What did you think of deerfest? Im not sure if I was just not into it that day or what drove 1 1/2 to the show Im not sure I was there an hour headed back home thinking wow that was worth it, I was with the wife and kids and none really got much out of it,
I didn't go this year but last year I was set up with a booth and completely dissapointed. No one was buying anything except close out stuff that was dirt cheap. So many of the booths were just TV guys who were trying to pump up their egos.
The fun is in the hunt. Shows always leave me thinking that's part of my life I'll never get back.
My wife and I spent Friday night at a bed and breakfast in West Bend. Drove right past Deerfest on the way out in the morning. No interest in going. Went a couple years ago. I am not into celebrities, hunting or others. They do not hunt like I do. Their sponsors are just that. The sponsors pay the celebs up to six figures or more to promote their products because gullible hunters believe just because the celeb promotes a product it must be the best.
Thought about going, now I am glad I didn't!
You mean getting your pic taken with the celebs wasn't enough? ;^)
I had kind of looked into doing a WTA booth there but it was quite pricey for our org. Too much going on during our short summers anyway.
Well I went on Friday since I was in the area. Lots of young hunters, wanting to see the TV celebs, and to me that was a good thing.....
I can think back to the 80's when many other young hunters lined up to see Bob Fratzke, and Gene Wenzel, and Myles Keller, and Roger Rothar, etc.......
So its there time now, they are having good clean fun, and loving hunting, and that I like......
Not much there for me, however I bought a book from Tim Wells, he has a passion on stopping world wide poaching,,,,,,
I got a deal for 10.00 since I was a senior citizen now, on some small game heads, that fit behind the field point, got 6 of those.......
I got to talk to Keith Beam, from the original DB guys, asked him, if I could get another BS-5, since mine was stolen. He said he wished he still had some of the original blinds. I told him those were the best, now its foreign junk,,, he was a nice guy
I got a free ticket...... I think the timing of the show is bad, too hot, but the facilities were nice,,,,,,
it is what it is, people trying to get their products off the ground, I think that is what America is all about......
I'd go see Bob Fratzke, and Gene Wenzel, and Myles Keller, and Roger Rothar any day.
Went to "deerfest" last year because it is very close to home. That was the first and last time I will go.
The name of the event should be hunting TV personality fest.

well Kevin when your 14 years old, I think you want to see some of the new people. not saying its the same, but you have to let the young people have their time,,,,,,,,,,
its not all about us (older hunters)
I do believe a lot of guys are gullible when it comes to new products that are gimmicks but I would be looking for as many sponsors as possible if I could hunt for a living. Most of these celebrities are good at what they do but I'm jealous also.
My Favorite part of deerfest, beside seeing my son light up at all the tractors, deer heads and dogs is the buck and bear club hallway with bucks people bring by to have score and viewed. It's inspirational to me the deer heads being displayed with pride, not all are quote giant bucks, but having the pride to have it displayed is cool. I also like that it states what county. I've never done that, but maybe i will some year. I also seem to purchase something from the Critters booth because they really blow out some gear. I've never waited in line to get a picture, but if i don't have to wait i'll snap one with my son and i with the Celeb hunter. It's close, the wife and i have been going every year since my son has been with us. Also expecting son number 2 any day now, so i'll keep going and bring the boys with, because it's fun. I do think it odd how some hunting celebs have glitter on there jeans...haahaa
When it was in Oshkosh it was a nice show I went last year and never again. Really the best one is Fleet Farm at Lambeau field in a couple weeks Tons of bargains but crowded at checkout. But deals beyond belief
First year i went and id have to say i liked it better then deer and turkey and my wife agreed. Less crowded and more spread out. I ended up dropping around $500 and i never do that at deer and turkey. I had a buddy go sunday and he said the same thing.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. Lost interest years ago, but did attend an Eau Claire events several years back and had a head scored. Had fun talking with Ralph and Vicky however and my son seemed to really enjoy the event as well.
Just me, I don't care for the crowds I guess, but more power to those that enjoy it, especially the kids!!! Can be great, clean fun!
Now the Fleet Farm Redclub speaks of, my be worth looking in to for some as well.
