So I got a jake yesterday about 25 yards with the slick trick. I knew I hit him and he limped off while the other 6 hung around. Gave him a little time and walked over in his direction, the others were all bedded down right next to the dead bird. I had to bump them away in order to get him, and they kept coming back to the site, obviously worked up. Never seen birds do this... They probably hung around for the next hour, weird. Granted these birds frequent my work, so they are used to seeing people but still.... Could have easily filled the other tag.

I shot a hen last fall, and the other 13 birds were in no hurry to leave. A couple came over to investigate the dead hen. Same thing, could have taken another bird but decided to let them walk

I've seen others attack the wouned bird as it's flopping around doing the death dance. Not sure why they do this.

To speed up the demise and because the dead one was a bully in his life.
