2015 Kill Thread
Wisconsin
Contributors to this thread:
It does not matter how you killed it or what you killed please post it here. Like last year I am so tired of the qualifications.
This is the bowsite, correct? No one posts rifle killed deer on this site, why would you post other animals harvested without a bow?
It's also the Wisconsin site so does that mean that only kills from Wisconsin should be on here?
My buddy and I went on an Antelope hunt in WY this year. He was fortunate enough to take one. I on the other hand did not.
I just had to post this pic with bear season open and two of our favorite seasons about to start.
+1 Screaming Eagle.
Pat, the owner of Bowsite, posts his rifle kills on the Big Game Forum every year. Just saying... I personally love seeing all kills regardless of the weapon of choice.
That is why someone can specifically post something and ask for fellow posters to follow what the original person asked for. What's wrong with asking for Bow only kills on a certain post??????????????
Isn't really that tough to follow those instructions but it never fails that a couple of people on this site have to make more of the matter than there needs to be. Post what you want and don't respond to other posts, pretty simple to follow.
Took this bear this spring in Manitoba. Great Boar.
Buddy's brother shot this one around 6:30pm. His first with a crossbow. I'm still waiting for them to come out of the woods.
Little bro shot this nice buck.
A couple really nice bucks on opening day! I'm not a fan of crossbow hunting aside from retired or disabled, but to each is own and it's now legal so congrats on each.!! Keep the pics coming.
Opening day doe. 41# Blacktail, cedar arrow with Magnus broadhead
Congrats guys! And CraigL awesome job doing it the hard way! Much respect!!
Nice shooting Craig. I look forward to hearing the story. Make sure you send a pic to Tim for the Stump Shooter. Congratulations!!
Awesome Craig. I love nothing more than seeing deer killed with trad gear. You guys have real talent.
Craig, very impressive. Love the skill it takes to be successful with traditional equipment.
Opening night with my 9 yr old son. He did the tracking and learned a little bit about a deer's anatomy. He's hooked. A memory that will last a lifetime.
Nice deer guys, and Huey, that's what it's all about. Love seeing/hearing those types of tales, and am encouraged by all the antlerless photos I saw on Facebook over the weekend. Farm country here is teeming with whitetails right now but with the addition of crossbows and folks seeing more deer (and thus more likely to feel right about taking a doe), don't think it'll be a long-term problem.
Craigl, nice trad deer. I like those hunts.
Huey, really very nice success to 9 year old. Congrats.
My son who was not sure he could even bear hunt this year was successful this morning. He took a 195# boar with dogs. He only had today and tomorrow to hunt.
Congrats to your son Trapper! I love hunting bear with hounds.
Pretty pathetic how the rant and rave/who gives a rats butt threads on this site are alive and thriving while the live hunt/kill 2015 threads stay quiet. No wonder why there's a xbow season now, doesn't look like the diehard bowhunters get out anymore!!!!
Great kill 1acre!!!!!! Tell us the story.
Congratulations everyone.
1acre, there are not many diehard bowhunters anymore, many have left bowhunting to join the crossbow ranks. I have witnessed it with the vast majority of my former bowhunting buddies. Most have switched to crossbows and now hunt where stands can be placed 40-50 yards away from runways, funnels, food plots and piles. I cannot shoot that far with my stickbow so now hunt alone, do my own thing as part of a declining breed. I kind of like it.
Bowhunter numbers are in serious decline all over the US which means less bowhunter participation on bowhunting only forums and in bowhunting clubs and activities. This is to be expected.
1 acre, congrats on your deer. It's still early my friend. Given it's only day 7, I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of post on the kill thread. I know a number of die-hard bow hunters that refuse to sit in a stand before October.
Also agree with above post that many have switched to the x-guns. I know I'm not the only who has friends that have switched to the "dark side" in the last year. It's legal, and it's their choice. I give my buddies the appropriate amount of grief, but not enough to end a friendship over. I've said this before on this site, "Bros before does."
Rest assured, there's still plenty of us diehards around. Then again, I'm shootin' a Matthews Z-7 Extreme, so how "die-hard" am I compared to guys like CraigL who keep putting 'em down with the trad gear?? Huge RESPECT to the trad guys. Now there's a dying breed.
I always go back to what I feel my responsibility is as a hunter. Hunt hard, hunt legal, and teach the next generation what it means to be a sportsman/woman.
Nice job 1acre, I'd like to hear the story too. Unfortunately for me, even though this is one of my favorite times of the year to be in a tree. It's also my busiest time of year. I'll be putting in 16 hr. days until at least the second week of October. So for the rest of you, keep the live hunt and kill threads going. Post lots of pics out there and some stories.
