Hunt Hungry.
Seen a doe, a button buck and a more bigger eight point than last week. But still no doe chasing, grunting, and fresh scrapes are at a mininum.
Things are pretty wild here on Hog Alley! Last evening I saw a buck working a rub/scrape line. I tried to head it off but had a close encounter with two shooter size fawns instead. 8yd half draw, busted. Then on my way out 10 does and fawns came exploding out of the corn 50 yards from me. I stood up on a dead cow burial mound so I could see the tops of the corn moving to intercept whatever was chasing them. Nothing.
I called Mr Perfect and he came right over this morning. I said "tie your seat HERE, the deer will stop HERE, your shot will be HERE". I headed off on a semi still hunt to eventually end up back at his spot. It wasn't long before I saw a pile of deer and they were all headed for Mr Perfect. I could only smile as I imagined him gettng run over. At least 10 skirted wide but a nice buck walked right up to him and stopped THERE. Exactly in the spot I said. Only a 4 point! Sometimes you can't even wish a brow tine into existance.
All together we saw 16 deer today in my little woodlot. We never did get around to hunting squirrels. You just can't beat a day chasing deer with stickbows. The best part was hanging out with a good friend.
Good to hear Red! Who was the "Good Friend" anyways? :)
Red, I don't envy you putting up with Mr. Perfect for a day. LOL How is the young fellow anyhow? I haven't seen him in a couple years. Hopefully, we can get together next year.
Dale, my good friend came over right after Mr Perfect left.
John, he's doing fine. Never a dull moment whether sitting on a log BS'ing, or eating lunch in the truck, I will be chuckling for two weeks after our hunt.
Sitting in a tree in Ohio for a quick evening hunt, the duck hunters sure did spook all the deer out of here. Must of had pictures of 8 different bucks I'd shoot in here before duck season rolled around, now I only have 1 buck picture since 10/31 and no doe. This camera had 800-1500 pictures every 2-3 weeks, once they started driving their wheelers down here and shooting all day with dogs running around all over, this place is quiet , far as deer goes. Worst part is they are all trespassing the property line is the edge of the swamp, my stands are on either end and in the middle where they cross a beaver levy to go from one woods to another. The swamp where the water is, is owned by a absent landowner, he has no trespassing and no waterfowl hunting signs all over but these slobs don't care. They are local and know the guy lives out of state. used to be one of my best spots, going to have to give up on it ever since these guys moved in down the road.
The neighbor already caught them shooting deer in the summer back here, he was going to turn them in but they said they had no food so he felt bad for them, maybe they could afford food if they all didn't have their own 4 wheel drive and 4 wheeler duck decoys guns and it seems like they shoot two boxes of shells each every time I try to hunt here. Rant over

Finally got out Thurs on the ground and I climbed a tree Sat odarkthirty. No sightings but great to be out. Shoulder cranky but holding. Will ground hunt each afternoon Blue Marsh hoping to catch one cruising then back in tree Sat. good luck to all.
Seen nothing in the woods I'm alowed on. Watched (with binoculars)two decent bucks chase a doe over a quarter mile away on posted property with. How do they know?? Still beat working!
Hunting public land in NY this week. Sat all day today and saw nothing... starting out normal haha
Shot this guy Saturday evening, 40 yrd. recovery.Dressed out at 155 lbs. Been seeing some small bucks & passing on them.
My son Jon shot this doe as she was being chased by a 4pt. this morning.
Congrats to you and your son Gonzo!
Congrats guys. I'm still not seeing much, and its not for lack of trying.
Congrats to the Gonsman's...........git 'n er done! ;-)
I hear you hawkeye! Same here. And what little I'm seeing, can't seem to get a shot at! ;-) But man, sure alot of SIGN. Rub lines and fresh scrapes EVERYWHERE! Just can;t seem to put a buck in one! ;-)
Rutting activity has been spotty for me in Ohio so far. I hunted a couple different farms and saw nothing, not even getting pictures of deer on those farms, then Thursday on a different farm in the same area I have been hunting had a close encounter with a mature 18-20 inch 8 point. If I would have drawn on him as he was walking in I probably could have had him at 10 yards broadside. I decided to wait to draw when he passed a big tree and he chose the trail ten yards downwind instead of the two trails upwind from me. Well he smelled something he didn't like just as I was about to draw and bolted backward. He stopped about 25 yards but he was on edge and I didn't even try to draw on him then. That was at 1:32
Then at 3:10 a doe comes from the same direction as the buck (behind me) she ran n on my upwind trail at 8 yards & kept looking back and high tailed it out very nervous. Nothing ever came following her, it would have been a perfect situation if they did. At 4 a doe and fawn also came from the same direction and chose the downwind trail and got out in a hurry but didn't blow. I was way back in the swamp with my climber and decided to start climbing down a little early at 5pm. Sure enough as soon as I stepped out of the clmbed I look over and there was that 8 point 30 yards standing there watchng me. Screws that set up for him now I guess, but it was a good day other than the 3-5 inches of snow that fell on me making things a little uncomfortable

