I have checked out all the interweb reviews and you tube videos on this bow and I am very happy with my purchase. My Other hunting Bow is a 1991 PSE Elite that is very worn. I bought it new when I was 14 and have been shooting it since. I have never shot with a release or peep sight or anything more than a peel and stick arrow rest, so this "new" bow is very high tec for me.
I have learned how to change the draw length and now know how to tie a D loop for the release. Both things I still need to do. I 'm am having trouble with the peep sight . I understand how to set the height of the peep which I will do once I set the proper draw length. The problem I'm having is the peep sight doesn't turn enough to be square to my eye when I draw. The tube that is suppose to straiten it is there , but it still needs to turn about 15 more degrees to be square to my eye.
I'm expecting many answers to be " Visit your local bow Shop and they will set you up " I'm not interested in help from a Proshop. doing every thing myself is part of what I enjoy about huntin, Motorcycles, life. But I will take any advice on how to get my bow shooting strait.
I have a lot of work to do before I feel comfortable taking this bow into a tree. Many hours in the backyard range getting use to this release and pep sight style of shooting. any and all advice is welcome. evern if it's " you can't Do this your self . GET PROHELP" Thanks - Duncan
I'm guessing you don't have the black rubber tube going from the peep sight to the bow? The tube pulls the peep to the correct alignment when you draw back. If you do have it, then shorten it as Steve stated. Check the tube to make sure it's not old and cracked. It's cheap to replace and much better than having it break when you're pulling back on a deer.
You can also align a peep BEFORE installing it by sliding a small, thin blade screwdriver between the strands on the string where the peep would go, draw back and see if the screwdriver points straight forward and back (at your eye). You will need to move it a couple of times to get it placed between the strands of the string that allow the peep to be aligned at full draw. Once you find this location, spread the strands and insert the peep.
I would also suggest paper tuning the bow to make sure your rest and nock are also in the correct position and the arrows are shooting true.
Good luck!
Bring the bow to an archery shop and have them bring the bow back to manufacturer specs (ATA correct, draw length correct, etc.). Your string most likely stretched. Have them align the peep sight correctly. Make sure your rest and nocking pioint are set for a center shot.
You're going to need more arrows....at least half dozen more. Make sure the arrows you have (and the arrows you buy) are the correct spine and length. Make sure you get arrows with a helical on the fletching, as they help stabilize much better.
See what grain field points you have....and match your broadheads accordingly.
Once you do this you can tinker with your own set-up. But get it properly set-up first so you don't get hurt.
No amateur work beats that of a pro. Your accuracy is paramount, and while I respect your desire to be able to do things yourself (I am the same way), you will be able to do more with understanding from a pro.
2) We have to support our local pro shops or they will disappear and we will be left with just big-box suppliers. What a loss that would be.
3) You already made such a good deal on the bow package, throwing a little bit of money into the bow for tuning, accuracy and safety is a good investment.
Doc - you make so much sense I often wonder why we still try to screw things up on our own? I'm guilty of it!