Congratulations on the early season success guys! I am more of a lurker on this site, but after reading the post above I decided to add my opening night buck pic and story.
I have gotten alot of pictures of this deer and had a good idea where he was bedding which was fairly close to a small field and a new stand I had put. The North wind opening night was the perfect wind for this spot.
I first saw him about forty yards away in the corner of the plot at 6:15. He surveyed the scene and walked out and started feeding. Then he marched in to 15 yards and quartering to me. I waited until he turned quartering away and looked at another buck in the field. I drew and shot, he bolted out of there and I heard him crash about 75 yards away.
My son was not with me in the stand but I drove one hour to get him and then drove an hour back to the land to track the buck. It was worth the drive, he loves everything about hunting! He is 10 pointer with a 17 3/4" inside spread.
Beautiful deer C G. Congrats buddy!!
First off let me say I didn't mean to belittle anyone on here for the topics they choose to bring up and discuss with each other. I personally enjoy the kill/hunting threads especially the pics of the deer and the places people hunt. So I just get a little bored when I see those threads go dormant because I know there's gotta be someone out hunting this first week of the season. Very nice buck CG, I have a three yr old son myself and can't wait till I can get him into hunting. I know I'm gonna catch some crap from someone for this, but oh well. The truth is I shot a doe saturday, and the buck Wednesday both with a crossbow. They were both headed to a small apple tree in my back yard where I hunt. It's a somewhat urban situation where I hunt but I meet all the requirements for distance from neighbors and what not and there's a large number of deer in the area so I'm lucky to hunt a lot even when I don't have the time to drive to some larger parcels of land I'm allowed to hunt. I've been bowhunting for 9 years, I know that's not a long time, but I'm more or less self taught as I'm the only hunter in my family. I generally even bowhunt the gun season as well. The crossbow was a Christmas present from my non-hunting parents so I figured I'd give it a try. As many have stated on here the crossbow was considerably easier to use compared to my compound especially because I was only taking 20 yd shots. The one positive thing given my urban hunting environment was the recovery distance of both deer was less than 25 yds. I've had deer go down like that with my compound before but then again I've also had them go down 200 yds and die which isn't ideal when in a semi urban area. Anyways I plan to hunt the gun season in November with my compound. Congratulations to everyone on their success so far and Good luck to everyone this year and thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.
Congrats to you 1acre. Self taught and bringing yourself into the sport. Hats off to you. Best thing you can do for your kid. It kept me out of trouble growing up. Doing it with a crossbow is your thing. For respect of the animal we make the clean shot. That's all that matters to me. Nice buck by the way.
Congratulations 1acre on success. I too agree, getting the kids into any kind of hunting is important, great way for parents to participate in an activity with their children.
Awesome buck CG!!! Big time congrats.
It's a shame to see this thread become yet another crossbow rant thread.
Found a honey hole on one of the farms I'm hunting and had my best day ever. Shot my first antlerless deer this evening and while waiting to come down the deer came out of the woodwork and I had more deer around me than ever before. I passed on a nice 8 point. I was very tempted to shoot but let it walk. The closest it got was 2 yards. It had the spread but not the tine length. If it had the tine length of CG's it would be hanging next to my doe. My goal for this year is six deer in the freezer and a book buck with my stickbow. I could have shot a second doe but I wasn't sure if I had a tag for it so it also got a pass. I did have the second tag. A good day in Manitowoc county.
Semper Fi - Tom
Nice going Two Feathers. Love days like those when all your work and scouting pay off. I too have some honey holes and have evenings like that where it seems there are deer everywhere you look.
I shot this buck in Polk County on public land. Didn't see much deer sign while scouting so I count myself lucky.
Those are some nice bucks(and bear)guys. I got one more doe for the freezer this weekend, have not seen any bucks yet.
I love seeing the pictures! One little bit of photo advice. When you tag a bear tag it on the tounge then when you take pictures you can roll it up in the mouth so it doesn't show on the pictures.
Of course you know this Zinger, that some internet cop will point out that the animal was moved for pictures before it was tagged. That would be the bowsite politically correct way to show an animal kill so you don't catch heat from the po po lol.
my first bear on my first bear hunt shot on the last day. Picked the stand and set up this spring and had good help from friends and a local guy w/ baiting. Had to outsmart a huge bear that was only coming in at night and dominating the bait basically wrecking it. This guy showed up for the first time at the site at night and got run off by the huge bear. We baited again and he didn't want to get run off so he came in early, for the last time...
Awesome looking bear WausauDug. Congrats!
Congrats again Craig. You are off to a great start.
Pete LOL! I forgot about that.
1acre, hope you didn't think I was pickin' on you b/c that was not my intent at all. My personal apology to you if you thought it was.
