Just wondering who has an out state trip planned this fall? Where? When? First time there? If not, how good is the hunting? One of my co-workers just found you he group was picked for a moose hunt in ME. Sweet!
I'm not planning on anything this year so I need to live vicariously through those of you lucky enough to go.
im probably going to hell in a hand basket ,I think ill take the crazy train , not sure when or what its like but ill keep you posted ....lol
terminator
are you using a guide with one of those HIGH lift swamp buggies to drive you around? It's gotta a be a HOT hunt this time of the year!
I love hearing when guys take out their kids or someone else's, doesn't matter. Most rewarding thing in life is making memories that will last a life time! Way to go.
Heading back to Montana high in the mountains for archery elk in the middle of September. Been training for the last year getting ready.
Hope to sweat under the weight of a big hind-quarter strapped to my back.
Going to Maine on a guided rifle hunt
Colorado bow Elk hunt. First week of September.
Debating on CT or just spending Sept hunting for bear here in MA. Still trying for my first. May go on a deer hunt to NC in December but with my 308 and some reloads I just started making. Bag limit 5 deer and hogs if they show up. Good luck in FL terminator. Make sure you do a live hunt or post some pics!
Pennsylvania, I can apply for an antlerless tag the end of this month. I was in the area today and saw lots of fawns.
I got so far:
New Brunswick, CA - September Archery Bear Kentucky - Nov. Archery Illinois - Nov. Archery
I'm part of a camp in PA since the 70's. Going down in Oct to work on camp and get some bow hunting in, back down in Dec for rifle season
Hoping to drive my dog out to Minnesota and/or SD for pheasants.
What dog do you have toon?
My son and I are heading to Wyoming the first week of October. we will be hunting antelope on public land. this will be my second time out and his first. It's hard to tell who is more excited, him or me.
I have a black lab. I just put my yellow lab down a few weeks back. I really miss him, he was my best buddy. I took him to MN a couple of times to hunt wild birds with a friend of mine on public land. We didn't do great but killed a few, missed a bunch more. It keeps you honest after "hunting" dumb pen raised pheasants in CT.
Figure I owe it my current dog to show him what real bird hunting is at least a few times.
Vt for moose if I draw, Pa for elk if I draw. I will deer hunt in VT or NH and will also take my Brittanies for grouse and woodcock to Vt or NH depending on which state I buy a license in - maybe both!
Sorry to hear about yellow. It hurts to see them go. I have Rusty on the fireplace mantel. It's been over to years and I still miss him. Best dog I ever had.
This one has a brain short circuit.
Wtf?
That's not Kaiser. I don't know who that is and I don't have that pic in my phone. Don't doubt he has his wires mixed up but don't know him.
u keep an old dude as a pet ?
Thanks Crow. Here is a picture of Parker in 2005 on one of our pheasant hunts in Minnesota.
Heading to my newly acquired camp in stueben county ny
Texas for Nilgai,Deer, hogs, coyote and hopefully a bobcat in Novemeber or December, possibly NC for Deer in November. Lots of travel looking for Buck Norris!
Cool cabin drslyr, congrats.
I am looking to hunt our land in NY this year if it is not sold, love the Catskills. STM
Love the pictures of the dogs! Labs are just so love-able. Always happy and willing to please. Even a springer guy like me loves being around them. Sorry to hear about losing your best friend Toonces.
Gene - have you hunted elk in PA before? What's it like? I've been to New Mexico twice and dying to get back. Some big bulls. I'd love to hear what PA is like for elk.
BBB - I have not drawn a tag yet for PA. I have been applying for a long time and do have 12 preference points going into the draw this year. A few years ago my wife and I visited the elk area and what I saw was some rugged country. They only issue a small amount of tags. This year I think it is something like 27 bull tags and 80 cow tags. The success ratio on bulls for 2011,2012 and 2013 was 100%. Last year only one bull hunter did not fill his tag so the success ratio was 95% or so. If you visit the Pa Game Commission site, you can get all the info. Tomorrow is the VT moose draw where I only have 2 points but you never know.
I saw a segment on TV about the PA elk restoration effort, but know nothing about the process to hunt. Sounds really hard to get selected, and I'm too old to wait several year to build points :(
Thinking of a Colorado elk hunt in the future.
Take a look at the elk lottery in KY. They have an impressive herd and the lottery is 10 bucks a try. You can enter multiple chances.
spike
sounds like a real money maker for the state, kinda like the lottery. Increased your odds by betting high.
I have to add one more trip to my earlier post:
I just got drawn for Vermont MOOSE Archery in zone E1!
October 1-7
Steve,
you have to bring back the moose knee bones for me. I don't have moose knee bones yet and need a set.
No VT moose tag for me but I see that nehunter has drawn a tag for moose in VT. Congrats to him and I hope we can follow along on his hunt!
NE, I did the Archery Moose hunt in VT in 2013.. Back then I got to pick any zone I wanted, I chose to hunt in Southern VT due to less competition, closer to home, and I got to use the guide I wanted, who scouts and has a bunch of cameras out year round.
It's a great hunt, and the rut is going strong then. You should have a great time.
Congrats on the FL hunt, your daughter is racking up the animals thats for sure. Most people think of a 243 as a woman or kid round but its funny how impressive it really is on game.
New Mexico Mule deer hunt, public land unguided. Santa Rosa mountain in Cali, takes 90 min to drive to it from my house. Not many deer, low success but fun to camp and works out the legs.
Kansas in Nov. My second trip. Two years ago I scored a nice 10 point. Next year my first trip to southeast Iowa.
treesitter - any pics? Go with a guide?
Going non guided for a elk deer combo hunt for 2 weeks in montana In sept
Non guided for 10 days in maine in nov for big bucks
Bob I'm very blessed to have a supplier through business who owns property in Kansas. We have become friends and he has invited me to join him three times now. He has friends in the area through which he has access to some large tracts of land. Its open prairie with smaller pockets of juniper and oak. He has taken many bucks in the 160-180 class. My best was about 135 ish, but is dwarfed by what I've seen from a distance. We don't see alot of deer every time out but we have seen some very big bucks. Its really amazing country.
that's a nice buck and what a great set up to have a supplier who would do that for you. I'm not allowed to take gifts where I work, goes against company policy, so something like a free hunt is out of the question. Thanks for sharing.
Just my Typical deer hunting NJ trip and some waterfowl in NY and MD. Got a buddy in TN that wants me to come down and hunt as well.
