RATE YOUR BOW SEASON

This is just for fun, With bow season over for the most part, rate your season I will give mine a 7 , on scale of 1 worst and ten being best,
All bow seasons are great. Harvested a bear and two does. Didn't see a buck over a six point. For me bow season is about having the restraint to pass on small bucks so I don't even get excited when they are near. However, my heart gets pumping when I am about to pull back on a yummy doe. Yum.
Season started very slow even though I was hunting in places where I later had many deer sightings. I had over fifity hours on stand and had only seen 6 or so deer. Then one November Saturday came into play and I got to see eleven. Seem that broke the spell and i started to see deer regularly.
I'll give it a six on 1-10.
I give my bow season a 10. I never fired a shot, passed on several small ones, bucks and does both. Spent some great time in the woods and enjoyed every minute of it. Worked really hard putting up stands and scouting and had some great bucks on camera. They just didn't show up. The best thing about my season was that I had a knee replaced in February and I was able to get around so much better this year. I thank God for the opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors he created. Good luck to everyone the rest of the season.
My bow season has so far been a 9. It could have only been a 10 if I'd killed a buck bigger than the one I killed last year. My girlfriend got her first deer ever. It was a 1 1/2 year old (would have been a 4 point) with one side broken off. I killed 2 does, the second one as big of a deer as I've ever killed, she was huge. (See 2014 Meat pole thread.) And my brother scored on a big doe as well. But, bow season isn't over yet. Not 'till Dec 31st. Nobody else hunts black powder where I hunt, and there's no doe season in southern Fayette Co. So after the orange army invasion, it's back to bow season for me. There's a nice 8 point being see in the area, that's the one I'll hold out for, or eat this last tag.
It was a terrible season!!!! Did not spend enough time in the woods or treestand!!! Of course I will say that even if I only miss one day of the season! LOL
Even if I only had one day to hunt during the season I would be thankful to the good Lord above for allowing me to experience it!
I saw plenty of deer (about half a dozen really nice bucks) and turkey - not too many squirrels. My only downfall of the season so far has been not seeing the bear that has been roaming around here.
Had to come back and edit my post because I did not follow the rules very good and post a number - bow season always rates a 10 for me.....
10... enjoyed every minute of it. Took a doe and an eight point. Passed up 11 other bucks and seen a couple I would like to have had a little closer.
I HATE this time of year. Although I will continue hunting with my recurve, it won't be the same after the orange army invades.
Be careful out there... be safe!
Will rate my bow season on jan 1st
A big fat 0
Because of health problems I haven't been able to bowhunt a single day.
Sorry about your health Gobbler, hope it gets better for turkey season. Didn't know you was sick. Get better fast.
10....put the bow down for big part of season and took my 2 boys squirrel hunting. Lord willing my oldest will be introduced to bow hunting next year. Santa is going to help make that happen
Gobbler i pray your health returns soon!
Tell ya Jan 1. Late season is good around here. So far so good though.
bow season ain't over yet. So far it's been hard but enjoyable. Hard because of the Achilles surgery and hunting in a walking boot but enjoyable because I get to spend time in the woods and see what God has created. Gobbler get well soon hope everything is ok.
1.0 hunted second Saturday for 1/2 day, to exhausted to hunt the afternoon, had to have open heart valve replacement surgery on Oct. 14, might get some late season hunts in, just have to wait and see.
Thanks guys , I appreciate it.
UCMdeer. Praying for you to feel better to chase whitetail soon. Neat handle
A 10, saw the most bucks i have ever seen in bow season!
2 (also the average deer sighting every time I've been out and no shot opportunities)...but like others have said not over until 12/31.
I may be done for the year, down in my back again.
10 for me. I was lucky enough to take a P&Y in WV and Ohio. I shot one this week in TX that would have made it in but broken tines will keep him out.
Babysaph, I agree but the scale only went to 10.
My bow season could have been an 8 or a 6 but it turned out to be a minus 10. The season started a bit slow, not many deer of either sex seen. Finally toward the end of October I finally got a shot at a nice spike, the hit was high (spine) and the death was slow, it took a second shot. All hunters hate that including me. About ten days later I got a shot at a nice 8 point and I took it, the only problem was I was unaware of the law change and the fact that I needed to shoot a doe before shooting another buck. When you're dumb you suffer. I was talking to a friend the day after taking the second buck and he told me that I was required to take a doe before taking the second buck, I was shocked and devastated. I am 67 years old (no excuse) and I have never committed a game law violation (that I know of) and I know that ignorance is no excuse. I called my local wildlife management and reported what I had done and then I paid the price of stupidity. I feel very fortunate that I am still healthy enough to continue to enjoy this sport that I love so much and I hope I can get a few more years out of it. During my younger years of hunting, since I was around 11, the regulations didn't change much from year to year, now they do. Read your hunting regulations and keep your bow hunting a 10!!!
Well, you may think your season turned out badly, but I think your actions and taking responsibility of your mistake deserves a 10+.
Everybody makes mistakes but the true test of a person is how he handles his mistakes. You could have tried to keep it a secret or you could have tried to lie about it but you chose the high ground. I'm sorry that it happenned to you, but I salute your response to it.
1---- just because I get to somewhat enjoy nature I don't like urban hunting. Land owner wants them gone yet the lady who lives in an old house down the road, and doesn't take care of her yard likes the deer and goes on walks just to keep deer from making it in the yard I hunt till after dark. yet the constant rifle barrage by the horse fields doesn't help either.
I guess I have to give it a 10. I tagged out, killing 7 urban deer and filling my WV tag.
I shot five does, two spikes and the biggest 3-1/2 year old 4 point you ever saw. Should have been a big six, but he lacked brow tines.
Freezer is full; life is good.
bow seasons always a 10 for me, got two tags left and still a lot of season left to go sit in a tree
Wow Bohunter most guys wouldn't have done that.
I know, I'm still impressed. I don't know who you are but you appear to be a person of integrity and honor. We all can learn a lesson . After you realized your mistake you accepted responsibity, you didn't try to blame the DNR or the regulations. I've heard stories where people have tried to blame regulations or even tried to lie to officers when questioned about the same thing. To me that shows a lack of integrity and an attempt to put the blame on someone else rather than accepting the fact that they are the one that broke the law. That's one of the things that is affecting our society, trying to shift blame for everything to someone or something else rather than looking in the mirror to see who really is to blame.
You owned your mistake and took steps to right the situation . In my opinion, that is the definition of a true sportsman! For that, I respect you and hope that the rest of your hunting seasons are 10s.
Gobbler
Totally agree with ya gobbler - we all make mistakes - true man stands up and takes responsibility for what he did!!! Sorry for you it was a hard learned lesson!
8.... So far! Seen a lot of deer and some great bucks this year, but it's not over yet as others have said!
You are a true sportsman Bohunter, anyone can make a mistake but doing the right thing is what makes a person the real deal. Sorry for your mistake but thanks for your honesty .
