Over the years I've gun hunted there often. Where was the bow only area?

Roraback has always been bowhunting only. Shotgun for upland game was also allowed but never for deer

You could hunt small game with a shot gun or 22, turkey and birds with a shot gun but deer as said above was always bow hunting only. Roaraback was my go to spot during the gun season. Opening it up to shot gun will ruin it for late season bow hunts. By the time December 24th rolls around all the deer will be run off the property onto private land like Mattatuck State Forest. Not cool man!

Bristol Fish and Game stocks the watershed land that borders Roraback along RT72 and all the hunters come in from 72, they did a good job pushing the deer to the west of 72. But if you get the gun deer hunters in there I would hate to think what could happen to the deer. I think the deer will find quieter places once the gunners come in as someone already said.

Did see it in the Lottery A&B????? They're a mess up there in Hartford! Only way to really know for sure is to call the DEEP.

I called. And the guide is correct it will be open for lottery and muzzleloader. So no more archery during gun season. They said the hunting review board said it could handle gun hunting. I think they are just opening it up for permit revenue. There is alot of horse traffic on the trails. I told the man its a bad idea and hope no accident happens.

Had to be one of if not the largest bow hunting only property's in CT.. It's a shame and hate to see it hammered by gun hunting. I hunt with fire arms also so I'm not apposed to fire arm hunting but having large areas that are bow hunting only give you a big woods type area to hunt that for the most part isn't pressured to the extent as state land that the deer are gun hunted. It's too bad.
