for the baby, not against women. Women can chose not to get pregnant, what choice are you giving the baby. I'll leave this one in God's hands for those that disagree.
I say gay marriage is fine, just don't force the churches to perform them, you know, seperation of church and state.
Voter ID - Republican are against voter fraud, like the Bridgeport ballots for the last gubernatoral race,...remember?
I guess this is like anything else, you choose your side and I choose mine, and good luck to both of us.
Right now, I don't like ANY politicians. We need term limits so the common guy can get in there and make changes that the people want, not the parties.
Abortion is legal, the chances of that changing in our lifetime are approximately zero, but does it have to be used as a form of after the fact birth control? Is it too much to want people to use some measure of common sense and good judgement?
I don't think too many people would argue with a politician who said that his or her position was that Abortion should be legal, safe and uncommon.
And while we are at it, when did it become ok to bash people because of their religious beliefs?
If your religious beliefs say that gays shouldn't marry, or abortion is a sin, aren't your 1st amendment rights to those views every bit as valid as someone who says They will marry who they want and have an abortion if they wish?
Somehow it's become perfectly fine to censure and put down beliefs you disagree with if they come from the right. But Heaven help those who disagree with a liberal, they're called all kinds of names.
With you on the Term Limits thing Bob. Hard to get people to vote r things that limit their own access to the golden goose though isn't it?
Just like Connecticut has now. One vote per person after showing your driver license photo. Why is that too much to ask for?
"women rights"
Which right are you specifically referring to? I don't think they have a right to my dime to by birth control. Besides, the current White House has been shown to under pay women staffers. Popular Democrats have been notorious womanizers for years.
"gay marriage"
Since Eden, marriage has been one man and one woman. The government only got into the regulation/permit for marriage to establish an age for consentual sex and determine both parties were free of veneral diseases. Remember this, gays don't reproduce, they recruit. They want your sons, daughters and spouses, not for love, but for unbridled sex. Most, if not all, play in feces. There is a good reason why $hit stinks.
"abortions"
America is almost up to the body count of Hitler. 50 million babies have been murdered since Roe vs. Wade. Slavery was once declared legal by the U.S. Supreme Court too.
national defense
Who has allowed possible ebola carriers into this country, West Haven being the closest batch yet? Who fought against the Reagan starwars technology, which was shipped to Alaska and the west coast, once it was learned North Korea can launch nuclear warheads to this country.
jobs
Who was supposed to be focused "like a laser beam" on jobs, but instead, has swelled the rolls of unemployed, homeless and government assisted?
'I could go on", yeah right you are.
The people of Houston have the ability to sign a petition to vote on the new law but they needed something like 10k signatures, they got over 50k and she refused to honor the law!!
This is INSANE!!
This is Dumb-o-crat!!
This is a Democratic ;)
"The measure bans discrimination based not just on sexual orientation and gender identity but also, as federal laws do, sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability, pregnancy and genetic information, as well as family, marital or military status."
And if you read into the repeal of the HERO Bill you would have learned that there were so many mistakes that the signatures had to be deemed invalid.
What type of idiots try to repeal a Bill that stops the discrimination of a group of people? Hmmm.
Wild Bill - " I don't think they have a right to my dime to by birth control" - But it's ok for your money to go to Erectile Dysfunction pills so some guy can pop a boner. ED pills are covered by insurance. Hows that feel knowing your tax dollars help men get boners?
What they want is "FREE" birth control. If you can't afford your own BC, you shouldn't be efing around.
If you have insurance, "the pill" costs as little as $1.71 a month to as much as $25+ per month.
Cialis on the other hand, costs about $11 a pop.
No I don't take either but I went to my insurance Co. website and searched on prices and that's what it costs.
I don't think ANYBODY should get free ED or BC pills. You have a choice. If you think you need ANY of those two, it should be on your dime not ours.
