I heard this is a bill to have a crossbow season of its own and not to be included in bow season. If so for myself I hope it passes before they just lump them into bow season.

Well that is what I was asking the other day. If it is not in the regular bow season wonder where they would put it. I would almost thing it would have to be in the general bow season because guy are not going to use a compound when they can use a gun. Also if in the regular season they probably wouldn't be able to charge a fee.

It'll be in the regular bow season or they are going to take bow time and give it to the crossbows. Just my opinion. God Bless

Similar to HB 2143 that was already introduced and also HB 2144.
See what I mean. Why do they need so many bills...to keep things confusing and then slip something thru.
IMO, if there ever is an Xgun season, the season should be set by the Natural Resources Commission and length of season and bag limits set according to the effectiveness of the weapon...the same as every other weapon/season.

I agree with Wv Mountaineer. If they create a season just for them it will take away from our current archery season. Definitely wont be the gun hunters that lose time in the woods. I say if it becomes legal put them in archery season and make it an option when checking in animals for crossbow kills. Then you can see what is taken with what.

That is already on the check tag. DNR has been counting the kills for at least 4 years.

Several ways to look at it - I think if they create a crossbow season it would just be like muzzleloading season and run concurrent with bow season. If they are included during bow season - then like JR said they lose an opportunity to create another stamp and more revenue. And if anything will shorten our season it will be if harvest numbers go up - once they include crossbows into bow season they won't remove them (sort of like taxes) and then our season will be shorten and tags decreased.

Or they could just allow them to hunt in the regular bow season and make them buy a stamp. At least then we will know it's all about the money.

Exactly why the season length and bag limits need to be determined by DNR and not legislation.

Deer harvest will likely not go up by allowing cross bows. At least it didn't in PA. A modern Compound is much more capable than a crossbow to be deadly at longer ranges. With that said, what's the problem with just letting the people who want to hunt with one in bow season do so without extra cost and/or an extra season? God Bless
