I was at deerfest today I talked to most of the venders with seeds, i was is shocked by how much some of the seed blends cost. I ended up going with the arrow seeds Krunch n Much. I've never planted this type of blend i'm hoping it will feed some deer for me. I'm doing 1/4 acre broadcasting it. Most of the venders i talked with spent lots of time knocking the other brands and talking about how much less inert matter is in the blend they sell. The Horny seed fellow told me some companies have 20% inert. I've never seen any blend with that much, so they were out. I usually do turnips and radishes and i wanted to try something new. The Arrow seed guys were very helpful and didn't spend any time bashing other venders, so I threw them a few bucks, what the hell.

Some might say "generic" is a lot cheaper at feed mills, but at least you got what you wanted and it appears to be a good mix. The only planting I've ever done as far as "food plots" goes was the lazy man's way of not cutting so much grass when putting the house on my property. Had a farmer friend put in an acre or two of ladino clover, and the deer loved it (esp. in early spring/summer) until some years later in a drought most of it just burned out and was overtaken by the former "orchard grass" that used to thrive in its place.

Seeds are available at most feed mills and much cheaper, not as convenient though.
In the midwest do pretty well with a white clover and winter rye mix. Can add all other things in any ratio you want. Red clover, Ladino, rape, brassica, sainfoin etc etc. Food plots are fun to do.

I buy my seed from Welters. It's fairly cheap and is at my doorstep in a few days after ordering. I planted ptt and radishes last week and ladino clover will go in next weekend.

Mean Bean Crush and Shot Plot went in a week and half ago. Been planting Shot Plot for several years with a great results. Added the Mean Bean Crush to see if I can get beans to grow without the deer eating them off.

Frost seeded trails late winter with clover and some brassicas. All the critters like clover. Easy to maintain - mow and fertilize once a year.
Planted a strip of oil sunflower - forage for the over-winter birds.
