We all have our Bowhunting Hero's, Fred Bear, Howard Hill, Ben Pearson, guys of Old that Bowhunted not for the money but for the Love of Bowhunting and Archery ! There are some well known bowhunters today that Surely have accomplished much and killed many animals but They will never take the place of Bowhunters of Old !
I would like to hear from YOU, guys you KNOW are REAL BOWHUNTERS in the WVBA, guys that are Ethical and hunt the RIGHT WAY, I also mean GUYS that know and KILL lots of animals, guys that when they have nothing in season to hunt will shoot mice , ground squirrels and groundhogs. Guys that are Killers, THAT YOU KNOW IN A PINCH THEY CAN get the job done, GUYS , I AINT TALKING ABOUT GUYS THAT HAVE KILLED A HANDFUL OF ANIMALS---I know a few and they are, # 1 and # 2 is a toss up between Bill Mason and JR chambers, would give the nod to JR because I have spent a good amount of time with him, # 3 Steve Davis, # 4 Lonnie Sneed Jr, #5 Al Smith supprised ? You guys should see His trophy room, and last , started not to mention him with these other guys but, because HE IS A young gun, BUT, He is a Killer, and MAKES MY BOOK ! # 6 JW CASTO,
No particular order, Greg Dearth, Bill Mason, Ron Miller, Norman Farley, Al Smith. They all are very good bow hunters.
Ron, I was just up at Al's place yesterday and got to see his trophy room pictured above. Very impressive. We do have some outstanding guys in our midst. Good guys all.
Thanks for the compliment Ron. You know I love to bowhunt and I think that is why you can I got along and had a great time doing it.
And there are some great hunters in the WVBA. Lots of guys that hunt for the love of hunting. I have been fortunate to have gone hunting in a lot of places but my favorite is just hunting deer at my cabin in WV. Nothing like it. You don't have to go to exotic places to love hunting or be a good hunter. I am learning to be a better whitetail hunter. They are tough.
Greg Burnette, Stacy Grosscup archery legend,,Lonnie Sneed hunter, great cook for sure if he weren't so ugly and fart so much ,, Marc Fox hunter and bowyer,,Mike Persinger one of the best shots with a stick bow I know ,and one fellow that consistently kills big WV white tail you don't hear much about cause he don't do talk about it is Clifford Bennett from Summersville he kills them the hard way solo, no guides, boot leather,,,Bowyer, artist and hunter Art Butner from Lansing in Fayette county,,, I feel some of the most seasoned hunters in the world...any of you guys remember a couple of local fayette county boys Jim Keyser and Jake Howell them two were the closest thing to Howard Hill I ever met,, they hunted the Hard Way could kill a deer carp or mice or bust aspirin almost as well as Stacy Grosscup
JW's buck is totally awesome!!
Lots of Good Bowhunters---Lots Of boyers, lots of good shots, but I am not talking about Gun - do a little bowhunting , or Men involved in Archery all their lives, I am talking about BONAFIDE KILLERS with a bow and arrow ! They are Far and Few between.
God bless ya
Oops.. sorry I with draw all my nominee's. ..not enough hard core killer instinct...mine are just plain ol hard core bowhunters...I missed the mark on standards...sorry I misread ur post ...my bad
Nothing Wrong with Standards, the Guys I mentioned ALL have High Standards.
God bless ya
I'm speechless that I made the list. I am so glad that my youth and inexperience wasn't counted against me. It is a privilege to be mentioned in the company of those fellows. Here are a few guys that come to my mind, My hero Bill Mason and his twin brother Steve Davis, Al "Biggy" Smith, Frank Boggess, Ronny Williams from Maryland, Mike Parrish, Bill Stephens, Dr. J.R., and last but not least Ron Miller himself. I almost forgot the man that I have seen shoot more arrows at game than anyone else, Greg Dearth. If Greg could shoot he would probably top all lists that we could come up with. Remember the Jack Rabbits Greg?
I thought the same thing JW----if HE could just shoot A LITTLE ! LOL
I wouldn’t disagree with any of the killer/bowhunters that’s been mentioned. In all honesty though, I know one guy who would top my list, if we’re talking about an accomplished bowhunter who loves to kill things.
I’ve seen this guy, while enduring excruciating pain due to hernia, a hip needing replaced, and rotator cuffs in both shoulders that need repaired, get almost glassy-eyed, and watched as his mind overcame it all. I marveled as he would literally run to the dogs while having a pig bayed deep in the Florida swamp; reminiscent of an Olympic sprinter chasing the gold. I’ve listened as he hyperventilated while drawing his bow, full of anticipation that his razor-sharp broadhead would takeout the lungs of the wild beast—almost becoming animal-like himself. All this from a guy who had so much pain, he couldn’t even put on his socks by himself—or so he said.
Yes sir, I give the nod to the greatest “killer” I know to the SAVANT, the GOVERNER, that spike killer and trapper extraordinaire (not counting the Husky that almost ate him alive, of course), Ron Miller.
I will throw George Coleman into the mix. He helped me put things together to become a better bowhunter and he consistently kills critters.
