anyone actively targeting coyotes?
i have never done it but am thinking about it.
if you are hunting coyotes what is your set up?
what kind of call?
archery? shotgun? rifle?
any good public land opportunities in the lower tier?
or in the ADKs?

I hunt them quite a bit.For places where cover is heavy I use a Mossberg 835 12 gauge loaded with 3" 4 buck or 3" plated BB's.In areas more open I bring my CZ 527 American in .223 with 55gr bullet's.I use a few plastic reed calls like the Tally-Ho Primos Catnip Lohman Howler etc.Always bring a single or double reed mouth diaphragm. It's becoming my favorite form of hunting.Even moreso than deer and turkey hunting.Well maybe not bowhunting deer yet but it's getting there.

Your either going to love it or hate it depending on how much patience you have. You could call one in on the first day or the fifteenth day. Took me a bunch of days to see one when I first started. But since ive called in a bunch and have also taken a bobcat here in MA. Dont expect it to be like a western hunt on tv as these eastern coyotes are less abundant and when hunting them in thick cover they will circle you and you may never see them. Give a mouth call a try first before investing in e caller. Ive acrually had better luck with my mouth call. During daylight hours you may have better luck hitting thick woods then open fields. Just find alot of tracks in the snow and give it a try. Dont expect great results at first as you could go ten sets with nothing then on the eleventh here comes one. Its a blast though when it finally happens, one great encounter and you will be hooked. Good luck

any advice on what makes a good setup? like what to look for on google earth?
is it reasonable to think i could just head to the catskills or ADKs and hike in, take a seat, and start calling?

Laughingwater, find some tracks in the snow and start calling. Get up walk a few hundred yards and call again. Just takes persistance. Look for thick areas with rabbits and mice.
