So yesterday while I was in the woods in the rain after I couldn't take it anymore I decided to go for a walk and check a new area across the st from where I'm at so I grab one of my hang on stands and walk in well found some great sign and leaned my stand up against a good tree that is pretty much the only one in the area that I could put one in left it there against the tree pretty well hidden and hang a camera well go back this afternoon with my son to hang the stand and yup u guessed it gone well the scum bag didn't see my camera and yes if ur on this site dude I have 9 pictures of u doing it sad part is he's and older guy I'd say late 50s from the pics total scum bag so should I bring this to authorities guys or wait and catch this piece of garbage on my own. This is in the Mansfield bow area only. If I catch this dude it's gonna be really ugly really fast
turn him in bud...as much as i would like to say beat the crap out of him,it aint worth it..post a pic for ha ha's...maybe itll "shame him" like obama says.
Let DEEP know. They wouldn't mind getting a case with a good lead.
Post picks maybe someone on site can help
Matt,
I would definitely turn this over the the CT DEEP. If you were able to confront this person and it got ugly you might wind up with more legal hassles than anyone ever needs.
I can understand what you're feeling but spare yourself any potential headaches and let LE do their job. If someone here recognizes the guy I'd still go to LE and let them handle it.
Good luck!
So thats what a scumbag looks like. Wonder if hes a hunter or not? Turn him in Heartshot. It amazes me on how many of them are out there, never ending.
Definately not was I was expecting either guys I figured maybe some kids or what have u but this dude really wow what a loser I'm so pissed I'm turning him in tmrw
Is he carrying a sidearm?
Wearing orange on a Sunday?
HS, turn his sorry ass in!! No sympathy for scumbags!!!
Total scumbag sorry that happened to you dude. I just can't believe somebody would take something that doesn't belong to them it's just unreal what a low life. I havnt had anything g stolen yet but I know it's a matter of time. It's sad that there is people like that it's too bad.
Rix I believe that is a cellphone bud went through the other pictures and that's what it looks like to me Grizz I thought the same thing figured maybe a anti at first but then looked at the boots the hat and gloves hes just a piece of garbage
What a dirtbag! I hate people who steel anything but a tree stand thief is the worst. Strange looking dude. Maybe check the local looney bin see if anyone escaped.
My 10 yr old son is even more pissed then me asked me a ton of questions. Had to explain to him that people are who they are and that feeling u have in ur stomach right now is how someone else would feel if u took there stuff in the end it's a great learning experience for him but man I'm doing everything I can to bite my tongue and try to show him and teach him the right way to handle it believe me I wanna catch this dude myself cause if I do it'll be the worst case scenario for this scumbag but it have to do the right thing and turn him in if I can at least catch one of them it's one less for all of us guys that put our time in and do what we love. I just hope deep will do something about it cause I don't have a lot of faith in those guys as of late
Hey heartshot...quick question as my wife brings up a good point. The stand you put there, everyone with a conscious who is a decent person would agree that it is not theirs and it is yours. However, I am not sure the guy can get in trouble legally because he can technically say he found it, someone lost it or left it, etc as it is not on private property and just in the woods. Can he really get in trouble for picking up a piece of metal in the woods? Did you have your name on it or a sign attached saying private property of heartshot? Otherwise I don't know if he can really get in trouble, although I would like to see people like that be punished for taking what is not theirs. In my eyes and all above, it is stealing, but maybe the "law" may not see it as that. Good luck with it anyhow. Glad you did get pics of the scum though! Good move putting that camera up. Sorry your son was disappointed.
With the orange vest on a sunday it makes me think hes not a hunter. A hunter would know he wouldnt need one on sunday.
I would definitely notify the authorities, but if see him I would have words with him. I know there's no excuse for him taking it but why did you leave it there without locking it up, unless you did and didn't say. You can't trust anyone unfortunately you got to lock things up,may not stop them but will slow them down. sorry for your misfortune.
"pretty well hidden" - really?
