Instead of going to the gym for a noontime workout, I went for a hike on some public grounds in southern Lancaster County. Lots of tracks for deer, foxes, some yotes. And also this track. I think it is a bear but wanted to get your opinion. It was cool to find, single animal. I got to thinking that said bear must be hungry if moving out of den with the cold temperatures. Glad we did not meet in person. Your thoughts on ID: bear?

Yeah, they come out of hibernation more than you would think! We tend to think of bears as true hibernators which they are not. Most come out of their dens every couple weeks. Got that from a WCO in Pike Co. that used to trap lots of em and had many radio collared every year that he kept track of.

A few years ago I saw one cross the road mid-morning on a rainy January day.

So Chuck, you think a breeding bear population in Lancaster County would be good? About as much good as one in Pittsburgh.

Not my job to think about breeding bear populations.

I agree Perry. Bears should be open in any deer season there.
