I hate to be the first one to say this, but. That deer screams high fence to me. If I'm wrong congrats to the hunter.

I finally noticed he had a body too. ;-) The body looks small in relation to the antlers. Not sure if he is small or just looks that way behind that mass of antler.
I'm guessing the hunter is probably looking for high profile sponsors before much gets posted about what equipment he used to scout it and shoot it.

It wasn't high fence. It was actually coming out of a state park in to a privately owned field. It sounds like maybe the family was taking turns hunting it. The beauty of the story is there was a huge 12 point typical which could be a new state record with it. I will not post the trail cam pictures because there will be several articles given time. But this is a sneak peak into how this deer found death.

Cecil the deer lured out of the park to be killed by a hunter. LOL

Can we dance around this exceptional growth of bone without slipping and falling , The celebration of bone has caused many issues . Or maybe we should treat this abnormal reality like we do people that are different , put them away somewhere where we dont have to see them and pay someone else to care for them ,

Where's the tag?

Almost looks like he shot him in the neck?

Does look like a neck shot, probably was quartering toward him at the time. A good shot if you are good enough to nail it.
Kylet, don't get too excited about the tag, plenty of room for it to be hidden behind those antlers. At the wolf trapping class last fall they urged us to make the tag very visible in any pictures that might be seen by the public only because they get lots of calls about wolfs not being tagged when in fact they were.

That makes two potential state record typical bucks on trail cams this year. Another one being in Buffalo Co in the same area where the Field and Stream buck was taken, and this one with no fork tines.