Glad you're out there putting time on stand, glad that time was rewarded with meat in the freezer. You don't need to apologize to me or anyone else for A) being excited about a great hunt or B) using a x-bow.
We need more young hunters like yourself that are excited about being in the woods. Keep after it!!!
Continued Success, Jason K. (Zonks32)
Dug, that's a dandy bear, and a cool blaze to boot! Congrats!
Congrats again Craig. You are off to a great start this season. I hope you make it to the fall hunt and your luck rubs off on the rest of the group.
Some awesome bears and deer being posted.
WausauDug-that is a beautiful animal!
Wish I had good news to share. Not seeing much in my areas but it is early. I really dislike waiting until Nov to see if my stands will pay off
Nice Buck CG! Isn't it awesome to pass on the hunting heritage and tradition to our kids?! Hope you enjoy all that wonderful and healthy venison for a long time.
Here is a decent drop tine buck a friend in my hunting group arrowed the evening of September 13th.
DD, that buck rocks! Congrats to your friend!
Fine looking animal Kylet! Congrats!
I harvested this elk on September 13th in Idaho.
those are some awesome Elk guys - well done
Third sit of the season today - killed a solo doe.
Blood trail from the Rage expandable broadhead. Recovered the deceased 35 paces from where she was shot.
Baboon, an animal with the keenest of senses I have ever hunted.
Guided my 17 year old grandson last night . He decided to become a Bowhunter in June and bowhunting 101 began . I told him he was ready sunday and off we went . We sat side by side on a spine looking down on a small thick swamp just below us , watching a faint trail .
At 6 :40 a large body Buck with stubby antlers walked out and started feeding . He did everything perfectly , when the buck stepped on a trail we had ranged at 28 yards he put his 30 yard a bit low and released .
The Buck started to turn as the arrow got there . TJ had a better look and said the arrow was in just behind the rib cage heading toward the shoulder as it ran off . After 15 min. we confirmed that there was no arrow where the buck was standing .
We left the area , drove home { 3 miles } picked up 2 helpers and a pile of flashlights . we started walking 10 yards apart in the direction the Buck ran , After 75 yards I knew where the deer was headed , A nasty thicket I scoutted 3 months ago . we turned and walked about 25 yards and found the Buck dead .
TJ was right , the arrow entered behind the rib cage a bit high . We toasted the deer over a harvest / eclipse moon with one very happy grandson . 2 grandkids down , 11 more to go ;-] WE never bothered to look for blood , I only do that as a last resort .
Ruger that is awesome, sounds like your scouting paid off. Huge congrats to your Grandson, and great job for being a pretty damn good Grandpa.
WausauDoug, awesome bear. If you don't do a mount that shows that V you are crazy.
Ruger, congrats to your grandson. Pretty darn good start to his deer hunting career.
Just returned from Alberta where, as usual, had a BLAST. Will start planning another trip. These critters are large but geared rather low and great to chase with a bow.
Congrats all. LC, did the biting bugs or a branch get the best of you? Can see what looks like a couple biting pests atop the moose's crown.
Got spanked by a broken-off branch when I looked down to step over a fallen log. And those are flies.
Awesome Ruger! I bet your grandson is stoked. Great job mentoring.
Way to go LC. Getting a moose with my bow is on my bucket list.
That will make a neat mount Capt Mike. Not sure I ever saw one of those killed. Do the locals eat them?
Lame..Ruger and the rest - GREAT JOB
I put this in the bear harvest thread, I thought I would throw it on here too.
Things really started to die down at my bait this week and the good bear I had been hoping for and had been on camera every day hadn't showed in a week so I decided now was the time to concentrate on taking one of the other bear I had been seeing which wasn't gonna be real easy because they pretty much quit coming in and when they were it was at night. I was pretty nervous because I've passed up a lot of bear this year and now all of a sudden they seemed to disappear and I'm down to just over a week to go.
