My buddy tapped 206 on Saturday. Started flowing today. He makes the first collection in the morning. Hoping for 300-400 gallons. With no snow, the frost is deep but it's now game on for the sap run.

I have a hundred taps out. This morning I only got 20 gallons of sap. Probably tomorrow (today if you are further south than Eau Claire)

Our family loves real maple syrup, always get a couple jars from friends, but looking to buy even more. If anyone knows someone who makes good stuff for a fair price within 30 minutes of Green Bay, please let me know via PM!

I tap 200 trees in Monroe County, pretty quiet today. Only a few trees even running as of 3:00 this afternoon. It may bust open tomorrow, I would think Thursday at the latest. We shall see.
Naz, if you don't find anyone close by let me know. My brother lives in De Pere and he would be happy to deliver. BC

BC, I go to/through GB typically once a week to 10 days or so, and would be glad to meet him depending on cost, of course! Any idea what he charges and what sizes he offers?

If you have never had maple butter you should try it. Google the concoction...you won't regret it. Sap run is still slow at best. Never the best when there's ice in the buckets. Soon. If you are wondering what this has to do with bowhunting...nothing, the same as crossbows and politics.

This is a cool thread LC. It pertains to the outdoors and another good the outdoors holds for us. The resident thread moderator/whiner is no longer with us so one need not worry anymore.

First collection this morning. 105 gallons for 206 taps. The neighbor had 465 gallons for 1,000 taps. Ground is still froze solid, no snow in the woods. Averaging 1/2 gallon per tap. The SW facing taps did the best.Tested 2.1%, last year it was 3.4%.

I have the wood piled a couple dozen taps out BUT I fell and separated my shoulder, So can't lift my arm. I might have to pull my taps. Doc. says it will be hard on it. I don't make a lot several gallons of robust camp syrup.

Got the last of my taps in this morning. Sure get tired doing it after working a 6pm to 6am shift then heading out to the woods. Trees are starting to flow but slow to drip. Should be better in the next few days. Thinking of tapping birch trees as well and making birch syrup. Sugar content is lower this year from last. In Portage Co.

I would like to do it but know nothing of it. Have several maples by the house. Could easily run lines into a drum as they are mostly all on a slope and avoid buckets or bags.

I live in Fremont,I took the taps out of the trees today,Wife says I cannot do it,shoulder is pretty bad. My kids offered to come and help but it can be an 18 hr. job, although fun I can't take the chance and screw up the shoulder worse than it is. Fishing season is coming.

I have about 2 gallons of syrup and hopefully 5 more to come. I currently have some sort of lung infection going that is really kicking my butt. Been on steroids for a couple of days but there is work to be done.

I have a friend that has about 400 trees on his property all hooked up with vaccuum lines that flow into his shack with multiple boilers. He also has some kind of seperator that seperates a lot of the water before the boiling starts??? He makes a lot of syrup every year!
