When the Sticks crew created the December 2014 shoot thread, we invited all of you to start your winter in a "Strictly Sticks" kind of way. Little did we know we would be tempting the weather-fates like we did!
But, as Churchill said: "Keep Calm and Carry On".
We're going to change that: "Keep Warm and Carry Your Bow". And arrows. Maybe a few extra.......
Here's how:
On Sunday, January 18, 2015, it's the Annual "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers HAM SHOOT", the only real time where the points DO MATTER!
HAMS...the juicy, roasting-pan kind, (not the grumpy neighbor with the radio tower on his roof kind) will be awarded to the Archers with the 1st and 2nd highest scores, based on turned-in scorecards. A 3rd HAM will be awarded in a random/chance drawing of all other turned-in scorecards, even if the card (or slip of paper) only has a name and no recorded score.
So, get out those winter muck boots, and find that extra Woolrich layer to wear. The snows that came the last few days will probably NOT be gone by the 18th, but the quietness offered by the snow-covered hills WILL still be here. Except, of course, for the cheers, or groans (your choice) from you and your friends!
The crew will be setting up the course Saturday, Jan. 17th. We'll choose a path that will challenge, but we will keep in mind any potential weather-related safety issues.
If you have nothing else going on on Jan. 18, and just feel like getting outside with your bow, and the friends you enjoy seeing, JOIN US!
We call it "Bow Therapy"...!
The course and kitchen will open around 8 AM, and shooting will continue until 1 PM.
Around 1 PM, we will tally the scorecards, determine the 1st and 2nd highest scores, and present the HAM awards. Then, we will award the random HAM. If you feel your score was pretty good, please consider staying until the end. That way, if you do win, you can take the HAM home with you, and savor your victory for the next dinner, plus leftovers.
And for new Archers or folks bringing new Archers or first-time Sticks participants: NO ONE IS EVER OBLIGATED to participate in the HAM Shoot contest. It's just our way of doing something different during January! If all you want to do is shoot for fun, PLEASE DO SO! A piece of paper, or an empty scorecard with just your name, simply could help you win a token of our thanks for your participation!
As always, the building will be warm inside, with plenty of space to BS and prepare for the course, then warm-up afterwards. The Trade/Sell/Swap tables will be set up, too, and are OPEN FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS TO BRING ARCHERY-RELATED ITEMS they may wish to trade or sell. And the costs for 2015 haven't changed, it's still $10 for ages 17 or older, $10; $5 for ages 12-16; FREE for Archers ages 11 and younger.
If we all can get through January, with the help of our friends with bows, the rest of the year could be quite promising. And for the Sticks events, hopefully worth your time and effort to join us.
See you Sunday, January 18th!
And: THANK YOU! ***** "Strictly Sticks": 286 Sportsmens Road, Alverton, PA 15612, for your GPS heading. Questions or comments? Ask them here, or through our email at [email protected] , or on our Facebook page "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers" .
Even RC....
It's like that "Forest Gump" box of choc-o-lates: you never know who will come to shoot!
See you Sunday, Flatlander!
The course is set up...19 targets clubhouse side, 11 across Nuclear Creek.
A course set up to allow for some very good shooting, if folks so desire.
So, from the Sticks Crew:
"Let the HAM Games Begin! And may the odds be ever in your favor!!"
See you all in the morn!
Thanks SS crew!
Thank you to the 56 registered Archers and various friends and family who attended today’s “Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers” HAM Shoot.
Though the weather changed throughout the morning, it did not really affect the spirits of today’s Archers, at least as we could tell. 19 targets set up clubhouse side, and 11 across Nuclear Creek were the offerings encountered. And yes, we heard cheers, and a few un-cheers, depending on what you hit, and what you intended to hit.
Of the turned-in scorecards, our First Place HAM went to Scott Craig, with a score of 267. The Second Place HAM went to Aaron Koons, with a score of 255. And, for the random HAM award, that went to Cindy Hildenbrand!
To our winners: the HAMS will be kept in the clubhouse freezer until we see you again, which hopefully will be soon. If after a really long time, we don’t see you or hear from you, well…the HAMS may go away……!!
Our thanks to EVERYONE who made this a really great shoot! Hope to see you February 15, for more “Strictly Sticks” fun!
Signed, THE CREW
PS: A quiver and arrows were left at the club. Randy, the registration guy, has them, so if you are the owner, or know who it may be, contact us through this thread or via the Facebook page.
PSS: MARK YOUR CALENDARS: THE 2-DAY SHOOT WILL BE SEPTEMBER 19-20, 2015 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, this is what I can do: I stopped at the Shop'N'Save after the shoot, and bought a pound of chipped honey-baked ham, for my lunches at work. I would be willing to make a sandwich for you, using plain white bread, then I'd wrap it in wax paper, then put it in a small box. Next, I'd take it to the post office, and mail it to you as a non-machinable/non-automation/non-priority Parcel. It would go from Greensburg, to Pittsburgh, to Johnstown, to your post office, and then finally to you. It might take a week or so.
Would that suffice as a token of MY appreciation for your HAM good shooting efforts??!!
Or I could meet you in downtown Greensburg, and just hand you my lunch sometime this week.....
Your choice. A perfect choice could be yours....