Wild bill def not the tree so REALLY no... If u look u can see he is looking at the pine tree that is in front of that tree u can see the branches and yes it was hidden.. DK my wife said the same thing as for leaving it unlocked bud yah that's my bad I was in there in the pouring rain and had planned on going back this morning ended up having to do family stuff and couldn't get there till this afternoon. I agree bud not much I can do live and learn hope I don't see him honestly at this point cause it will get ugly
leave his photo In a clear plastic bag and tie it to the tree leave A note that says put the stand back I know who you are !
HS
sorry to hear about the stand, and I agree that anyone who takes something that's not theirs is a scumbag. I would first ask the police if anyone turned in a treestand that they found in the woods ,.....give him the benefit of doubt first. If they say no, then tell them about the incident.
I have to agree with someone how stated that legally he may not be in trouble, and that sucks. If he's a hunter, he knows some of us leave our stands in the woods to avoid carrying it in each time. If he's not a hunter he could be against hunting and wanted to screw with you.
Either way it sucks.
Good idea Steve, also, go back next Sunday, he may be back in woods
Good luck getting your stand back. Some people are just a holes .I have had lots of stuff taken out of the back of my pick up its never fun.
You know with social media craigs list postings etc. You post those pics and I'm thinking someone knows the guy. As for the orange thing. I wear orange on Sunday when I'm scouting. There are people who break the law and hunt Sundays too just like people stealing stands. They are one ones most likely to shoot bushes moving.
hunt him and put a beat DOWN on the POS
"Older Guy"...my time on this world must be short, if he is old.
He's a thief, plain and simple. I say call the cops and wait on his sorry ass again and give his ass the beat down he deserves. I leave my climber in the woods also, but I lock mine up.
Older guy meaning I honestly thought maybe a couple if kids took it thought there would be a little more respect out of the older generations I turn 40 this yr it's just sad and I hope my son has learned a lot of valuable lessons this yr in the end of it all I shouldn't have left it unlocked or even in there reality is reality and this dude is just a dirt bag I've walked by countless stands and walk the other way so that I don't disturb there spot just me I guess I would never take another guys stand in the air or on the ground doent matter just wouldn't do it
I'll be 64 on the 28th of this month, so he looks like a kid to me. :)
I'd print up a bunch of Wanted Posters and hang them around town.. Someone has got to know this guy. If this guy sees his picture with a big WANTED above it, maybe he'd learn a lesson.
ill be 54 on the 23 ,so he looks about my age..but im kinda cooked..lol
how did you make out with this bud ?
Words from a cop buddy (No way u can prove that it is ur stand unless u have either ur name on it or some form of a serial number in the end it just isn't worth it. There is no doubt in my mind that it is ur stand but it's the proof on the stand itself) I guess mine and DK's wife were right on the money on this one. Chalk it up as a lesson learned for my kids and a strong lesson it is. Just gonna keep it moving at this point. The dude better hope I don't see him is all I'm saying at this point. I'll be back at it again this weekend and maybe after this storm passes. not gonna go in that area and stick to the other side of the street for now. Just been a rough season again this yr at this point. But I will never stop trying I love it to much and maybe I'll get lucky by the end of the season. Thanks for all the replies guys helped me alot
that sucks bud , but I guess in the eyes of the law...
I would still do what Steve said and leave a note on the tree. Also set a couple little posters up in the general neighborhood saying stolen stand. Thanks for ruining my hunt with my son. Karma will get this prick, hopefully sooner than later.
Put his pic on the tree or parking area, saying I know who you are, theif
Something learned, mark your stands, even a center punch with some pricks some place to mark it number punches are better if you have them .
Also after marking your stand take a cell phone photo of it for proof that it's your stand. I also would put up photos. Maybe he has a private spot to hunt and the property owner sees it. Now he looses his hunting spot. Ask where you buy your lic if they can post the photo.
Quit your complaining, it's state land so it's a free for all.
