I am always curious to hear peoples opinions on deer scores. I know it is only July, and there are many variables etc... What do you think this deer ends up approx? 140s, 150, 160s etc...
It doesn't matter, a shooter in my opinion and still growing.

Hard to say with all that velvet and still growing, but roughly 140 IMO, a real nice buck!

My thoughts right now are he should make 150.hopefully he sticks around. The next time I check the cameras we will know a lot more..
150 is possible, he has everything a buck needs to score well. Be sure to post the next pictures along with some GPS coordinates.
I agree with Jeff....150 is possible. Looking at him he is going to grow a lot yet and he has 10 points and nice brows. If he has mass (hard to tell right now) he is definitely 150 when done growing.
Yeah. Sounds like we are on the same page. I think 150+. One buddy thinks 140+ another thinks 160+.. I have a pic and video from last year I will try and post as well...thanks for the input guys..
I would guess 145-150. The buck I shot last yr we thought was 150+ from the velvet pics. Ended up officially scoring 140. Either way very nice buck.
That deer will go 150 pretty easily, good luck hunting him.
142 minimum. He's got a few more inches to grow, and might hit 150. Velvet is deceptive though.

So on your smartphone, you post, and hit your back arrow to escape is the reason for your double posts. Instead, hit the number next to the Web address at the top of the screen. Then close out each folder. The back arrow is basically bringing up your latest post, and for some reason on this site, it thinks you are wanting to hit submit a second or third time?
And I think inches are gay! Who cares what it scores! Is it a shooter? That's something you determine well before the tape ever hits the horn. Scores in my opinion are for those guys asking. Sort of like beard or spur length on a turkey? I've never hunted a bird based on those particulars, and the deer falls in the same ranks. Would I shoot it? Yep! Would I personally care what it scores? NOPE! I know of no one who has entered a P & Y (scoring) deer into the books....well one guy, and he's a total d-bag!
Simmer down there Peter pecker. The guy was just asking a simple question. I don't really care about inches or book either, but this is a hunting forum and if the guy wants to ask for others guess on inches, he should be able to do so without a response like yours. In my opinion, replies similar to yours are signs of a guy who falls into the same category you describe the fella you know that entered his deer into the books.

CC, I answered his question. I didn't care that he asked. My response was geared toward the very thing that's made this sport so absurd. Inches! We all take a score, because so many people ask that same question....."what does it score?"
Break it down. What or why is this always the first question? I just believe (hence my personal opinion like I stated), that score shouldn't matter. Age shouldn't matter. Sex shouldn't matter. Weapon shouldn't matter. Method shouldn't matter. MY PERSONAL OPINION SHOULDN'T MATTER......yet you take it personal? How's this? Your response to me is no better or no worse than my response to score, yet you feel the need to be hall monitor, and call me out about my personal opinion? I give two schidtz what you think of my personal opinion, because I can differentiate that your personal opinion is just your opinion, and personally, I don't care!

I'm almost certain your real intent was to post a picture of a dandy buck you caught on camera, and most likely won't see come September. Perhaps this was the intended post? "Check out this guy.....I hope to get him!"
And one more time, I guessed the silly score. Likely I'm wrong, and most likely it won't matter, because you probably won't shoot him. I certainly hope you do!
Would you not admit that archery has been so commercialized over that same question you are inquiring about? Score? Like we are judging each other on their performance based on the inches a deer has on its head.
The gay part, is that so many people care about score, and score alone, not that you might?
I am thinking a lot of nice steaks, roasts and sausage if you are fortunate enough to harvest him.
Oh and a real nice shoulder mount or European mount too!
In my book they are all trophies, we do European mounts for all the bucks we harvest and hang them together. A nice reminder of what good fortunes we have had in the past years.

I enjoy scoring bucks just for comparison to other bucks. I also have every buck I've ever shot on the wall either plaque, European, or head mount. Seeing the bucks grow each yr is half the fun for me. Some people have a different definition of 'gay'.
Gay is a figurative word, not literal. Sort of like queer. It can mean interested or sexually attracted to the same sex. It can also mean different or odd. If you're into inches to compare it to another deer, I get that. Too often the more inches something has is a sign of something better. If you ask the yearling buck, he'll tell you it's not how big your "rack" is, it's how you use it! ;-)

my post was simply to get opinions from other hunters on a score. nothing else. apparently DEBATE FREE means nothing..

It is a good buck, no question about it. Hope you get a crack at him this fall.
Don't get me wrong, if I had a crack at a buck like that and was successful I would be very very happy. I have a lot of antlers on the all and have never had any scored.
145-150 depending on how much additional tine length he puts on... He actually looks behind last year as he doesn't look like he will be adding a lot yet this year as he doesn't have the balls on the ends of his tines yet that indicate there is substantial growth yet. -A very nice deer by all means. Even in velvet, it's pretty clear he has added mass.
I may check my cameras again tmrw. That should give us a better idea on potential. If we actually have him again.

No debate...just an opinion...but I gotta agree with P.P.'s take. We've become waaaaaay too score happy. And I do understand your thread bro...I get "inches" can be simply a tool to be used for comparison purposes.
"Trophy" is in the eye of the beholder....
In my opinion the guys who shoot anything that moves is ruining our sport. Typically the guy who is selective puts in their time and works hard for one opportunity a season. If anything "horn porn" has increased the drive of hunting while over harvesting is ruining it.
While I have no problem with people shooting whatever makes them happy, I strongly agree with RJN on the brown it's downers. These are usually the guys that shoot the first thing, yet bitch about no deer or no nice deer around. Some people whine about the "trophy hunters". But those are the guys that are more likely to put back into the herd. Through land management, herd management, and supporting orgs that help and support us. The brown it's downers generally are more worried about supporting the local watering holes.
I will say all that needs to be said on this thread.

Well for I finally got the score. Unfortunately not me taping it but a neighbor. Grossed 175. Shot with crossbow.
175"? Do the inches that buck has offset how he shot it, or is there a 25 inch deduction because of his lack of skill to take that beast?
I'm not sure if it's gay or queer, or awesome that someone got to put a tape on him? Either way, the hunter who got him is 175 inches cooler in my book, even if he doesn't make that other book lol.
Pete-pec, the scoring system only deducts points for using a crossbow if the hunter was able bodied. That also puts it in the "gay" category according to my 16 year old son.
