Was out yesterday on state land and had two does come in at 7:45am . By 8:00am I shot both of them . To make a long story short , the first one I shot took off really slow and was hurting bad. The second one I shot was running off . She didnt have much of a blood trail and lost the blood after 60 yds . So I go back to the first one trail . It is now 2 hours after I shot at them . A big blood trail that Hellen Keller could follow . I go about 70 plus yds and I jump her out of it's bed so I backed out . Had lunch and came back out at 2:00pm . I just get to the steam bed and I find the second one I shot that had the poor blood trail . drag her back to the car and go looking for the first deer . we find the blood trail from where I jumped her and went another 80 yds right up to where she went into a huge swamp that's like a black hole that no light gets in . So thick there is no way of getting in to look around without sinking up to your waist in mud . We tried for over three hours trying to find a way in it . This is the third deer that I have lost in over 40 years of deer hunting . I will be out today looking for her , I know the will not be good . But I have to look again .

Was out today for 4 hours and still came up empty . She is still in that swamp , I can feel it . Got in alittle waysbut not as deep as I wanted . It is so thick in there they can hide all day and only come out at night . It's a fight just to go 10 yds , but it has high traffic in there . Fresh tracks , runs but no place to put a stand . Very small trees around the whole area .

I feel for you. I had a piece of land in old lyme that went 4 acres long but 60 yards wide. after the 60 was a bog or soupy mud swamp. if the deer hits swamp you would never get them out. as soon as you step into it you sink right up pass your knees to hips. sucks.

SWK has a good point. I ended up using a small pair of snow shoes (aluminum ones from Cabelas) to walk thru a swamp a few years back. I shot a nice buck and wasnt giving him up. He ran 50 yds into the swamp and the snow shoes helped immensely from tufts of grass and sticks. Try it guys

I second the snowshoes idea, but, don't bridge your footing. By that I mean, don't catch only the toe or heel on a high spot. Be sure the spot under your foot is somewhat even with toe, and or, heel.
By today, the birds should tell you where she is.