I got in Saturday and was disappointed to see that the bait had not been touched. I'd gone from seeing 18 bear in a day to really thinking I may not see another one this season. I was set by 3:00, the wind was supposed to be good for this stand but it was swirling all over, not much I could do about that. About 5:15 I saw one working his way in so I got ready. He came out and he looked pretty decent but he seemed a little apprehensive about coming in. Eventually he did and when he grabbed some food and turned away I drew but something wasn't right. Earlier I had put on gloves after I put my release on and now the glove was getting in the way of me reaching my release trigger comfortably. Not much I can do at this point so I started to bend to get my pin on the bear then all of a sudden thwack!!! My bow released and the arrow stuck into a tree about 14 feet high right behind the bear. He wasn't too affected by it and went back to eating. I tried to grab another arrow which wasn't real easy because I had my quiver stashed into an evergreen tree next to me. I finally got one out and knocked, adjusted my glove a little and waited for him to put his head down and drew again. This time I made sure I kept my hand and fingers away from the trigger but it still didn't feel right, my peep and kisser weren't really lining up but I was able to get my pin on my target and a good hold so I released and the arrow went over his back!! This is at 13 yards!! Again the bear wasn't alarmed, he checked out the arrow and sniffed it a couple times and went back to eating. This time I slowly was able to work my glove off and get another arrow knocked. Again as soon he turned away I drew and with my glove now off I felt real comfortable. When he came back in and was broadside I held behind the shoulder a little and released, the arrow hit right where I was aiming and he took off. I could see blood coming out as soon as the arrow hit and knew he was hit real good. He made it about 20 yards, piled up, gave 1 moan and that was it. I've taken many animals over the years all over the country and I have to say even though this isn't my biggest bear (actually my smallest at about 150# or 160# dressed) it was probably my most exciting and enjoyable hunt. What a blast. Cant wait to do it again......in 10 more years. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone.
Happy, yes, it will make a very nice looking mount. no, the locals will not eat them. They actually don't even want to touch or skin them as many of them believe that evil members of their society are reincarnated as baboons.
What was really amazing was how vindictive and thinking the rest of the troupe was. The day after I shot that one, we returned to that same blind to find it totally ruined by the baboons. They had broken in the roof and tore mesh and brush from three sides of it. In addition, they pee'd and crapped all over the inside. Really made a mess of it.
great bear and even a better story, nice work!

Mike- I have never hunted Africa and know nothing about baboons, but that kind of vengeful behavior seems crazy to me!! Were there a whole bunch with it that witnessed the shot?
Blockie, where did you hunt in Idaho, I've been out there a few times.
Bigwoods, even though I have shot baboons before with a rifle at longer ranges, this was the first time shooting them up close and personal. There was a large group of them (maybe 25-30) which consisted of a couple big males, along with numerous females and young ones. It does seem vengeful, although I am far from an authority on if or how much a baboon can comprehend and rationalize. At face value, it certainly seemed as if it was done out of spite. No materials were removed from the blind, they were simply pulled loose, torn and defecated on.
First buck with a bow. Perfect shot turned into a guy shot. Many hours of looking turned into a successful hunt.
First buck with a bow. Perfect shot turned into a gut shot. Many hours of looking turned into a successful hunt.
Awesome buck Davis. Big time congrats. How about the story! Way to stick with it and find him.
Great story Capt Mike. I'd love to hear more about your trip and see more pics. Getting one of them at close range had to be a hoot. I'm sure the mount will be amazing.
Congrats Davis! Nice fat little buck there to provide some yummy backstraps! This is just the beginning brother!
Got a big doe this morning. Got one more hunt this afternoon before heading home
Tagged out on last day of my trip. Got another doe and a buck this afternoon.
My oldest got his first bowkill on the 25th hunting by himself behind the house. 16" 9 point. 170# double lung 18yd shot 70 yd recovery. He's excited to get his wbh gold pin!
Congrats shed. That's one happy guy!
must get his looks from his mother.
He definitely gets his looks from his mom! But he's picked up a few things about hunting from the old man. ;)
Kids got a nose for finding horns too. :)
Southern Boy what happened? Change of plans?
"@Mike F. Is that the mentality up there "brown it's down"? Thought that was just in the south. Thought u guys up north were a little more selective. Lol. I don't plan to shoot no small buck. Let em walk, shoot a doe for meat."
It is easier if you plan on fitting it into your overnight bag and into the overhead bin.
What happened was it was last 10 minutes of daylight on last day of hunt and I still had my buck tag. So I took him at 10 yards. I passed on 3 other bucks on 2 other days. Got all 3 on last day
10-3-15. Gross 133. Dressed weight-205 lb
ooh, 205lbs very nice deer and well done
Not my biggest but made the decision to shoot and the rest is history. 11-13 pts with stickers. Nice heavy rack.
I got this nice "Non-Typical" last night, or maybe it's a 2.5yr old nubby buck?
Something happened there. Bases look around 1.5 so year 2.5 nubby LOL.
Beautiful bow. Like the limb "bolts."
Congrats Craig. Looks like you have material for another set of limb bolts.
Some great success!!! Congrats to all the hunters Hope to earn a spot soon maybe
Tonight was my 4th evening hunt of the season, I did one other morning hunt. I hunt tonight's stand anytime the wind is perfect, SE tonight 3 mph. The corn field I walk in to the woods on had just been picked yesterday. On my way in I saw a small buck just come out of the woods onto the picked corn well ahead of me, he had no clue I was headed to the woods just behind him. It just felt like one of those good times to be in the woods.
