Used to drive through Necedah and Coloma a lot but that was 20 years ago. Always saw deer along 21 back then but not so many the few times I go through there now days.

Also look at Adam county GIS. http://www.adamscountylandrecords.com/
Look for MFLO (Managed Forest Land Open. These are private owners with land open to the public-for tax break). I got on it, started looking at my buddies neighbors and found several of them with open land within 3 miles of his house. Be sure to contact each land owner since sometimes the listing is wrong. One guy told me exactly where the turkey had been coming out on his field. Contact info is all listed. AND a I called one land owner and he let me hunt his land not in MFL open. MFL is forest land and fields are not included. He even told me I could come and shoot as many does as I wanted. I ended up with 400+ acres to hunt turkeys.
I hope to hunt there the first weekend in Oct. Up north we are buck only ..... even with archery. I am hungry. Remember the Oct 10 & 11 Youth Hunt (GUN)... expect people & you have to wear orange.
PM me if you like. I will always talk hunting.
Here is my experience, and I have taken up to a 150 buck on public land.......
forget everything you have read, or heard at seminars on deer hunting, this is an entirely different game. You are not on controlled land, where stands for the most part are set, and you hunt the most favorable winds or none at all........
I use no scents. why? because the other hunters have a lot of woods sprayed up with a lot of stuff, and the good bucks, are wise to foreign scents, and yes the stuff you buy is a foreign scent.........
unless you find the sweet spot, and you will with enough scouting and hunting, forget about humping stands and sticks and other junk in the woods. it will slow you down, it will make lots of noise, and it will make you very immobile.
The trick to public land is to be mobile, and for me that is to hunt on the ground. maybe, maybe I will carry my pack chair, but for the most part, I stand, or just kneel at times. this sounds nuts to some, but I use a plastic garbage bag, to kneel on, so I can turn quietly, if needed, but use this mostly in the wet areas.....
Be aggressive, go after the buck you see. too many sit in a tree and hope it comes by. me I stay down wind and go after him. most times you will lose but so what, its public land, blow out a buck, go to another piece of property.......
Water is your greatest friend here. although I am not down there anymore, via a canoe, and a small 3hp, motor, I hate to tell you, on all the land you can get on, via the lower Wisconsin river, and you will rarely see anyone....... during the ml season, you will have bucks pushed into you.......
think outside the box........... now I hunt deep woods deer, up north 90percent of the area is useless, I have to find that small 10 percent, and than I have to be more cautious, hunting deer, that usually, other than bear training, do not get bothered, and this is a whole other game also........
I have found the classic advice you will get from magazines and authors, etc, is good advice, but this is all from controlled property, or areas where everyone is on the same page........
I got permission once to hunt in Trempelau County, and the guy did not care how I hunted. I can honestly say, I shot some nice bucks there, before it was leased out to an outfitter. They were shot on the ground, mostly during the rut. Deer move and so do I.......
One day, I watched a buck of a lifetime, in that county, chase and breed a doe. the only time I ever saw an actual mounting of a doe. after he was done he chased more does in the area, he had them corralled back in a dry hump, surrounded by water. I had the wind, but could not close the deal.....
I will only say, a buck like this is rare, and watched him go onto private property. I stopped there, and asked permission, but did not get it. They also hunt. I told them about the buck, and they showed me all there trail camera pictures.
I said he is not on there, and he is truly close to 190,,,, they were pumped, and I told them where I had been hunting, but it was going to be leased. why not share the wealth...... they invited me back to turkey hunt though, and trout fish........
good luck,,,,,,,,, I hope you score
