Mountain Lion ?
Connecticut

New to site, while checking my game cameras, I found a photo of what I think might be a Mountain Lion in Fairfield County. Thoughts?
That animal looks like a lion for sure.I would say its possible to be the first one on camera in ct.Finally ,I have heard from a neihbor that one got hit in salem ,he went home to get his camera, went back and it was gone 5 minates later.
Where in FFld Cty is this? If you can positively guarantee the authenticity of the photo, I would send a copy to the DEEP. I'm sure they would want to know!
Looks like a cat but isn't too short?
Can you go stand in that spot and post a pic of you with your height, for scale?
certainly worth a call to DEEP. Any other photos you can post?
I agree...need something to scale it..my gut feeling is its smaller than you think.ie house cat. But something set to scale it will put that to rest
That's a tabby cat. Check out the rings on it's tail.
Ditto tabby. tail looks to have rings as do lower back legs. That said, I just checked and see that mountain lion's are about 30" at the shoulder (27-31"), so, if that log is 20"-2' feet high, then this is possibly a lion. It just feels to small to me some how. How big is that log?
I'm still thinking tabby.
Could you get a picture of the prints ? Put something next to it for scale..looks like too much muscle tone for a house cat..
do you hunt in Wilton? Saw this on that site this morning
I agree too much muscle for a house cat but looking closely it does show rings on the tail damn I want to believe everyone that ever said they saw a lion!
If we are being had, we will never get a pic for scale or any other info. Is this his first post here? That would give us a clue. If it really is his cam, he should know how tall and long that Cat is.
My first thought was too small for a lion, but it should be pretty easy to tell how tall it is by the height of those rocks. I wonder why just one pic and no additional info. Call me a skeptic on this one, at least until we get more corroborating evidence.
Fellas, I will answer the many questions, it was taken in Norwalk not far from the Merritt Parkway corridor.
I do hunt in Wilton and several other towns in Fairfield County.
I just discovered this photo last night as you can see it was taken Thursday about 7pm.
It is my camera and I can say the photo is real, just not sure what it is.
This was the only picture of the animal, I have a delay on the camera.
I will go back and take measurements but this thing called work gets in the way.
Watch your back when you go and measure.
I also agree on the muscle tone. Could be a "baby" mountain lion?
It's a house cat. Look at the vegetation around the cat and the diameter of the trees in the area, no way it's a Mt lion.
I was out running my dog the other day and I met women also running her dogs. She claimed that those particular woods were full of mountain lion, and you had to be careful because they can sneak up on you.
I am like fly paper for crazy people whenever I step in the woods lately.
Toonces, I once met a lady who stopped walking in the woods because she felt bad she startled a moose. Now she only walks roads. We got the craziest of the crazys here.
Oh man, here we go! Thats a friggin house cat dude, wake up!!!
Toonces that's hysterical. Since you brought up crazy people, Ill add my favorite. A good buddy who's a stone mason was working for a couple in a well to do town here in central MA. The couple happened to be physician's. The spot was primo hunting ground, and given they had a good relationship, he asked them for hunting permission. They said yes, and enthusiastically let him know that the deer lived in the caves along the steep hill. They had "seen the caves all through the rocky hillside". What these two doc's thought were "deer caves" were porcupine dens!
Ha ha ha :)
Just goes to show, knowledge in one area, does not always translate to another eh :) ha ha ha!
The eastern mountain lion where know to have light stripes in there hind quarters and tail at a young age. Also very light tone to the fur on there feet. The head on that cat is very large in size with seems is has some growing to do. But very hard to tell without a comparison pic.
Tough to tell in that pic without some scale. I'm leaning towards an orange tabby house cat.
Anyways...back to the funny nut-jobs in the woods....I hike Castle Craig and the Radio Towers all the time training for elk hunting this fall. I was bugling and cow calling up to the Radio Towers last week and decided to walk down the road to drop back off down a different trail, I come around the corner and there is an older guy with his dog in the road. He looks at me and says, "Did you hear that pack of coyotes howling?"
I look at him funny and realize he heard me letting loose a couple bugles and tell him it was me practicing elk calling. He laughed and I see the Bear Spray on his waist. I point to it and he tells me he sees bears all the time up there.....which I believe, but I haven't run into any yet. Then he proceeds to tell me he has seen plenty of mountain lions and grey wolf as well. I didn't have the heart to tell him he's seeing things that don't exist in CT. But he felt safe with his bear spray and dog.
As much as I called up there and I haven't got one response yet! Lol
And I too have run into couples doing the deed. What's amazing is that they think they are the only people up there. Too funny.
Ahhh crap,that was you guys.lol
BT,
I hope you weren't rude to interrupt and waited until they were done. Don't wanna be a party pooper and ruin the moment.
As long as my camera battery doesn't go dead I always wait till they're done. :)
Bahhhh rabbit costume! Bahhh ha ha ha!
Showed the pic to a coworker who works for the deep also and he said it was a house cat due to the rings on the tail.
I don't know man ,I remember watching Marty stoffers wild America and the young ones had faint spots and stripes to blend in stuff..but I'm no scientist
How tough would it be to walk to that spot, let the camera take your pic and then post it? Or even easier, post another pic from the same camera/spot with a deer or a raccoon in it for scale?
I suspect he knew all along that it was a house cat, and is trying to create some drama.
Anyone have a pic of a Sasquatch they'd care to post?
SWK
what? I don't get it?? Are you telling us that there's some perverted image in the trunk of the tree that only degenerate, disgusting, old men,..........never mind.
Maybe its me but, I see buns up n kneeling. I was wheeling and dealin, she surrendered to the feeling...sorry,frank zappas Camarillo Brillo popped into my head..carry Ln
Notme, I miss watching Wild America, best one was when he raised the bear cubs.
had me there for a minute but I am going with a kitty cat - scale to tree trunks leads me to believe it is small