Half hour before sunset this little 8 point walks in and gets his picture taken by my game camera.
He drinks from the pond for about 4 minutes then looks back to the top of the birm where he came from. Nice 8 point is coming and his body and rack make the little 8 point look like a dwarf.
He stands up there at 25 yards with a buckthorn bush blocking my shot. I figure he is going down to the pond anyway so no hurry. After about 5 minutes the little buck walks up the birm and the big one walks up nose to nose. The little buck is licking the big ones nose. The big one just touches antlers with the little one. This happens about 6 times before the big one gets broadside enough for a shot.
Arrow flies true and the big one drops to the ground, flops a little and rolls down the birm to the edge of the water.
That shot was 27 yards. He rolls down the hill, massive blood trail ends in about 4 yards from where I shot him. He was flopping a little yet so I put another arrow in for good measure at 25 yards. Both were sure kill hits.
Note the buckthorn bush about the 2 O'clock position relative to where the buck is laying. Behind that is where he stood for a while.
This is not the first nice buck I shot from the stand this picture is from. Couple of yote and a fox too over the years.
The stats are: 17.5 inch inside spread. 23" neck, 210# dressed measured on a scale. I had guessed him at 180.
You guys that don't see a tag, don't get all excited. I have not moved or even touched the deer yet when this pic was taken. This buck was shot in southern Minnesota.
Game camera was pointed in this general direction which is how the pic of the little 8 got taken. I really hoped it would show pics of the big one maybe rolling down the hill. I left the camera aimed directly at the gut pile, we will see what shows up for the scraps.
While I was gutting my buck the little 8 pointer came back up almost to the top of the birm, 15 yards from me.
Now to butcher this, maybe try for a doe in MN yet then heading to Kansas in about a week.
I had not hunted this stand for over a month. The camera had 4 pictures of what I think is the buck I shot. I believe this is him at the bottom of this picture. I had no idea he was around until I laid eyes on him tonight.
Congrats Jeff, great buck, pics and story!
Congrats Jeff. Awesome deer.
Well done Jeff. Enjoyed the photos and story.
Congrats Jeff, Very nice. Is this in the area I turkey hunted?
Brother nailed this buck yesterday afternoon in Portage Co. It was in rut, nose to the ground running back and forth looking for a doe that just came through. It is 9 point with a 17" spread. Neck was thick and smelled of rut. Funny, that morning he had a bigger buck 10 yards away but his safety on his xbow would not release due to the improper alignment of the nock.
Congrats Jeff, nice buck and great story and pics. Will you have internet access in Kansas? Just wondering if you will keep us updated? I am living vicariously through others that are hunting out of state this year. I just don't have the time for anywhere other than WI this season.
Nice Buck Jeff! Did you use a bow or crossbow?
I will have internet and dishnet TV in a cheap little $200 per week cabin reserved for 2 weeks. Oh, heat and shower too. Hunting with one other person but I will likely be there alone for a few days up front and at the end too depending on what we see and how strong I am at waiting for a good one. It is very possible I might even miss Wisconsin gun season. Would only be the second time that has happened since 1966.
Miss the Wisconsin gun season???? say it ain't so Jeff!
Saw this buck chasing a doe. I rattled and next time he came out of the marsh 2 or 3 minutes later without the doe he came to me on a string. 26 yards hit back a little in the liver he went about 100 yards.
Dampland, if the Kansas deer gods look kindly on me and send me a nice one early I'll be hunting Sawyer and Washburn counties during gun season. Fingers crossed.
I got this doe a little over a week ago on my property in central Wisconsin. I got her from a stand that I don't think I hunted for about five years. When I got up there I couldn't believe how much things had grown up and wasn't sure that I could a get a shot at all. She stopped in front of the stand almost straight down under a ten inch hole in the foliage.
Great deer GVS! I love your style! You traditional guys set the bar.
Gvs great deer with the traditional equipment, congrats.
First day of the youth season I took a friends boy out and he nailed his first only a BF but was as happy as could be.
On the second day he gets a 6 pointer. Not bad for a just turned 11 year old and an old hand me down 30-30.
Jeffinmn, where did you hit that buck that you dropped him so fast? How many pounds are you pulling.
Friend shot this 6 pointer this morning around 7 out of one of my stands. Came in sniffing all around. His first archery buck so way cool
Congrats elk, very nice buck and Awesome pic on the other thread
Nice buck Elk, Congrats GVS, way to go.
