A week ago this little island was connected by a narrow spit of land to the bank. It was 2 feet wide, a foot above the water level and dry to walk on. The geese always have a nest on it. It is actually a beaver den.

In just one week the beaver have filled in the leaks on the old dam and the water raised up enough to flood over the little isthmus.

I walked out on dry land and jammed this stick into the ground a week ago.

This is the dam the beavers built a long time ago. About 12 years ago, after a bad winter and spring it sprung a leak. I filled in some holes with big rocks and some of the old building tiles you see here. It sprang a leak after some heavy melt off and rain again this spring. I didn't knoe the beaver were back until recently and I wondered if they would start working on the dam.

They did as I found out this morning. Filled it back in with mud and sticks. Pretty amazing what a couple of these little critters can do.

Quite a few deer have fallen around here over the years. (Just in case anybody wonders what this has to do with bow hunting.) LOL.

We have a back dirt road near here with a 100 yard dam along it and the water level is 7 feet above the road bed.
I have also seen the beavers knock out a dam when they move down stream and start over because they have depleted the kind of wood they like best.

Thursday evening Kathy and I caught 3 different kinds of fish, watched 2 beavers, 2 adult geese and their 6 kids, a snapping turtle, and, had a deer snorting at us from about 50 yards away.

The beavers have been hard at work this past 4 weeks. The old beaver house is almost under water. Looks like the pond is 2 feet deeper.