Just heard on the weather we have had the hottest October ever recorded. It sure shows in the Natural World. Bucks here generally start scrape activity last week of September to the second week of October. Its just starting to "heat up" here !! Don't believe it will really get good until Thanksgiving. Got my first picture of a buck whose neck is starting to swell, and just for reference will throw in one who hasn't even started yet. This has been the weirdest season I have seen in my 73 years. BTW ya'll are killing some beautiful deer up there. Looks like business is good in PA :):):):)
With snow on the ground I seen 4 does and a small buck. Sure was cold after that 65 degree Tuesday! And I couldn't cut a turkey??
Tried to get a doe on the ground today and all I saw was bucks. Saw 2 big boys between 930-1030. Had this nice 6 practically sniffing my arrow.
I hunted public land in NY this week. I never saw a deer til today after finding a better looking spot. I sat all day seeing a doe with 3 young ones at 7:53 then a small buck came through nose to the ground a few minutes later. Another small buck crossed the creek 80 yards above me at 4:40.
That's about the end of my season I need to get back to work haha
Another crazy day on Hog Alley with Mr Perfect. Cold, mid 20's, breezy, w/sun at times, ground 1/2 snow covered.
Our first push through a narrow woodlot sent 4 tails into the corn. On the way in for our 2nd push we stopped to yap about nothing in particular when I pointed over Mr Perfects shoulder and whispered "Buck, Buck, Buck!". Holy crap here comes a buck right toward us! It walked by 20yd broadside as we both scrambled to nock arrows on our stickbows. Stinkin' 4 point! Unbelievable. We could have shot it numerous times.
We finally did get to set up and I did another push. Six does and fawns were headed right for Mr Perfect but scooted wide left. The rest of the day was spent BS'ing, eating, laughing, and shivering 'til dark without another encounter.
Fantastic day!
Hunted Blue Marsh hard ever day this week. Bumped one and got busted by a couple. Back at it again tomorrow.
I have been hunting public land here in the mountains and have not seen a deer since last week. New rubs seems like everyday but can't seem to see the deer. Slept in this morning going out around 10:00 till dark. I hope to at least see something. Hunting these mountains is a whole new ball game for me but at least I am not seeing other hunters either. Thousands of acres all to myself. Laurel highlands mountains.
Good luck Lonewolfe. Way to stay after them
Good luck to everyone today. From what I've heard and seen the big boys are definitely on their feet.
Well I finally seen nine does. And nothing in pursuit of them. Now its off to a nephews wedding.....
Well here we are making the final stand from his blind. He's got the doe, but now wants "the buck"......Wish us luck and we'll do the same for you. :)
Saw lots of deer along 79 on our way to West VA. Got our stands up and we will be hunting Sunday morning. Good sign in our spots. Tracks thru the snow, recent rubs and scrape activity.

I'm waiting for some last day buck pics! Must of been a pretty good day. Two buddies of mine have called tonight. One killed a 10pt at 3:40 this evening and the other a 7pt at 4:45.
Saw 10-12 deer tonight, 6 does crossed field with a limping big buck bringing up the rear. Believe they crossed where I was setup last night. Tried calling no luck. At 5:05 4-6 more came up trail about 100 yds in front of me. Nothing came close enough but it was a good evening in the woods at Blue Marsh.
NADA!!.......Roy's new flooring in the house looks spectacular, btw. Good job, 'ol boy. :)
terrible day for me today and yesterday. No deer movment at all, nothing seen.
Saw one deer around 4:00 could not tell what it was. I have a lot to learn about these mountains before next year! Going out this morning and do a little walking around maybe I will start putting some pieces to the puzzle together.
Finally... all the deer hunters are gone, now I can do some serious small game hunting without the intrusions :^)
That funny Jeff. I spent the last week of the season small game hunting. I did try and steer clear of archers on stand though.
Jeff, LMAO.....Jr' is super pumped to get in to some serious skeerlin'. We bought him a new CZ double deuce bolt gun last Christmas. Can't wait to watch him pick a few off. Hey, maybe he'll even let the old man plink one. :)
As I read it, in certain zones particularly 2B, I can continue to bow hunt does? And buck opens up again Dec. 26th? I'm bucked out just wondering. Is that right?
Shot this one Saturday at 8 am
Congrats 4406v! Nice buck and picture!
Great buck and Mopar rules!