Nov 1, 25 yard shot, 15 yard recovery
I shot this doe Halloween afternoon at about 2 PM. She was all alone no fawns nor any bucks trailing her. She fed on acorns and browse around my stand for 45 minutes. She fed downwind and started to blow, so she had to go;) We were out of venni anyway.
I had shoulder surgery so I have to hang up the recurve and take out its evil cousin for 6 weeks. No deer yet but this Tom was kind enough to let me shoot him at 20 yds.
November 1st. 3 pm. Chasing a doe. Green Lake co.
11/01 Running a doe 7:45 AM had him 2 days prior at 45 yards
Nov , 1 2015 7:15 am. 29 yards.
Glamour shot of another Door County doe being reduced to its yummy component parts.
Kevin Banitt (as in the footed shaft Banitt's) got this bad boy. I am sure a few of you know him or Terry. Doing it the hard way.
Beauty! Traditional makes it even more rewarding!
Shot this guy on October 30th in St. Croix County.
Don't post much here anymore but I thought I'd share this. Nov.1 at noon.
Nice buck, leftwing! 14 points?
me and my buddy tagged out on nov 1. awesome hunt not monsters but his first bow buck and my second.
This is obviously no giant but last night I almost HAD to rattle every fifteen minutes or so to cover the sound of clearing my throat. I have a cold (perhaps pneumonia) that is just kicking my butt. He responded so I shot him. Nice season...two arrows and two critters-buck and a bull moose. I'd be difficult to convince that any broadhead is better than a Magnus Stinger. Others are surely as good but I have confidence in these.
Nice buck there, congrats!
Nice buck LC. How's the action down there in Pierce? I haven't been to our land since Halloween. The deer were moving well then, but not really rutty. I will be back at it in my best rut funnel tomorrow for an all day sit since we finally are going to get a northerly wind again.
So much for that crown dip being lame.....blood covered!
New handle bloodcoveredcrowndip?
Pete-Started doing the crowndip thing many years ago so I could see the sign on the arrow better. It DOES work and can be redone many times. I have about a dozen carbon shafts to laquer this winter. It IS nice when you can change the color from white to red! Guess you can tell from my stuff that I trend to "old school"...Rut-The rut is in about the phase that you'd expect. Keep hearing guys talk about "lockdown". Not sure what that means (just remember what it meant when I worked at the Goodhue Co. Jail.)...It's not like they just go away or take a week off. Rattling is REALLY good when the big boys are looking! The cold (or whatever) I have is getting worse and I may have to go to the clinic. One thing I am looking for are some Super Carbon arrow shafts. Parker no longer sells them and I really like them. I shoot 55-70's that are 30 inches from the bottom of the nock to back of point. All I really want are some more shafts so fletched/unfletched...no matter. Thanks Guys.
Wow, lots of nice ones falling. Congrats to all of you and good luck to those that have not connected yet.
I will be headed to Kansas soon, I hope.
Nice bucks guys, keep it up!
Got this one this morning. Passed on him and his twin early in season. Things got slow for me the last 2 weeks and just couldn't pass on this oppertunity. He lays just as I found him preposed for a picture. I thought that was kind of cool.
November 6th has always been my favorite day for bowhunting whitetails in Wisconsin and yesterday reaffirmed it
Nice deer.
I did not have any bucks that would make book and after a two year drought and passing several small bucks I decided to get some venison.
This morning after only twenty minutes in stand a yearling buck came along the scent trail I laid down and I took him. nice quartering towards me shot took out both lungs and a bit of liver. He cooperated and ran towards the truck but it was still over a mile drag. No complaints though.
It has been a couple of rough years but the outlook is great. I have quite a few up and coming bucks on camera so next year should be great.
Friends this morning Marathon county
Tagged out this morning on the last day of my hunt until gun season. Second time I've seen him the past week and decided to take the shot.
congrats everyone nice pics
Last hunt of my vacation. Sunday evening and my season is over at 4:00pm. 11 points. 3 blade rage at 27 yards. Pass through and 70 yard run. Here is were he fell. Then the hard work began. Over 2 hours to get him to the truck.
Why did it cut off the top of my picture? Here is the famous "Back of the truck" picture.
Congrats on the nice deer. Can't get a game cart in where you hunt? Damn, been there done that but those backstraps will be that much tastier!
Shot this buck on Nov, 6th. while he was chasing a doe! Shot was about 22 steps. Bow was my Blacktail and I was using Magnus broadheads! Great Buck!
Sorry for the sideways picture!
You can rotate the pic. Look at your post and see where the edit image button is.
Gotta love November. Nice stuff.
But dang, my internet is slow here and takes forever to bring this thread up. Might be time to get a new one started.
"Congrats on the nice deer. Can't get a game cart in where you hunt?"