What is at stake here if Malloy wins, is more gun control. Bills that are lying in wait are: 1. Bullet microstamping 2. Ammunition purchase limits 3. Case microstamping (like California) 4. Limits on gun purchases per month 5. Mandated “smart-gun” technology 6. More additions to the last bill ALL GUN OWNERS NEED TO UNITE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST GOVERNOR MALLOY IF WE ARE GOING TO PREVENT THE ABOVE BILLS FROM BECOMING THE NEXT REALITY!!! THEY NEED TO REALIZE THAT A VOTE FOR JOE VISCONTI IS A VOTE IN FAVOR OF MORE GUN CONTROL. THAT WILL BE THE RESULT IF TOM FOLEY DOESN’T GET ELECTED.
Thank you Birdman. This is what we need!!
That's how we do it boys!

The better question would be what level of idiocy is required to craft a bill that makes bathroom choice optional and not predicated upon whether one is male or female?
I wonder if anyone bothered to survey young mothers for their input on how they'd feel while changing a diaper or helping with pull-ups for their female toddler only to watch a "confused" male stroll by and proceed to accelerate the little girl(s) sex education?
No one will ever get an argument from me about the right to privacy in the home between consenting adults, my personal/religious convictions aside.
What we're seeing however isn't a push for equal treatment under the law as it is an attempt at both normalizing abherrent and/or immoral behavior and forcing those personal choices down the public's throat with no regard to the public's viewpoint, religious convictions or feelings.
For the party that preaches tolerance I can't think of a more intolerant act.
I'm not naive enough to advise anyone that the Republican party is perfect; more often than not I consider our 2-party system to be more suitably compared to 2 heads of the same snake.
Here though is where there is great distinction and I am surprised at how many eligible voters are either unaware or unconcerned:
1. The Great Society that came into being in 1965 has done more to destroy the black family that any policy, practice or circumstance than anything that preceded it. If anyone wanted to examine this taking a look at black teen pregnancy rates, the percent of single-family homes, crime statistics, and poverty rates since it's inception would be stunningly eye-opening.
2. The constant push for increases in the minimum wage have consistently been shown to hurt most the people it was originally intended to help; the young and the entry-level, low-skilled workers. It was never intended to be a "living wage"; arguments about families being unable to be supported by minimum wage jobs completely miss the point that personal responsibility should dictate life choices and those choices shouldn't be made without regard for personal responsibility because under Democrat steerage the "safety net" has become instead a hammock.
Of course the dirty little secret behing the Democrats constant efforts to raise the minimum wage lies within the amount of union contracts that are indexed to the minimum wage. Minimum wage increases translate directly into union pay increases with zero merit requirement required. I hope everyone in the private sector (and outside it) realize that the private sector calls them "merit increases" for a reason-they're earned, not doled out just for breathing and having a union card.
3. The Democratic party wants government to stay out of their personal lives; that is until a decision goes against their wishes, ala the "Hobby Lobby" decision. When this happens those same people have no qualms about demanding the government force people to do something against their religious convictions. This is about the best definition of hypocrisy you could ask for.
The Democratic party also has no qualms about justifying abortion under the guise of "health of the mother" or "cases of rape or incest", despite the fact that statistics from ACOG (American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology) and PP (Planned Parenthood-yes, Planned Parenthood) place the percentage of abortions encompassed by these examples at approximately 10% of annually performed abortions. For the math-challenged this means that approximately 90% of annually performed abortions are done for reasons of convenience.
I find it bitterly ironic that the nation that led the charge against the scourge of Nazi Germany and the holocaust the killed 6 million Jews has now made Hitler look positively amateurish with slightly over 50 million abortions (and counting).
4. The Democratic party consistently distorts the meaning of "freedom of religion" to "freedom from religion". Forget lawyers, ask an English professor in higher learning centers to testify to the meaning of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"
These postulations can be easily found with a basic google search and are well-worth reading.
5. The second amendment-I've posted a link that might even be capable of being understood by Rosa DeLauro and the rest of our state's congressional delegation (maybe).
Elections have consequences. In the information age we live in there is no excuse for being uninformed-none.
not sure where you're getting your info, but this is what was reported by the Houston Cronicle. Sure sounds like her office was involved to me.
The subpoenas, which were issued last month, sought, “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession,” according to the Houston Chronicle