I dont think it would work where I hunt. Its almost a boat ride but I wear waders instead so a cart would sink.
Pierce Co. Nov.4th Blacktail, with Woodmen on hand tapered cedar
Last week evening hunt. 198#, 160", 32 yard shot. 65 yard recovery. Rattling grunting sequence on a scrape line.
New guy added to the thread. For a little background, I've been gun hunting for 30 years. I love being in the woods, but didn't get into bow hunting until 3 years ago. First morning out I fell in love with it, even though that first year I didn't see anything worth shooting. Last year was year 2 for me, first morning out in late Oct. had a giant 8pt sneak up on me 2 minutes after I got into stand. No other deer the rest of the year. SO, this year, year 3, again last Thursday afternoon, MASSIVE 12 pt, with an added 2 pt drop tine snuk up on me and winded me before I could even grab my bow off the hanger..... arrggghhh! Unfortunately my hunt was going to end with my work schedule on Sunday, so just for myself and for the good of my freezer, I made my first bow kill of my life! A small fork, which hindsight being 20/20 I probably won't do again, BUT the first bow kill is out of the way, and I will soon have a freezer full of meat! Good luck to everyone! Man I love being in stand!
Nice deer one and all! LC, "lung crap" for two-plus weeks here, but mine is finally close to the end (as long as I don't push it). Seem to get it every year about this time in recent years, usually starts when exhausted from not enough sleep and this time began with aches and sore throat day after pulling a half-all-niter working with not enough rest before or after. No trip to doc for me, just gulp the generic "loosen phlegm" stuff and lots of "healthy concoctions" and try to steal a short midday nap while kids are at school on the very worst days early on. But back in the day, the only way I could get rid of it was with a prescription for prednisone (not sure if that's how you spell it, but it's a steroid drug in pill form). Docs don't like to give it out much as I guess it's hard on some of your organs, but man, if there's a miracle drug that's it IMO. Feel better in 24 hours, feel great in 48, absolutely amazing at helping body shed the mucus. Just throwing it out there in case you require a trip to the doc.
That said, two and a half months coaching youth girls basketball ended with a tournament Saturday but tonight starts boys youth bb practices. I need to get out mornings and weekends from here on out, or it'll be like the last couple seasons — first starting with bow in December!
Shot November 6th at 6:40 am after a rattling sequence. Second buck that entered the cornfield and the "last" to leave. He then answered a grunt call and closed the distance. I stopped him at 35 yards - very fun!
Great job Les and BT, dandy bucks guys. Great job to all the recent successful hunters.
Harvested this 11 pointer on Saturday 11/7/15. Got through on lung and the aorta and made it 100 yards. Alarm didn't go off and I didn't wake up until 6:50am. Made it to my stand by 7:15am and he came walking up at 7:40. Quickest hunt of my life.
03fan, you woke up and made it to your stand in 25 minutes? It takes 25 minutes for my back and knees to loosen up when I wake up. Oh to be young again! Congrats on a great buck! Well done!
Shot this 9 pointer in Northern sawyer County-what a rush-- had to get it from the river after it died in it!
Rumor has it there will be a BIG 8 point showing up here in the next few days :)
Wednesday afternoon 11/10 I am out messing around in my gun season stand. Cleaning it out, washing windows, etc.
Then about 3pm, the farmer whom I lease the fields to, comes driving past in the combine, and begins to combine the cornfield that my gun stand is located on.
I decide to go back to camp to get my bow (just in case)
It's now 4:30, and I'm back in my stand. Still cleaning and organizing for the gun season. Suddenly, I hear a noise and see the Combine is only 75 yards west of my stand, and to the east, the farmer's dad is approaching with a pickup.
As I watch the truck get to within 150 yards, I sense something below me, and see a large doe and her button buck son emerge from the corn directly below my stand and start to feed.
Since my stand was not made for bow hunting, and I had to step out onto the "patio", and take aim from the top of the stairs. As I am doing this, the doe is looking left at the combine and right at the closing truck.
Turning broadside, I release just as she decides to move again, and strike her square in the liver. My green nock glows bright against the approaching darkness as she staggers thru the standing corn. After about 10 seconds, the noise stops, and the deer appears to go down.
After talking for about 10 minutes, with farmers, I circle around the field, and begin stalking into where I figure the doe dropped. About 10 yards before reaching that spot, I nearly STEP on the doe, who was laying down like a dog, including her head and neck along the ground, clearly trying to hide from me. She jumped and ran only 10 yards before laying down again.
Knowing she was wounded bad, and reaffirmed by her letting me get so close, I quickly backed out (it was headlight dark by this time) and went to have a quick dinner at the local restaurant.
Upon my return, she was stone dead in the exact spot I had left her previously.
I did not weigh her, but she was clearly a mature doe, and was noticeably larger and heavier than the yearling 8 pointer a guest had killed the day before.
Can't wait to pick up the venison next week.
Took this 8ptr shortly after 1:00 this afternoon. The wind was not as bad as yesterday but still pretty strong so I decided to hunt from the ground. I was sitting on a stump next to a tree downwind of a traditional rub/scrape line. This guy was rubbing up a tree 60 yards away. A couple of grunts brought him in about half way and I was able to get a pin on him. Oconto County
Sounds like a great hunt Kman CONGRATS!
Elkaddict's rumor has been confirmed ;^)
I went on on out of state hunt the second week of November and was lucky enough to arrow this guy. On November 12th I was hunting a creek crossing with several good scrapes in the area. I saw a doe go through about 60 yards away with this guy following. I didn't think I could call him away from the doe but figured I had nothing to lose. I gave a few grunts and he turned and looked my away. A couple more and he was on his way. He was like a bull elk coming to a bugle as he thrashed brush and trees on the way. When he got to within about 25 yards he bristled up, laid his ears back and started doing the sideways walk. It was really something to see. I shot him at 12 yards and I think he was so convinced that there was another buck there that he just made a few bounds and stood there looking around. I was able to get another arrow into him which sent him running for about 150 yards before he piled up. It was an awesome hunt!
Congrats Mike, great year, great buck. Awesome. I'm glad we didn't go back to MT :)
Wow! Heck of an 8 point! Congrats Mike!
Thanks guys! And Elkaddict, your buck is an absolute hog! It would have been nice to chase elk again but I'm glad I didn't miss deer season...
Oh, I killed both of my bucks with the same arrow too.
Congrats mike. As big as 8s get. See the Matthews gets the job done!!
Spent time helping a friend drag out this big 12 this morning.
Thanks Tack, yep the old MQ1 is still shooting through and burying them in the ground! ;^)
Great buck Mike. Excellent photos too.
Nice buck mike . Looks like I'm not the only one using the old xx75 cannons .
All very nice. It's been a busy fall chasing bears, getting kids and new hunters out. This is the first week of down time for me. Rain tonight, work tomorrow and getting ready for the family gun hunt.
Thanks for sharing the pictures and the stories. Much appreciated!!!
I harvested this buck on 11-7 after a great day of seeing several bucks cruising. He worked a scrape about 100 yards away, another about 50 yards away (both scrapes along the edge of a food plot) before stopping 5 yards from my stand. Lessons learned for me is that although I took out both lungs, the height of my stand at 20 ft when added to his proximity from my stand, resulted in such a steep angle that I had no exit hole. Although I heard him fall and recovered him easily, not a drop of blood was found from point of impact to him piled up. Will keep that scenario in mind in the future regarding steepness/angle of the shot. Large bodied buck that took a bit to drag to a logging road. Congrats to all the other hunters.
Lots of nice animals on this thread, congrats to everybody!
Tallgrass, actually they're not XX75's they're Full Metal Jackets, the camo ones that I don't think they make anymore.
Mike that is a brute. I love big 8's. Congrats on the double this year with a couple of dandies.
11/7 Alone browsing a picked cornfield in Lafayette Co. Wouldn't put weight on his right front leg. Hoof was swelled up 3x size of other.
Beautiful buck Huey! Congrats!
Some fine looking bucks taken this fall. Congrats on the deer!
Les- True giant there! I'd guess he has broke some tines off other deer in his days. Did you get rid of the flowing locks?
Mike- Great year!
I shot this one second week... 177# 9 point. He was on summer schedule yet. My boys helped on the drag while little sister manned the ATV.
Awesome to see all these kills! Great job everyone!
Thanks Lama and Duke!
Great photo with the kids Duke!
cheesehead mike What does he score. Don't get me wrong I love mega points, narly bucks too, but there is just something about big 8's I love more

Run n gun nice season what county you hunting in? If I may ask.
Great Shiras, Randy... Another good fall for you! Good eats ahead.
CD: Way to say after it during rifle season.
Pat- We'll hopefully line something up here after the New Year. Kids LOVE raptors!
" Run n gun nice season what county you hunting in? If I may ask. "
I hunt a few counties but hunt a lot in Price County out of Ogema but also near the twin cities (that's Kennan and Catawba if your a local)
First out of state hunt. Went on some public land in MO. Running and gunning with my buddy. Had a fun and tough hunt. I was lucky enough to tag out on Halloween evening. Not the biggest deer down there, but I couldn't pass him up. First time to a property and shooting a pope and young whitetail. I will take that any day.
Looks like a hog Bowtech! Congrats!!
